Chapter 693: Chapter 41 Mutation_1

Just as Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man were idly chatting, a violent tremor shook Zheng Qing’s bed, startling them both. Even the fat cat, who had been engrossedly gnawing on a shrimp shell, lifted its head to curiously gaze at the bed.

Seeing the red curtain enclosed around Zheng Qing’s six-pillar bed inflate as if filled with air after a series of trembling, the little elves that had been hovering outside the curtain, waiting for their master, appeared to sense a terrifying aura. They shrieked in horror and aimlessly flew around in chaos.

"Gulp."

Xin Fat Man audibly swallowed, his eyes never leaving Zheng Qing’s bed curtain. After a moment of hesitation, he quietly asked Doctor Xiao Xiao beside him: "Doc...Did the manual mention any risks of on-the-spot explosive reactions when drinking transformation potions?"

Xiao Xiao frowned, cautiously flipping through his law book while keeping his eyes glued to Zheng Qing’s bed. His voice was soft yet extremely serious as he replied: "Theoretically, there’s no such possibility...But as you know, magic can sometimes be unreasonable. Throughout history, numerous magic accidents have occurred out of the blue."

This explanation made everyone even more uneasy.

Fatty Cat raised a paw and tapped it on the fat man’s arm. Getting the hint, he stealthily moved back two steps, snuggling up to the door of the balcony, cradling Flower Cat.

Xiao Xiao’s eyebrows drooped in resignation, he said grumpily: "We only have this much space. If there’s real danger, where do you think you can hide?!"

"As long as I’m farther away than you." Xin Fat Man muttered, taking his time to shove Flower Cat into a corner behind the balcony before he reached over the desk to his law book. As he flipped through the pages, a faint green halo gradually elevated around him.

...

Outside the bed curtain, the two roommates of Dormitory 403 were on tenterhooks, ready for battle.

Inside the curtain, Zheng Qing, who had just consumed the transformation potion, was squirming in his bed with closed eyes, using all his strength to struggle - if it were possible, if there was a next time, Zheng Qing decided he would never use transformation potion so recklessly again.

The bitter potion slid down his throat, burning everything from his mouth to his stomach. Even though he had mixed honey into it as the manual suggested, it was like trying to put out a raging fire with a bucket of water. The sweet taste of the honey did little to neutralize the bitterness. Zheng Qing even suspected that the use of honey was merely a psychological consolation.

Why hadn’t the effect been so strong when he mixed it with milk last time? Maybe the milk had induced sleep, or perhaps the school’s formula didn’t have such strong side effects?

Wrapped in his blanket, Zheng Qing had time for these random thoughts.

Once the potion entered his stomach, the young scholarship student felt an intense discomfort as if his intestines were stirring up a storm. He wanted to vomit but couldn’t, the nausea was unbearable.

He had eaten a full meal before drinking the potion in fear that the potion’s effects would be too overwhelming and harm his digestive system - also, he wanted to prevent a hungry cat from running out and making irrational decisions, like rummaging through the trash or eating mice and bugs.

Ideas in his mind raced like shooting stars, each one gradually fading and disappearing after streaking through his thoughts. Zheng Qing felt his consciousness slowly sinking into deep waters, yet at the same time, an odd sense of release spread from within. This contradictory sensation was so intriguing that it made him forget about his physical discomfort as he chased after these feelings.

Chasing, until his consciousness felt so weary that he couldn’t help but lay down, close his eyes and rest.

Meanwhile, a pair of luminescent green eyes suddenly sprang open within Zheng Qing’s bed curtain just as his consciousness drifted off to sleep.

"Roar... "

A low growl pierced through the thin curtain, echoing endlessly within Dormitory 403.

...

"Holy shit..."

"Why is it this?!"

As a dark head peeked out from the canopy, the two young men who were waiting outside couldn’t help but curse.

They had ample reasons to express their astonishment.

Under normal circumstances, after drinking the transformation potion, Zheng Qing would become a black, short-haired country cat with a shoulder height of a foot, four snow-white paws, and a pair of green eyes.

But now, the ’creature’ that had crawled out from Zheng Qing’s six-pillar canopy bed had nothing in common with the ’cat’ everyone was familiar with, except for those green eyes and dark, oily fur. On the contrary, the figure that climbed down from Zheng Qing’s bed instantly reminded Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man of the creature who dominated the Hunting Ground during the freshman competition.

The ’Black Tiger’.

"I told you, that ol’ guy has something ambiguous to do with him." Doctor Xiao’s mouth twitched, and, with great caution, he took a tiny step backward.

"We don’t know anything about their murky relationships!" Xin Fat Man was feeling a bitter taste in his mouth and regretted lending his honey to Zheng Qing to make the potion, "If it’s really that guy, we won’t be able to escape a single swipe of its tail..."

Even so, Xin Fat Man still held his Law book firmly, allowing the dazzling spells to flow within the clear light. Meanwhile, the vague blue color started appearing in his eyes.

"It’s definitely not the one from the Hunting Ground." asserted Xiao Xiao with certainty. However, he didn’t let his guard down and kept the spells in the Law book ready to be launched at any time.

"Holy cow! Tuan Tuan, what are you doing?!" Xin Fat Man suddenly exclaimed.

The Fat Flower Cat, which he had hidden on the balcony, had somehow slipped back into the dormitory, sauntered past the two wizards, and walked under the large black cat.

It then lifted its upper body, coiled its tail around itself, and sat stably in front of the ’Big Black Cat’, tilting its head, raising its front paw, and acting astonished while comparing its own and the black cat’s front leg distances.

The ’Big Black Cat’ shook its head, lifted a front paw, and patted it repeatedly, seeming not to understand the situation before it.

’Hehe, Hehe!’ The spirits whispered softly, flapping their wings and landing shakily on the black cat’s shoulders and its back. The big black cat stiffened its body as its ears twitched to the sides, and it glanced down at the spirit on its shoulder, but refrained from undertaking any drastic movement.

Not far away, the two young wizards holding their Law books let out a big sigh of relief.

"Oh my goodness!" Xin Fat Man tossed his Law Book forcefully onto the bed, muttering in a dialect from somewhere, "Bro, I was almost scared to death!"

"You can’t possibly die from fear, and even if it turned into that beast, you wouldn’t die of fear." Xiao Xiao carefully put away the law book. Even though his tone remained calm, his fingers were trembling uncontrollably, "Based on its behavior in the Hunting Ground, you’re more likely to have your belly ripped open and be torn to pieces."

The big black cat didn’t respond to their conversation.

It was busy using its front paw to open Dylan’s wardrobe, leaning towards the large dressing mirror, and admiring its appearance.
