Chapter 668: Chapter 16 Interrupted Meeting_1
As usual, Old Yao emphasized the importance of diligent study and safety during the Sunday meeting, while announcing the midterm exam scores – because these were quizzes, and their impact on the end-of-semester credits was minimal, coupled with the effects of Moon Hunting, the students didn’t take them too seriously.
What was different this time was that Old Yao did not check everyone’s weekly diaries during the meeting -- this had relieved many people -- instead, he took some time to lavish praise on the Hunters who participated in the New Student Competition.
This included teams like Zheng Qing’s that won first place in the competition, as well as teams like Tang Dun’s which had no kills during the entire event, and never even experienced ’death’.
However, no matter how passionately he spoke, he couldn’t prevent some from daydreaming or conversing among themselves.
Like Xin Fat Man.
As an emerging journalist in the top school newspaper, Xin Fat Man had a pair of eyes keen for discovery and matchless curiosity. When Old Yao was still rambling on at the lectern, he couldn’t help but slant his head and repeatedly bother the cost student sitting diagonally behind him.
"What... exactly... did... you... do... with... Jiang... Yu...?"
The fat man opened his greasy mouth, struggling to shape his lips, trying to conduct a silent interview.
Zheng Qing ignored him, letting the fat man make all kinds of strange faces in front of him, while he himself lowered his head to recite the "Heart Sutra."
The sutra was a gift from Monk Shi Yuan to help him adjust his mood and stabilize his spirit. Although the scripture was short, Zheng Qing found his state of mind had improved somewhat after reciting it regularly - at the very least, it was much more effective in promoting sleep than the Tranquility Talisman.
However, for some reason, while reciting the sutra that evening, Zheng Qing kept feeling distracted and even found himself reciting the scriptures incorrectly! This left the young wizard feeling a bit frustrated.
After several attempts, he gave up and poked Doctor Xiao with his quill, whispering, "Hey! Have you been to Atlas?"
"What for?" Xiao Xiao looked at him sidelong.",
Zheng Qing raised the booklet in his hand.
"It’s about the ’Many Heart Sutras’, I’ve been feeling a bit strange about it lately." The young cost student hesitated, choosing appropriate words: "What I mean is, going to Atlas to find Monk Shi Yuan might help, he might have some advice."
"Or, if I can’t find him, there should be many ’Masters’ there, perhaps hearing them chant the scriptures might provide some insight."
Xiao Xiao straightened up, took the booklet from Zheng Qing’s hand, flipped it over, and eventually shook his head: "Atlas is quite xenophobic... haven’t you noticed that most of the courses at our university are held at the main building of Jiuyou Academy and Alpha Academy? It’s because Atlas’ environment is not very generator friendly."
"If you have any queries, we can call Shi Yuan, after all, he is also a member of the Absolution Knights group, and conveniently we are going to have this ’Money Spending Meeting’, we can kill two birds with one stone..."
Zheng Qing heaved a heavy sigh.
"I originally wanted to go to Atlas to take a look." The cost student explained with a slightly regretful tone: "In the Hunting Ground, I once vowed that if I could escape safely, I would offer incense to all the gods and Buddhas in the sky... I thought that the place with the most complete collection of gods’ statues in the whole university should be Atlas. So I originally planned to go there to fulfill my vow."
Xiao Xiao raised his head, struggled hard not to snort out a contemptuous sound from his nose.
Speaking of the Hunting Ground, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but think of hunting, then his experience of fighting with the demons, and then his own slingshot and Fu bullets, he also remembered the Colt Python that Jiang Yu gave him that afternoon.
Then something else sprang to his mind.
"Did you know that wizards began using bows and arrows to launch talismans thousands of years ago?" The young cost student asked Xiao Xiao in a questioning tone.
"That’s common knowledge." Doctor Xiao sat upright, looking seriously at the blackboard as the corners of his mouth moved to reply.
"Then do you know about Charm Guns?" Zheng Qing continued to ask quickly in a low voice.
"Who wouldn’t know?" Xiao Xiao finally turned his face, looking puzzled, he felt the cost student’s questions were a bit inexplicable: "One of the major businesses of Martin Toll Alchemy Company is the manufacture of Charm Guns, famous brands like Colt and Remington are all under its name... You know about Martin Toll, right? Our school’s charter plane was made by that company."
"I don’t know!" The young cost student looked at him indignantly, exclaimed quietly: "Since the wizard world already had Charm Guns, Fu bullets, bows and arrows for launching talismans, why did you suggest I apply for a patent! ... I almost made a fool of myself outside school! If I had done that, wouldn’t it be as ridiculous as whittling a wooden wheel and then applying for a modern patent?!"
"Wheels? What does this have to do with wheels." Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses: "I suggested you apply for the Fu bullet patent. The unique rune and structure you used when creating talismans was very original... If the application goes through, I believe Martin Toll Alchemy Company would be willing to pay you a reasonable patent fee."
"Wheels have indeed been around for thousands of years, and you wouldn’t be able to patent the appearance and function of a wheel. But different wheels have different specifications for the wheel hub, tire, bearings, etc... These details are directions for innovation, there’s no issue with patenting them..."
"Knock, knock, knock!"
The sudden knock on the door interrupted Old Yao’s endless chatter on the stage, and startled many students who were messing around under the stage - including Zheng Qing, who was in the middle of a chat.
When everyone sat upright and their eyes all turned to the door, and saw the identity of the person knocking on the door, the young cost student suddenly got the impulse to crawl under the table.
His impulse, however, came a little too late.
"Good evening, Professor. I apologize for the interruption." At the door, a young witch in a black maid’s dress saluted formally before asking Old Yao in a quiet voice, "Excuse me, is Zheng Qing in this classroom?"
Old Yao tilted his head and raised his eyebrows, curiously observing this young maid for a moment before shifting his gaze to the back of the classroom.
"Zheng Qing?" The Professor lifted his arm and waved his hand, "Go ahead, go ahead... there’s nothing else to discuss in this meeting anyway."
In the classroom, everyone turned their attention to the back once again.
Xin Fat Man finally turned his head openly and greeted the young cost student.
"Brother Qing! Someone’s looking for you!" The fat man yelled loudly, a malicious smile on his face, while he didn’t forget to lean his body forward and raise his arm high: "Professor, Zheng Qing is here!"
Zheng Qing didn’t make a sound, but with a gloomy expression, he swept all the objects on the desk, including the desk, into his grey cloth bag, then, with his head low, quickly scurried out of the classroom.
