Layla Lowell’s heart tightened, about to confront the intruder behind her, but in the split second she turned around, she smelled a familiar scent.

Her body went numb, and she abruptly pushed his hand away, coming face to face with Charles Carrington’s teasing gaze.

"Have you been waiting long?" he said.

Layla was stunned.

The two people behind her looked confused, especially the girl who was aware of the truth, who was beginning to doubt if Layla was really who she had summoned with her text.

The male student frowned, "Fishie, what’s going on here?"

Just as Layla was about to turn around, her chin was suddenly held in place, and then she was kissed.

Her brain erupted with a buzzing sound, and three seconds later, she pushed Charles Carrington away, glaring at him, her teeth gritted, "I’ll deal with you later."

With that, she turned around, walked straight up to the male student, smirked, then stomped on his foot.

"You scumbag, drop dead!"

She put some force into her foot, grinding it into the back of the boy’s foot.

Caught a glimpse of Alexa Willis’s pale face, Layla scoffed, "Alexa Willis, you knew he confessed to me yesterday, didn’t you?"

Alexa Willis looked down, her voice timid, "We were just here to watch a movie... and it’s not like anything happened, you were just kissed by a man."

"As you said, I was the passive one, it happened so fast, I had no choice. But what you did today is clearly messing with me."

The male student finally showed a guilty expression, "It was just for fun, everyone knows it, why are you taking it so seriously? Which college student doesn’t like to have fun?"

Layla rolled her eyes, "Get lost."

Alexa Willis seemed a bit afraid of her and, truly, of the man behind her. So she quickly took the boy and left.

Her hands pulling at the pockets of her thin jacket, Layla stared blankly ahead, her mood abysmal.

Seriously abysmal.

She took two steps forward, stepping into the man’s shadow.

Stopping, turning around, she glared at him, "Do you want me to hit you too?"

Charles Carrington cocked the corner of his mouth in a teasing smile, "Dumped again."

With that, he leaned over, chuckling at her, "Come to think of it, when we argued in the past you would curse me, but you never dared to hit me. Seeing that boy getting stomped on just now, I was quite happy."

Layla was fuming and decided to ignore him, stepping away without another word.

A lazy male voice came, "Your idol’s new movie is out, I have tickets."

The third floor is the cinema, and the corresponding floor advertisement at this moment just happens to feature Damien Hart’s new movie.

Watching a movie was originally on Layla’s plan for the day, but, it was supposed to be a movie date with Chloe Collins.

From a few meters away, she looked at him; her voice was cool and detached, "Forget it, I don’t have a bad habit of being friends with my ex."

With that, she turned around and walked away.

Charles Carrington took a step forward, matching her pace.

"Who said anything about being your friend?"

"In my world, going to a movie together is something friends do." Her stride quickened, she kept her gaze steady, looking straight ahead.

Before long, she had opened a car door and got in.

Charles Carrington was left standing by the road, he watched the car drive off into the distance, and smiled lightly, "Stubborn and kind of cute."

He returned to the café, continuing the discussion about the new case.

After a while, he was called twice.

"Mr. Carrington? Mr. Carrington?"

His attention gradually returned to his client sitting across the table.

"Continue talking."

They nodded and resumed where they left off.

Charles Carrington took a sip of his coffee, the pure flavor spreading over his tongue, slightly bitter.

The image of Layla’s stubborn face flashed before his eyes, and he couldn’t shake it.
