Chapter 757: Chapter 105: Golden Feather Pen_1
Ever since his date with the Gypsy Witch was interrupted by the school’s ’Lake Heart Island White Tower Incident,’ Zheng Qing had been concerned about that island in Lin Zhong Lake and the white tower on the island.
Although the school had arranged for him, Elena, and a certain cobra to sign a rigorously-worded silence contract, it did not stop Zheng Qing from researching the topic on his own in the library – unfortunately, or unsurprisingly, while the library was teeming with resources, there was very scant information regarding that particular island.
For a week straight, Zheng Qing dragged several Absolution team members to the library, poring over shelves of books without much success. Besides finding some information about the island in books on school architecture, there was no other yield.
Even that piece of information was extremely brief, merely noting ’...there is an island in the heart of the lake, on which stands a seven-story white tower, adorned with ornate eaves and copper bells, symbolizing caution to the world.’
In response to Zheng Qing’s question, Xiao Xiao, who was deeply engrossed in the materials, responded quietly, "Zone F has been thoroughly examined, confirmed there’s no information regarding Lake Heart Island."
The young scholarship student let out a sigh, stretched his arm, yawned, and felt desolation deep within.
Seemingly feeling the desolation within the young scholar, the Fat Man Xin, who was leaning back in his chair with a book over his face, suddenly snatched up the book, glanced out from the corner of his eye, and said in a listless tone, "So what if we did find something? It would merely satisfy your curiosity. You are not the first student to show interest in the white tower on the island, nor will you be the last."
"If there was genuinely any information about the white tower in the library, the place wouldn’t be considered a ’forbidden zone’."
The rational argument was persuasive - but it was not what Zheng Qing wanted to hear.
"Stay positive," the young scholarship student wriggled his fingers, making the sugar soldier among the pile of books on the table ride the candy horse, whirl a toothpick, and charge towards the Fat Man, "I rewarded you with a grand weekend treat at the Double Tang Note so you could help me find information, not so you could sleep in the library!"
"Moreover, if we could find something, wouldn’t that give you material for your next newspaper’s sensation column? This is a win-win situation, why can’t you be more proactive?"
"Win-win? Huh... even if we did find something, I doubt whether the bigwigs at the campus newspaper’s editorial office would allow me to publish that information." Fat Man Xin smiled sarcastically, his voice filled with bored knowledge of everything, "Comparatively, I think the dressed-up mice are more likely to arouse interest. Last week, the sensation column only published a small piece about the dressed-up mice, and received about a hundred paper cranes from wizards who claimed to have seen those mice!"
"This is the highest response rate in several months."
"The editor has spoken. If I can find that mouse and interview it, he would help me fill out the application for this year’s ’Golden Feather Pen’ selection... In previous years, only third-year veterans had the opportunity to participate in the ’Golden Feather Pen’ selection!"
"Golden Feather Pen?" Zheng Qing tilted his head, showing some interest, "What is that?"
"The ’Beta Town Post,’ ’Magic Wand,’ and other renowned media jointly participate in it. It’s a highly esteemed selection for prominent media personnel and excellent annual news manuscripts." Xiao Xiao immediately dropped his research materials, lifted his head and explained, "The prestigious ’Arcana’ list is introduced each year through this selection activity... according to past experience, any student who gets the ’Golden Feather Pen,’ will have no trouble entering any newspaper, magazine, or other media after graduation. Even if they fail to graduate."
"Oh, I see!" Zheng Qing was enlightened, having a more direct understanding of the ’Golden Feather Pen.’ Meanwhile, he also began to contemplate whether he should stretch his legs outside for a change of pace, "How about the hunting team goes out for practice tomorrow night? We can try to find that dressed-up mouse again... If no one objects, I’ll start filling out the application now. If all goes well, we should receive the workforce committee’s feedback letter before tomorrow’s alchemy class."
Today is already the fourth day of the fifteenth week, tomorrow is Friday. The young scholarship student, who has been hovering between the library and the classroom for four straight days, suddenly felt a strong impulse to abandon everything and chase after the dressed-up mouse after hearing what Fat Man Xin just muttered.
Perhaps sensing his enthusiasm, the Fat Man sitting diagonally across couldn’t help but sit upright, lazily propping himself up before looking at his team leader suspiciously.
"What do you want to do...Just to be clear, I’m not as wealthy as you. I can only provide one chicken drumstick per person." The fat man began to babble, counting on his fingers, "One for each person, five for five people. Plus the substitutes and Lin Guo, I need to prepare ten drumsticks..."
"Nobody cares about your drumsticks!" Zheng Qing waved his hand impatiently, signaling for the Fat Man to stop his stingy antics, and snorted, "I just feel we’ve been stuck in the library for too long. Going out might change our mood and result in unexpected gains."
"Provided that Assistant Hilda doesn’t arrange a high-risk duel subject for tomorrow afternoon’s practice class." Xiao Xiao raised his writing brush, voicing his opinion.
Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing’s face fell.
Right, there is also a practical class tomorrow afternoon- this course mainly trains young wizards’ command over spells, talismans, and other magic skills during practice. It’s the only class that allows students to pull out their law books and freely cast curses. It’s also known as the course with the highest accident rate amongst all subjects at the first university.
"Aha! Caught you guys!" A crisp voice abruptly sounded behind the young wizards, startling them.
Turning around, they saw Li Meng standing at the corner of the bookshelf, wearing a smug look on her face.
"I just heard you guys saying that you plan to do something risky during Teacher Hilda’s class! If you want me to keep it a secret, hmmm..." The little witch’s words left the wizards at a loss for words.
Scratching his head, Zheng Qing recalled for a moment, but couldn’t remember when his group had mentioned causing trouble during Hilda’s class. After all, they had always been exemplary students in her class and had a good relationship with the young assistant with pins on her face.
But before they could explain, another slightly angry voice came from behind Li Meng, "Meng Meng!"
