Chapter 136: You Leave Me No Choice

Chapter 136: You Leave Me No Choice

(ARLO)

Not so long ago, all I could think of was revenge against Sasha. Now, my thirst for revenge has faded. I still however blame Sasha for what he did to my father. He taunted him and when he was finally done he made sure to leave him dead. But now, I’m beginning to see a different side of the story. Not that I am justifying Sasha killing my father. The punishment he gave him for attacking Tyler was too much.

Also, the respect I have for Miles has softened me towards Sasha a bit. Much as most people like to dismiss Miles’ loyalty to Sasha as some form of weakness, I don’t see him as so. Miles isn’t a yes man. He is a brave and intelligent alpha who has proven beyond doubt the lengths he would go to protect me. There has to be a reason he has served Sasha loyally for that long. He knows Sasha for who he is but still stands by him. He is my alpha. His obedience towards his boss has influenced me. The urge to kill Sasha is slowly fading.

Dalton must have noticed something in my expression because of the way he curls his lip. "Wait, did you change your mind and don’t want revenge anymore?" he gives me a look of pure disgust and sounds dubious. "How can you not want revenge against Sasha?"

"I still hate him."

"Is that it now? You just hate him, nothing more? Did you forget how angry you were at him a few weeks ago?"

"I haven’t forgotten anything, Dalton. What will I gain if I kill Sasha now? I won’t get any closure from that. At least, I understand that now. There’s nothing that I can do now to bring my father back. I don’t want to go against Sasha either. That’s a fight I’d very much like to avoid now."

"So, you mean to tell me that you are just going to marry Miles and live happily ever after while under the thumb of that fucker Sasha Adonis?"

"Happily ever after might be a long shot, but after that stunt you pulled, I’m never going to trust a traitor like you ever again," I mutter.

He sighs frustratedly. "Well, this was a fucking waste of my time." He pulls a knife out of his coat. "I risked my life coming here to convince you. I’m not going to do this a second time. Now, will you change your mind and come to work with me? This is your last chance."

"There’s no other answer other than the one I’ve given you." I spit as my gaze drops to the knife in his hand.

He purses. "I’m sorry, but if you can’t join me then I’m not going to let you go yammering my plans to Miles and Sasha."

I catch the grim look on his face and my heart races. "You are always a snake. That’s one thing about you that will never change." I drag myself toward the edge of the bed, unfortunately for me, the side rail is up and I can’t climb down. I can’t make a quick exit.

He glares at me with resentment in his eyes. "I offered you a way out and a means to get your revenge, but it is obvious that your loyalty doesn’t lie with me anymore. I can’t have you go telling Sasha and his second my plans. You must know that. I’m sure you would do the same if you were in my position. I know certainly that you wouldn’t let me ruin your plans either."

"You had already interfered with my plans. If you hadn’t attacked me, both Miles and Sasha would have been dead by now."

I notice movement by the doorway. Miles and Sasha enter the room. When they see Dalton standing over me with a knife, they both stop in their tracks. The sight of them relieves me a little, but I’m still worried because I know the odds of them stopping Dalton from stabbing me are unlikely. They are too far and Dalton will have stabbed me by the time they get close. I’m going to have to save myself. After all, all I can do is try.

The problem is I’m not at my best, and Dalton is far burlier compared to me. That gives him the advantage. Dalton glares at them frustratedly then lunges at me. He stabs the knife down and I roll over. It misses me and I manage to catch his wrists. We struggle for the next few seconds but he outdoes me. He is far stronger than me. His weight on my arm is too much and when it finally caves, he slices down. The knife misses me by an inch and the tip ends up buried beneath the mattress.

I grab the railing on the side of the bed and half throw myself down. I land on the ground like a bag of rice. Pain shoots through my arm when I land on my elbow. My abdomen is so painful it feels like it is being ripped open.

I hear Miles shout something, but I’m too busy trying to cram myself beneath the hospital bed. I can barely make out what he told me. My breathing is out of control as I lie on the cold floor tiles. Pain courses intensely all over my body. Dalton swears loudly and I see his shoes hover around the bed. The fucker just won’t give up. He is more determined than ever to kill me.

Dalton kneels on the foot of the bed, swiping the blade around wildly. I can see more shoes joining his. I hear Miles let free a string of cuss words as he battles him. Dalton is still not under control. Not if the knife slashing violently under the bed is anything to go by. The base of the base is shelled with thick plastic. Between the plastic and the wheels, he is unable to make direct contact with my body.

I stare at the little dots on the tiles that make the pattern of the floor and can’t help wondering if these are my last moments alive. It feels like an eternity has passed as they try to control when in reality, it might be thirty seconds.

At one point, it seems like they have overpowered. I peek out and see Miles holding Dalton’s head down on a headlock. Miles is breathing heavily. I notice that there is a slice down his dress shirt. The material has a crimson-red stain and it is spreading down. The fear that Miles might have been stabbed jolts through me. Miles doesn’t even seem fazed by it. He is totally focused on subduing my lunatic cousin. Sasha is letting Miles do the work as he watches him from a distance.

I slowly crawl from underneath the bed and a nursing staff comes into the room. She looks horrified as she watches Miles and Sasha drag up Dalton. Miles’ grip on Dalton’s hair tightens and he drops the knife. He kicks it away.

"What the hell is going on in here?" The young nurse yells as she moves to kneel beside me. She shoots a scowling glance at Sasha and Miles. "Valerie, call security. Now!
