His Mafia Prince -
Chapter 166: The Blooms Await
Chapter 166: The Blooms Await
(JERICHO)
My pants grow disturbingly tight as I watch him push the stroller around while he talks to the baby. I’m dying to go outside and be beside him, but then I know that doing that might spook him. I might come off as too aggressive. I already suspect that I might have been too pushy earlier. I get the idea that he might be the type to be seduced slowly. He might pill away if I come too strong too fast.
I notice one of the guards following him as I watch him. He calls him and Wesley stops pushing the stroller. I know the guard. He is an alpha called Reid. He strides towards Wesley, chest puffed out. Reid isn’t one of my favorite guards. My stomach churns as I watch him approach Wesley. He is coarse and bossy. Even though most of the outside guards have the same character, there’s something about Reid that doesn’t sit well with me. The outside guards don’t need to be refined with the workers who work inside the house.
Wesley’s body language tells me that he doesn’t feel tight about their little interaction. It makes me wonder what the guy wants to talk to Wesley about. He is guarded with me too, but this interaction of theirs doesn’t feel right. Part of me thinks that he is so uneasy with Reid that he wishes someone would just swoop in and save him. But surely, he was more than capable of discouraging me earlier. Can he not handle Reid?
When Reid leans closer to him, my hackles rise. Reid’s body posture is bullying. I take note as Wesley glances back at the house again.
By instinct, I leave my position near the window and head outside. I’m not exactly sure of what I’m going to say once I get to them. I feel so foolish for giving in to my instincts, but they are impossible to ignore. It is already obvious that Wesley doesn’t feel easy about his interaction with Reid, and I’m compelled to do something about it.
I notice how Wesley is relieved once I reach them. The fact that Wesley is relieved to see me warms something inside of me. He might have rejected me earlier, but now I see that he is relieved to have me by his side.
"Hi, Wesley. I was wondering if I could join you on your stroll around the garden?" I keep my tone light and airy then nod at Reid. "I’ve been stuck in the house all day."
Reid straightens and steps away from Wesley and the baby. "Oh hey, Mr Adonis...I was just admiring how big baby Reign has grown. Time flies you know..." I know that that is an outright lie, considering he has never once looked at the stroller. He was focusing on Wesley the whole time, but I’m glad that he is stepping away from him, which is all I wanted in the first place.
"Yeah, he is really grown." I smile grimly, hoping that he takes the hint and gets going.
Wesley steps closer to me, intuitively seeking my protection. Part of me is pleased when he does that. I don’t often see many omegas who turn to me for protection. It is always sex and it usually ends at that, well, for the most part. Wesley’s unspoken trust in me thrills me. I want to slip my arm around his waist, but I know better. I don’t want him to get uncomfortable.
Reid seems to be picking the cue and he’s moving away. "Enjoy your walk, sir." He then heads off to the gate where he belongs.
Wesley scowls at Reid’s retreating back then scowls. "Pervert."
"He was hitting on you?" I ask, showing my hands into the pockets of my suit jacket. "That’s what it looked like."
"Yes, he was." Wesley frowns at me. "How did you know? Were you watching me?"
Heat rushes to my face and I shrug. "I was just staring out the window to see if Miles and Arlo had arrived home yet. It was getting boring because I had nothing else to do.
"Oh,"
I can’t tell whether he believes me or not.
"You should be grateful that I was looking outside the window. You didn’t seem happy with the attention that Reid was giving you. I noticed how you stared back at the house hoping that someone would come to rescue you from him."
"I had told Marzia that I would be outside. She said that she would keep an eye on me, because this isn’t the first time that Reid is bothering me." He scowls. "I was hoping that she would come around and chase him away."
His response deflates me, but I do my best to hide it. "Well, you got me instead." I say brightly. "What was he telling you?" I ask, hoping to drive the conversation away from me and my window peeping.
"The usual stuff that alphas say. Honestly, rather not repeat it." He begins to turn the stroller as though he is heading to the house.
"What are you doing?" I ask.
"Going back to the house." He says. "That’s enough of Reid’s leering for a day."
"Well, it’s a beautiful day." I look up at the sky. "It would be a shame to be locked up in the house because of Reid. I was serious about taking a walk with you around the park." Maybe if I spend more time with him, I will get to work my seductive magic.
"Oh, I thought you just said that to get Reid off my back."
"Yes, and no. I wanted him to stop pestering you, but I also needed some sunshine and air. I’m sure you and baby Reign need it too." I say in a coaxing tone, even though I know that Wesley responding to my strong-arm tactics is a long shot.
"Well, I was craving some time outside." He glances to the direction where Reid disappeared to.
"You don’t have to worry about Reid, that I can assure you. He won’t dare make a move on you when I’m around." I incline my head toward him.
I notice an emotion that I can’t quite put in his eyes. Is it amusement? Gratitude? Wesley is a hard person to read. But then he responds. "Are you really sure about it though? I don’t want to keep imposing on you. I swear. I’m one competent Manny, really. I barely need rescuing."
"No, you are not imposing." I say. "Plus, I know that you are more than able to do your job without needing my help."
"But still, I seem to be taking up a lot of your time today."
"All I have is time, trust me." I laugh. "I never do anything that I don’t want to do."
"Yes, I suppose that is true." He murmurs as his gaze meets mine. I take note of how emotionless his voice is, and how it has a hint of disapproval to it.
Why would that be?
"What do you say?" I motion to the garden, "Shall we walk together? The blooms await."
His lips curve into the tiniest of smiles. "Why not, as you said, we could all use some fresh air." He heads into the garden. He is walking slightly ahead of me. I have a great view of his firm ass in his jeans. I try to not stare too closely to not creep him out. I like the sight in front of me. I am careful enough to not let him see me looking through. I don’t want him thinking that he traded one pervert alpha for another.
The air around us has a sweet floral scent to it. You’d never know that Miles has a green thumb when you look at him. However, with an omega and a new baby at hand, he doesn’t tend to the garden as much these days. In the past, he spent most of his days off here when he wasn’t out breaking his legs for Sasha. Very interesting twist for a high-ranking mobster.
Wesley doesn’t talk to me at first, but the silence between us is surprisingly comfortable. He looks easy as he pushes the stroller past the red and yellow roses. Neat gravel paths wind around the garden, inviting visitors to meander and admire. The sunlight filters through the leaves. The benches are discreetly placed, offering a spot to rest and soak in the serene ambience.
"Thanks for coming to save me." Wesley says, breaking the silence. "Reid has been a bother to me since I got here. He appears out of nowhere every single time that I go outside."
"Really?" I frown. "Then he should be moved to another detail if he is being such a pest. One away from the house? I can ask Miles if you want."
"No." he shakes his head. "Please don’t do that. I don’t want to draw any attention to myself. What I mean to say is that... you know...I can handle the job without causing any drama."
"How if Reid is bothering you enough that you don’t want to come outside?"
"I’m not afraid of handling him. It’s just that... It’s awkward. Usually, I can handle him. It’s just that today he was being too pushy. He wouldn’t take a no for an answer." He sighs frustratedly. "Alphas can be such a nuisance." He stops the stroller and adjusts the blanket to cover the sleeping baby then glances up at me. "Not you, of course."
He graces me with a warm smile and my insides twist weirdly. "Of course, not me." I smirk. "I’m a delight."
"I thought you’d be different, especially considering you are Sasha’s brother. But you’ve been kind to me twice now."
"It’s my pleasure, Wesley." I lean closer to him. "If you want more kindness from me, all you have to do is ask."
