Chapter 894: Chapter 242: Fleeing in Panic
Thomas wasn’t wrong.
While the Assistant Team and the Absolution Hunting Team were trapped in a ’sandbox’ world, in the Silent Forest, four black figures were scurrying away head in hands, dodging spells that were occasionally shot from mid-air.
The reason for putting ’head in hands’ in quotes is because it’s not simply an adjective, but a magic spell. Just like ’Peach and tender’, ’head in hands’ is an ancient magic used for strategic retreat.
The limitation of this spell, however, is significant—it can only be fully executed by creatures with Mouse Clan bloodlines.
And right now, among those four shadows, there was precisely such a being.
"To the left, 15 degrees to the left, quarter frequency, advance ninety-one steps... Watch out, there’s a node of the Protection Array up ahead, make sure to dodge!"
"Turn! Turn! Three degrees to the right! That wench has dropped another series of Thunder Curses! Close the gap, left two drags to one right, make a small arc, don’t get struck by lightning!"
"Change frequency! Change frequency! Three-quarters frequency, rapid advance one hundred twenty-five steps, then return to original frequency!"
"Damn it, the shell the school has put up outside is really infuriating!"
The leading plump rat, round and fat, was rapidly directing the team to evade the ’pursuit and kill’ of the First University’s Guardian Formation, all the while mumbling curses under its breath.
They finally scurried into a small clearing and stopped.
"Take a rest!" the fat mouse yelled, halting its steps: "This is a ’safe zone’ I set up earlier. Although it’s not large and the defense is weak, it can at least buy us some time... let us catch our breath."
While speaking, the fat rat wrapped itself in its thick black cloak and rolled on the snow. When it stood up again, its body had expanded several times over, and its standard mouse appearance had faded significantly, now looking more like a wizard with a pointed mouth and monkey cheeks.
Of course, this ’wizard’ still had a few long mouse whiskers around his mouth and was dragging a long rat tail behind him.
"Is this Buddha’s belly bamboo?" A tall, thin figure turned his back to the ’Rat Wizard’, bent over, and looked at the boundary of the ’safe zone’ with great interest, asking, "If I’m not mistaken, this kind of bamboo only thrives in warm, humid places... and they’re not resistant to the cold, right?"
"Good eye!" The Rat Wizard was evidently pleased that someone noticed this detail and immediately began to explain with gusto: "This is the newest variety developed by our clan, based on Buddha’s belly bamboo, a new bamboo strain that is cold-resistant and dry-resistant... The bamboo naturally grows hidden breath, and insulates against fire and thunder, making it the perfect ’fence’!"
"Huh... that does sound impressive." The tall and thin wizard nodded approvingly, stood up, turned to the Rat Wizard, and suggested, "Well then, for twenty jade coins, I can place these bamboos in the Wandering Bar’s wholesale market... If you’re willing to sign a guaranteed sales contract, Wandering Bar might even waive the handling fee for you!"
The speaker, the tall and thin wizard, was the owner of the Wandering Bar, the famous Wandering Wizard of Beta Town.
Upon hearing the Wandering Wizard’s offer, the Rat Wizard flew into a rage.
"Damn it!" it exclaimed: "That’s robbery! If I sell these bamboos to First University, just the patent fees alone would be lucrative each year! And you still expect me to pay... That’s absolutely ridiculous!"
"Only if the First University is willing to buy your bamboo." The Wandering Wizard shrugged his shoulders, a familiar sly smile on his face, and then spoke in his usual slick tone: "As far as I know, the First University has implemented strict defenses against the Underground Rat Clan, treating you all even more harshly than those stinky Fishmen from Lin Zhong Lake... If it wasn’t for the university being short-staffed this year, you’d probably need another hundred years before you could appear in the campus openly."
"Let alone the fact that we are currently under attack from the First University’s Protect Legal Formation. If we really get caught by that Formation, not to mention these few bamboos, the little kingdom you built underneath the First University might collapse in an instant."
This was no exaggeration.
The Rat Wizard—or rather the Rat Immortal—became dejected again upon hearing the analysis of the Wandering Wizard.
But soon, it lifted its head again, furiously looking toward another companion.
"Milton! You haven’t explained what the hell is going on here!" Its tail swung violently, leaving a deep mark in the snow, then with a flash, it appeared in front of Duke Milton: "Why didn’t the Moon Council send even a single Big Wizard! Why did Su Shijun receive the blessing of First University’s Guardian Formation! Are you planning to play both sides?"
"Su Shijun is Su Shijun, Karen is Karen, don’t confuse them. The Moon Council has never been united," Duke Milton snorted, his face gloomy, and then added in a mocking tone: "As for playing both sides... Which seat in the council isn’t hedging their bets, even on two, three, or four fronts? Take your Mouse Clan, for example, if I am not mistaken, you’re trying to get official placement at the First University while simultaneously submitting membership reviews to the Moon Council. Not to mention today’s operation."
While true, these words were not meant to be spoken in public.
The Rat Immortal’s eyes darkened upon hearing this, and its chubby face puffed up even more.
"As for why the Moon Council sent me today... maybe the council thought my participation was sufficient for today’s operation," although Duke Milton wasn’t a Big Wizard, he possessed capabilities comparable to many Big Wizards, which gave him confidence as he spoke: "As long as the goal is achieved, whether one is a Big Wizard or not, what does it matter?"
"It matters a great deal." The Wandering Wizard interrupted Duke Milton, speaking in a rare assertive tone: "Today’s operation isn’t just any operation... it’s critical for whether our Dark Council can truly rise, surpass the Moon Council, and genuinely stand equal to the First University... There’s no room for error."
Duke Milton squinted his eyes, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with the Wandering Wizard’s words.
The Wandering Wizard seemed to realize he might have spoken too firmly for an Upper House Member of the Moon Council, or rather a Clan Leader of the vampires,
But he had no intention of making amends.
