Chapter 1618: Overshadow

Iris Long had always been straightforward. She disliked wasting time on unimportant matters. Her manager, Tang Yiyi, was also aware of this so she didn’t talk about unnecessary topics.

The two discussed her schedule for the next week and made necessary changes as needed.

"You’re going to be very busy in the next few days, Xiulan," Tang Yiyi said. "Make sure to have enough rest especially when you’re in the Philippines. I heard it’s extremely hot there. Also, be careful of what you eat. Don’t get food poisoning. Listen to Dom about the do’s and don’t’s of the country."

"Okay, Elder Sis Yiyi."

Tang Yiyi sighed. "I would love to accompany you, but I’m negotiating a major movie contract for Meixing, so I can’t really get away right now."

"Don’t worry about it. Dom will be there to make sure that everything runs on schedule. My husband will also follow me as soon as he finishes his work."

Tang Yiyi nodded. "Also, we’ve secured the screenwriter for the film adaption of ’Queen of the Shadows’. She’s our first choice. The first negotiation fell through, but she contacted us later to re-negotiate. However, we need to wait until she finishes her current work commitment with another project."

Jin Chonglin and Lin Dong stopped arguing when they heard them talking about ’Queen of the Shadows’. The film adaptation of Princess Porkchop’s best-selling webtoon was very important to them because it would be LXC Studio’s first major film production project.

Both Iris Long and Jin Chonglin had signed up as executive producers. They were investing their own personal funds in addition to LXC Studio’s company investment as the production house.

"We’ve secured most of the key production staff," Lin Dong said. "Next, we’ll have to start thinking about the cast. Since Princess Porkchop insists on Iris starring as the female lead, then we’ll have to respect her choice. How’s your acting lessons going so far?"

Iris pursed her lips. She had been squeezing some acting lessons in between her already-packed schedule.

If it was a singing showdown, she would be 150% confident in her own abilities.

"My acting lessons are fine," Iris finally replied to Lin Dong. "I’m still not satisfied, though. I originally planned on taking my acting coach to the Philippines with me but she has prior engagements. I heard that Dom recruited a local acting coach in the Philippines for me instead. Let’s see how it goes."

Jin Chonglin drank his coconut water. Unfortunately for him, Lin Dong had already confiscated his bag of pork rinds.

"How come Yang Mei wants you to be the female lead while she doesn’t want me to be the male lead?!" he grumbled. "I think I’m perfect as the male lead!"

"Not at all," Iris said without any hesitation. "The male lead in the story is described as not very handsome but still oddly charismatic with his honest principles, and of course, his masculine energy. Meaning, his body has big, well-defined muscles. If you claim to be ’not very handsome’, nobody would believe you. And please take a look at yourself in the mirror, where do you see any big, well-defined muscles in your body? Your waist is thinner than Chen Fei’s."

Lin Dong: "Pft!"

Tang Yiyi covered her face with a folder. Her shoulders shook as she tried her damn best to restrain her laughter.

Jin Chonglin’s nostrils flared. He couldn’t understand why he liked this insufferable woman before and almost had himself killed by his older brother for desiring the same woman.

"Long Xiulan, if you weren’t my sister-in-law, I would have fought with you already!"

Iris wasn’t the least bit fazed by his anger.

This angered Jin Chonglin even more.

"Come and look at my muscles! My abs! Which part of me is thinner than my wife?!"

He was about to pull his shirt up to expose his abs but Lin Dong was faster and prevented him from doing so.

"Calm down, Chonglin," Lin Dong said, glaring at him. "What are you trying to do? Do you want your older brother to murder you? Dare to show his wife your naked waist?!"

"Hmph!" Jin Chonglin turned his head away, but thankfully, he still obeyed his manager and didn’t attempt to pull his shirt up anymore.

Iris wasn’t afraid of her brother-in-law at all. His tantrums reminded her of her eldest twin son Little Mochi’s tantrums. All bark but no bite. It was actually quite cute.

Lin Dong tried to reason with Jin Chonglin. "The title of the project is called ’Queen of the Shadows’, not ’King of the Shadows’. The focus should be on the female lead which could possibly be Iris if her acting improves by the time filming starts. If you star as the male lead, you’ll most definitely overshadow the female lead. And that’s not our purpose for investing in this project at all."

After hearing what he said, both Iris and Tang Yiyi glared at him.

"What do you mean by that, Manager Lin?" Tang Yiyi demanded. "Are you saying that Jin Chonglin will definitely overshadow our Iris?!"

Iris didn’t say anything. She only crossed her arms over her chest and stared at Lin Dong with cold eyes.

Lin Dong immediately regretted his words. He only meant to comfort Jin Chonglin and calm him down. He completely forgot that his words might offend Iris Long.

Sweat beaded on his forehead as his brain worked overdrive to make an excuse that wouldn’t offend either side.
