Chapter 716: Chapter 64 Li Meng’s Business_1
"Help me catch mice!"
"One mouse, one dried fish! I know you can understand me~! How about it, will you do it?!"
"If a cat doesn’t catch mice, what’s the difference between it and this salted fish?"
Underneath the tree, a little witch wearing tiny leather shoes, holding a stuffed teddy bear, squatted on the ground, persuading the few bold cats in front of her, trying to complete her task through a ’hiring’ method.
Zheng Qing did not come down from the tree but was still lying on a branch, leisurely watching the interaction between the little witch and the cats.
The ones that dared to come down from the tree were relatively larger cats, such as a Norwegian Forest cat among them. Its fur was fluffy, making its ears seem much smaller. Maybe this affected its hearing, so this cat was particularly close to the little witch--of course, it’s more likely this big cat was drooling over the dried fish in the little witch’s hand.
"One mouse, one dried fish!" Li Meng reached out and placed the teddy bear in front of her, stopping the forest cat from getting closer, and emphasized in a louder voice: "No mice, no dried fish, got it~~"
She habitually dragged out the last word, reciting it as if singing a song.
However, the cats in front of her didn’t understand the beauty of vocal music at all. All the cats were fixedly staring at the delicious dried fish, their heads swaying left and right, up and down with the little witch’s swinging arm.
"Damn pointy-eared fur thief! Take your claws off my face!!"
Li Meng’s teddy bear, struggling in her hands, glared its glass eyes, roared at the forest cat in front of it: "You’re too close, do you have a mouse? You don’t even have a mouse, and you dare to call yourself a cat? Damned idiot, get lost!"
The forest cat, originally attracted by the dried fish, finally shifted its attention to the teddy bear at the bear’s screaming--perhaps it wanted to get even closer, so it had just playfully tapped the teddy bear in front of it with its paw.
However, it was clear, this teddy bear was not a good-tempered toy.
Up in the tree, Zheng Qing, with hands crossed on his chest, lazily watched the small confrontation below. In his memory, this forest cat was not a good-tempered chap; not too long ago, a Maine Coon cat trying to climb its tree was sent sprawling on the ground by this forest cat’s slaps without any reason.
According to Zheng Qing’s judgement, this forest cat could be considered the leader among these several trees of fifty-odd cats—it was only natural for it to possession a bit of a temper.
So, he figured Li Meng’s teddy bear was in for a tough time.
He had never had a good impression of that teddy bear--he was also very curious. Even if it was a toy of two witches, how could this teddy bear have such a bad temper? Not to mention Jiang Yu, Li Meng was a bit temperamental, but she rarely spat out swear words. How on earth did that teddy bear learn all those jumbled, vulgar expressions?
Or is it that when a toy becomes sentient through alchemy, it naturally picks up this bad habit? If this rule was laid down by a god, then it’s quite a twisted god.
Just as he was pondering these burning non-issues, down below, there was a new development.
The giant forest cat, after being verbally jabbed by the teddy bear, immediately gave up on the dried fish in the witch’s hand and transferred its focus onto the teddy bear. With narrowed eyes, it watched the teddy bear intently, emitting threatening growls from its throat and its fur puffing up as though its size increased in an instant.
The teddy bear seemed to be frightened by the forest cat’s threat and suddenly went silent. Its glass bead eyes were spinning around, fuzzy limbs flapping around, as if trying to avoid facing the big cat. However, since it was held mid-air by Li Meng, its little short legs were a foot off the ground. So, no matter how much it flapped its limbs, it was just struggling in place.
"Li Neng, cut it out!!" Li Meng shook her arm impatiently as if she wanted to throw the teddy bear on the ground. But after a glance at the dirty, slippery ground, she gave up the idea.
"If you continue to be unruly, when we get back home, I’ll hang you on the ceiling fan!" The little witch threatened. Then she turned her head and looked at an Exotic Shorthair cat squatting beside her: "Uh, the mouse you caught seems quite small..."
This was a ginger Exotic Shorthair cat, fluffy and thick-furred, with a flat face and drooping eyes. Its drooping mouth corners seemed to display a sense of constant grievance.
At the moment, the shorthair cat was calmly sitting in front of Li Meng, holding a small mouse about an inch long in its mouth.
"Your mouse is too small. It seems to have just grown its fur." The little witch bit her lip, seemingly indecisive. But when she looked around, apart from this Exotic Shorthair, there was no other cat answering her call for hire.
"Meow~" The shorthair cat gave a weak meow, becoming the final straw that broke the camel’s back in this negotiation.
"Enough already! Stop acting so pitiful, as though I’m bullying you!" Li Meng sighed deeply: "Speaking of which, Old Yao just said to catch a certain number of mice... He never specified the size. If I catch a pair of mice, male and female, and let them breed, that should also quickly meet his requirement right..."
In the tree, the originally bored black cat suddenly perked up its ears. Lowering its head, it complexly gazed at the little witch.
Who said this kid was dumb! Crafty and clever - but wait, is rearing mice even viable? The black cat became lost in thought.
Under the tree, Li Meng eventually decided to strike a deal with the shorthair cat.
"Since you’re the first one who brought a mouse, I must give you a discount!" Saying this, the little witch generously extended her hand, holding out a small dried fish to the shorthair cat: "Here! It’s yours!"
"Meow." The shorthair cat called softly, even raising its two front paws in a bow, then hopped away towards the tree with the small fish. It seemed to want to enjoy the fish at its leisure up in the tree.
"Slap!"
A huge, furry paw reached out obliquely, blocking the shorthair cat’s path.
The forest cat tilted its head and flicked its tail, wordless but with its intentions very clear in its gaze.
"Stop, this is a robbery!"
The scared shorthair cat ’yowled’, dropped the small fish from its claws, and scurried back up the tree. Not even caring about the muddy paws, all it did was tremble amongst the tree branches.
The forest cat glided step by step towards the small fish.
"Stop! You bully of a cat! Robbing in broad daylight?!" Li Meng sprang up from the ground, hands on the waist, and threw the teddy bear in hand towards the forest cat while yelling: "Li Neng, charge! Whack it!"
Once Li Meng threw the teddy bear not far from the forest cat, it stood up, shook-off the muck from its body, roared loudly, and growled at the big cat.
And then, without waiting for the big cat to react, it turned and ran, dashing like smoke to hide behind the little witch.
