Chapter 1200: Chapter 1200: Sincerity Trampled Upon_1
Chapter 1200
Manie, who had rushed out of Cloudscape Enterprise, stopped crying after just a few minutes.
Afterwards, she regretted being so weak, letting a few words from Alexander Foster set her off.
She tried to talk to him about the past, but he flatly denied everything within just a few sentences.
Remembering his words, her eyes welled up with sour tears once again.
She had always regarded the incident when he saved her as a mythically beautiful and pure event, but he just dismissed it, saying that she merely reminded him of Chloe Collins at that time.
Because of Chloe Collins, he had pitied her, preferring to give up his initial mission just to save her.
Chloe Collins was thirteen when she met him, thirteen years old.
The thirteen-year-old Chloe Collins had already taken up residence in his heart.
This realization made her own persistence appear utterly foolish!
The thing she treasured the most was to him nothing more than dust.
The person she immensely despised was indirectly the one who saved her life.
Without Chloe Collins, Alexander wouldn’t have saved her, and without his intervention, she may well have lost something precious to bandits.
She returned to Capitol University in a daze, walking down the quiet paths.
The Master called her, saying that he had arranged accommodations for her at the Foster’s house and asked her when she would move in.
She stood at the crossing, holding her phone, utterly confused.
"Grandpa, I’m not moving in for now."
"What happened? Manie, are you thinking about giving up?"
Manie remained silent.
She looked at the streetlight in the distance, feeling that she was just like it, alone and isolated, but even more pitiful than it.
At least, no one was mocking it.
"Manie, in my heart, you are the ideal daughter-in-law."
"Grandpa, I... I need to think about it again."
She had her own pride.
The reason why she always pressed on was because she had kept hoping there was a place for her in Alexander’s heart. But now, all of that had collapsed and disappeared.
The Master’s voice showed signs of anxiety: "Manie, what happened? Did something happen?"
"Nothing, don’t worry. I’m living just fine at school. I will come and visit you often."
She quickly ended the call.
Afraid that in the heat of the moment, she might say something she doesn’t mean.
She needed time to think about all this.
A bottle of water was suddenly handed to her.
She looked up to see Raine Nolan.
Raine was carrying some food, all beautifully wrapped, enough for two people, but she had no company.
Manie didn’t take the water, instead turned and started to walk away.
Raine laughed: "Miss York, you’ve just had a good cry, haven’t you?"
Manie glanced at her: "Mind your own business."
"You misunderstood. I don’t want to meddle, I just wanted to tell you that if you want to get what’s yours, you must be relentless."
Manie laughed ironically, as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world. She looked back at her: "A failure like you, who gave you the confidence to teach others your failed theories? Convince me once you’ve succeeded, it’ll be more convincing."
She carried herself with a prideful air, and was just about to leave when she heard Raine indignantly retort, "I will succeed eventually! But you, you’ve encountered Chloe Collins, who is blessed by Buddha. You are destined to fail! Whether you believe it or not, once your experimental results come out, they’ll fail catastrophically if they are in any way connected to her!"
Speaking of Buddha, Manie naturally was reminded of the temple, and she thought of Chloe Collins and Alexander meeting in the temple.
