His Mafia Prince -
Chapter 292: Epilogue
Chapter 292: Epilogue
{A Month Later...}
{JERICHO}
My home office is filled with the warmth and chaos of new parenthood. There are blankets, toys, and a crib set up in the second study, which has been converted into my own private office. Wesley and I toyed with the idea of moving into our own home, but it’s safer here in the family mansion, and we have built in babysitters.
I’ve been excelling at running the ports with Arlo. We’ve done so well as a team, and Sasha has decided we should keep it that way. With Arlo and I both handling things, and there’s time to still enjoy our family life.
It’s evening and I’m done for the day. Outside, I see Wesley pushing our son Ronan toward the play area Sasha had built. There are so many new babies being born, he figured it was a good investment. Sentimentality isn’t Sasha’s strong suit.
Watching Wesley, I’m reminded of when I lived at Miles’ home. That’s when I met him. I remember being captivated by him on sight. I smile and leave my study, eager to join my omega and our son outside.
As I approach Wesley, he’s unaware of my presence. He sits on a stone bench, singing softly to Ronan. I grin when I recognize the song as the octopuses and whale song he sang the first time we met.
When he finishes singing, he grins down at Ronan. "Do you like my song?"
I smirk. "Well, you’re no Beyonce, but the kid seems to enjoy your performance."
Wesley yelps and turns to face me. A huge grin splits his face. "Jericho, are you done with work?"
"Yep." I sit down beside him, taking Ronan from him. The infant coos and wiggles, and I kiss him on the forehead.
"Huh, you kiss the baby first?" Wesley fakes a scowl.
"I just wanted to get it out of the way so I could focus on you," I say softly, leaning in to kiss Wesley’s ripe mouth. "Mmmm. Nice." I pull back.
"I missed you today."
"Did you?" He cups my cheek. "We missed you, too."
"I have tomorrow off. I was thinking maybe we could take a day trip to the beach." I lean back against the bench. "What do you think?"
Wesley frowns. "I don’t have to wear a bathing suit, right?"
"Wes," I rumble. "Your body is a beautiful as ever."
"Sure, if you don’t mind stretch marks and a big belly."
I shake my head. "You have one stretch mark. One. And I think it’s adorable. You should love your little stretch mark. It’s a reminder that all the doctors were wrong about you being barren."
He hesitates. "I never thought of it like that. You’re right."
"I know." I run my gaze over his body. "And your stomach is as flat as ever. You’re too insecure for such a gorgeous omega."
"Shall I get a swelled head? Would you prefer that?" He sighs. "Then we could both be egomaniacs."
"I’m not an egomaniac. I just happen to know I’m a stud." I laugh when he punches my arm. "Ouch. You’re so mean."
He smiles. "Okay, lets go to the beach tomorrow. You’re right. I’m going to flaunt my one stretch mark brazenly."
"That’s better."
We sit in silence for a while listening to the sweet chirping of birds overhead in the oak trees. I’ve sat out here many times over the years, before it was a kids’ play area, but I never felt as content as I do now. That’s all because of Wesley.
"I spoke to Justin today," Wesley volunteers.
I ignore the faint nudge of possessiveness I feel at that news. I know Justin isn’t a threat to me. I know Wesley adores me. Still, it bugs me to think he even considered moving on with another alpha.
"Did you?" I make sure to keep my tone pleasant.
"Yes. He’s been promoted to Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology."
"Good for him." My smile is forced.
"He’s not happy about it, though." Wesley sighs. "He liked delivering babies. He’s thinking of stepping down."
I squint at him. "He wants to step down so he can keep delivering babies? Is that even allowed?"
Wesley laughs. "Well, I think so. He didn’t sound as cheerful as usual.
I really think he does miss delivering babies. He used to be so perky, but he sounded glum."
"Maybe that’s because he’s still dating that mystery omega he won’t tell you about."
"Maybe," Wesley murmurs. "I don’t know why he won’t tell me who the guy is. I’m sure I don’t know the omega. What are the odds I would?"
"A bazillion to one." I lift Ronan into the air, and I’m rewarded with a string of drool that lands on my cheek. "Eww. Why does he always drool on me?"
Wesley laughs and uses the burp cloth he has to wipe my cheek. "You need to wait for him to get older before that will be any fun. For either of you."
I sigh and pat the baby’s back. "Babies aren’t much fun at this age, are they?"
Wesley rests his head on my shoulder. "No. But they’re cute to look at."
"Yeah." I smile, staring down at our son. "He’s so damn pretty, just like you."
"Like you, you mean."
"Like both of us."
"There you go." He looks up at me under his lashes. "Would you want to have another?"
I gulp. "Right now?"
He laughs. "No, I mean ever?"
"Yes," I say right away. "I’ll have a hundred babies with you, Wes."
He winces. "I was thinking maybe just two more."
"When shall we start trying?"
He meets my gaze. "We don’t use protection. It could happen at any moment."
"True." I feel at peace about the whole thing. "The universe will let us know when it’s time."
"We have a very elaborate birth control method, the universe." He chuckles and takes my hand. "But I trust fate a hundred percent. After all, it brought you to me."
"Everything fell into place." I meet his gaze. "Once you stopped hiding."
He bites his bottom lip. "I guess you can’t hide from fate." He rests his head on my shoulder again.
The moment is so perfect. So quiet. So simple. We’re just happy. My eyes sting because this is all I ever wanted. I can’t think of anything else in life I’d need besides what I have right in this one perfect moment.
Wesley sighs, and I know he’s feeling exactly what I’m feeling.
Because that’s how it is when you’re two parts of a whole.
