Chapter 84: Deep

Chapter 84: Deep

** Eli **

[ She swirled her tongue slowly around him, and the taste of him was even sharper than she remembered. Crisp like warm spices, mixed with a hint of musky sweetness. The same as his kiss.

The muscles on his thighs tensed, his breathing growing ragged. The rational part of her wondered if she should stop before this act really turned into something dangerous, but the other part of her, which was throbbing and aching and burning at the feel of him in her mouth, dismissed that option without a second thought. She wanted to unravel him. She wanted to hear that uncontrollable groan, see those eyes squeezed shut in ecstasy. And she wanted to taste the part of him that she had never tasted before.

So she took him in as deep as she could, all the way down to the back of her throat. ]

...

Eli set his phone on his desk and ran a hand down his face. Fuck. Who in the right state of their mind would think it’s a good idea to read Harper’s latest Chapter while still at work?

Apparently him, because he was an idiot. Because Harper had her updates scheduled to post at 9am, and he had no self control to not read it immediately once he was done with his morning meetings. Now that the Chapter had inevitably refreshed his memories of last Saturday — of her kneeling in front of him and doing those exact same things to him with her sweet mouth — he was going to spend the rest of the long day dealing with dire consequences caused by that image in his head.

The phone he just set down buzzed with an incoming call, breaking the heavy tension of unresolved need in the room. Eli glanced at the screen, surprised to find that the call was from ... Harper?

Um. What amazing timing.

Despite the amazing timing though, he wasted none of it answering. Clearing his throat and making sure that he sounded perfectly normal, he swiped the screen. "Aloha. How was news day?"

A light chuckle drifted out the other end of the phone. A familiar sound that he loved. "Hey, I had no idea you were still keeping so much news from me!" Harper exclaimed, her surprise nearly palpable. "I almost woke up to a brand new big boss, and you didn’t even give me a hint about it?"

Eli smiled silently.

Well, he did do his math ahead of time. With the amount of shares he bought, Miracles would still remain its own business entity, which he made very sure to be the case. He had learned enough from personal experience how tiresome it was to bend to someone else’s will, and he’d never put Harper or her whole company through the same ordeal.

He didn’t gloat about the noble cause to her though. Instead, he said casually, "Isn’t it unfortunate that my personal funds were only enough to cover half of your company’s worth? No new big boss for Miracles, I’m afraid. Only lots of new money."

That made Harper laugh. But then she quickly picked up the hidden information. "Personal funds? The buyout wasn’t from Sterling Trust’s budget?"

Well ... depending on how one would look at it. Eli actually had to sell a huge portion of his stocks at Sterling to be able to afford the deal, so in a sense, it was still the company’s money in a shareholder transfer sort of way ... But Harper didn’t need to know those irrelevant details, so he simply chuckled. "Surprise surprise. You got it, you’re currently talking to the only person from Sterling Trust who will join your boardroom."

There was a moment of silence as Harper processed the information. "Oh," she said in the end with awe in her voice. "Wow, congratulations! That’s a huge deal for you, isn’t it? I’m glad that you managed to reach such a big agreement with your father."

... Ugh.

Eli would’ve preferred to avoid that topic. The deal with the devil wasn’t something he was proud of, and now that the dinner he agreed to had already come and gone, he’d much prefer shutting up about it and pretending that no such thing ever happened. But since Harper had brought it up ... he couldn’t just blatantly lie to her.

As nonchalantly as he could, he gave it a mental shrug. "I made a bargain with him. At a price, in exchange for a hundred percent executive rights on this partnership. Not so much of an amicable agreement ... but in all honesty, I do enjoy being a dictator for once, so it was worth it. And I plan to make it count."

He paused, waiting for Harper’s reaction. He wasn’t sure if the slight anxiousness he was feeling was from fearing that she’d judge him for giving in to his father, or from fearing that she might ask for the details of exactly what kind of bargain he had made. He was relieved when she simply absorbed the information and replied with another "Oh".

"Well ... This is what you’ve always wanted, isn’t it?" she added after a little while. "A project of your own to go exactly the direction you like. No wonder all the news kept blowing everyone’s expectations out of the water!" Her tone turned more playful at that, as if intentionally leading away from the undesirable topic earlier. "Do tell, how else are you planning to ’make it count’?"

Ah, now that was a topic Eli could enjoy. His lips curved into a smile as his eyes shifted to the computer screen in front of him, landing on his to-do list of the week:

1. Hawaii summit extra room reservation (VIP suite next door to presidential)

2. Hawaii summit agenda planning (double pairing possible for weekend activities?)

3. Sign off on contract with VR consultants from Future Vision

4. Sign off on marketing campaign preparations for Harper’s project

5. "Harper’s project" needs a badass name

6. ...

"I’ll run out of surprises soon if I simply tell you everything, Harper," he drawled meaningfully, though his gaze hovered over one of the bullets. "How about you surprise me for a change this time? I’ve been looking for a codename for your project to use on my calendar. Any great ideas from the almighty creator herself?"

"... Codename?" Obviously that was something she had never thought about before. "Well, here in the office, we’ve all just been calling it ’the deep space project’."

"Lame." Eli tsked. "Your work deserves a cooler label than just that."

"But it’s accurate," Harper argued. "The game is about deep space explor—" Then she cut herself off as if an idea just came to her. "Hmmm ... How about ... Go Deep?" she continued in a low whisper.

Holy shit.

Eli couldn’t help but grin. Hell he loved this bold and wicked side of her. "I would very, very much like to use that name for all my Miracles related meetings from now on," he said, and he grinned again at the half chuckle, half groan on the other side of the phone. "Imagine everyone in the conference room looking at the meeting title and say, wow, that’s ... deep."

That earned him a full-on laughter, and oh how he loved that brightly ringing sound.
