Chapter 983: Chapter 45 Conversation in Sakura Pub
"There’s one key issue, senior sister,"
Xiao Xiao interrupted the Witch’s lecture, and Doctor adjusted her glasses, looking seriously at Korma: "The magic power you plan to ’transfer,’ to whom does it belong, or which ’His Highness’ exactly?"
The term ’existences’ often refers to individuals that are indescribable, but can be looked up to, such as the Giant Beasts roaming the Starry Sky, the Titans, and beings like Cthulhu that lurk in the heart of the Dark World.
’His Highness’ is mostly used as a title of respect for Gods.
Of course, in Xiao Xiao’s view, either category seemed much too powerful for Korma’s team—as far as he could see, the entire team only had Korma, a formal Wizard, and she hadn’t even graduated from school yet. The rest of the club’s members were mostly Tricksters with little Magic Power.
Trying to leverage the Starry Sky above with so little strength seemed rather overambitious.
But only those ’high-dimensional’ beings could easily transfer magic power to ’low-dimensional’ Tricksters to achieve the purpose Korma anticipated.
As for using magic power from other Wizards, Magical Creatures, or beings of the same dimension, efficiency would be too low, leading to pyrrhic results. There had been Wizards who tried to collect magic power from other Wizards for transformation, but the outcomes were disappointing. Instead, it caused their own Mana to become contaminated, ultimately leading to a loss of sanity and turning them into lunatics.
Following the summaries of the Big Wizard Klausius from Germania and Wizard Kelvin from Great Britain, this became the second theorem of magic power studies: magic power cannot spontaneously transfer from low-dimensional to high-dimensional individuals; it’s not possible to extract magic power from a single source and fully convert it into useful effects without producing other impacts.
From another perspective, all of those high-dimensional entities possess immense Magic Power, making it difficult for Ordinary Wizards to obtain power from them—unless they sign a stringent contract that mortgages their Soul to the likes of Lucifer, Mephisto, or Diabolo, whereby They willingly offer their power.
This natural contradiction is one of the reasons why transformation magic hasn’t become widely popular.
"This matter is a trade secret and cannot be disclosed," Korma blinked and steadfastly refused Xiao Xiao’s further probing; however, as compensation, she still gave them a hint:
"I can only tell you that the individuals with high-dimensional magic power exist not only above our heads, in the Starry Sky, but also beneath our feet on this island... such as Their offspring."
At the mention of offspring, the image of a huge green frog squatting at the river bend sprang into Zheng Qing’s mind. Xiao Xiao and Xin also glanced at Zheng Qing with subtle looks in their eyes.
Earlier that day, the young scholarship student had blown up the progeny of Satoguya On the Silent River. The news hadn’t spread yet. In that case, Korma’s plan might not be as impossible as it seemed.
Even so, Zheng Qing still found the Witch’s experiment too risky.
"It’s still too dangerous... there are better ways to seek death," the young scholarship student shook his head, trying to persuade her again, "don’t you want to seek help from a Professor or another senior Mage?"
"No money, can’t afford it, don’t trust them," Korma decisively shook her head three times.
Zheng Qing was at a loss for words.
Chewing on her pencil, the Witch said to Zheng Qing in a comforting tone, "Actually, there’s nothing to worry about... Before birth, after death, these two states are essentially the same. If you are not afraid of yourself before birth, why fear yourself after death?"
Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing showed a wry smile.
He had intended to persuade the witch to stop, but unexpectedly, she convinced him instead.
"You’re the employer, so what you say goes," grumbled the young cost student, finally saying no more.
...
...
When Zheng Qing and his two companions began to crouch on the table, helping the employer at Gini Cottage construct Arrays, draw Talismans, and concoct potions, there was an uninvited guest quietly drinking below them—in the Sakura Pub on the first floor with its doors and windows tightly shut. To be precise, she was arranging and combining Tarot Cards on the spacious table as she drank.
The pub had not yet opened for business, and only her solitary figure was in the large room.
Until the sound of footsteps tiptoeing down the staircase came around the corner.
"Be a little quieter when walking," Elena complained without turning her head, "You’re disrupting my concentration while I’m divining."
"You should be using a more precise divination method, such as trend calculation," Korma replied offhandedly, "rather than sticking to the Gypsy method of card-reading, which is outdated."
Elena did not engage with Korma’s comment but changed the subject instead.
"If you don’t want to tell them the truth, you could have just refused to answer. Why tell a lie?" she put down the Tarot Cards in her hands, looked up at Korma, and teased, "I don’t ever recall having to catch those misbegotten monsters to charge your magic circle with energy."
By her side, a Speaker Flower growing in a brown flowerpot nodded appropriately, as if agreeing with the witch’s remark.
"Leading them in the wrong direction is always better than them stumbling upon the right one by mistake," Korma said lightheartedly as she descended the stairs, snapped her fingers, and a bottle along with a glass staggered in front of her, automatically pouring half a cup.
Then Korma picked up two ice cubes and tossed them in: "I certainly don’t want to see some unrelated figures outside the magic circle when the plan is in action."
"They’ve helped you refine your plan, they’re not unrelated," Elena picked up a card, frowned slightly, then placed it back where it had been, "When do you plan to make your move?"
"No rush, no rush... Right now, Lei Zhe and Augustus will be stepping down next semester. With the transition of power, formerly suppressed conflicts will suddenly erupt—societies and organizations, ideologies and thoughts, ancient feuds and clan hatred—by that time, no one will care about our little commotion."
"Which means," Elena summarized, "in two more months, we will have ample time and space to carry out your task."
"It’s your opportunity as well," Korma added, "As for now... the last pressure point of the Silent River’s returning tide is within reach, and monsters starved through the winter will set their sights on the prosperous First University. But the school is allocating the Professor responsible for suppressing the forest to that place at this critical moment. It can be foreseen that Beta Town will become the first line of sacrifice... as always."
"After all, it isn’t the first time this place has been destroyed by the dark tide," Elena comforted, "Don’t worry too much."
"Worry?" Korma revealed an exaggerated smile, "Why would I worry? I just don’t want to take the blame for those magical creatures in the forest... So, our plan can wait to start in two months."
