Chapter 658: Chapter 6 In-school and off-school_1
With the next Underworld Festival approaching, the mixed-blood students have been rather agitated. So many of them, including Dylan, had been assigned to the campus hospital by the school—most of them were to stay in these quiet wards for a full month.
The school provided them with single wards, and they were served three meals a day by professional elf nurses, plus most other students spent most of their time wandering between the hunting grounds and the classrooms during the recent Moon Hunting period. This left the young wizards in the hospital feeling somewhat ’imprisoned’.
Like Dylan.
Back in the dormitory, he used to practise the ’old-fashioned’ style of being a creature of the ’Under the Moon’, not liking noise and paying great attention to dress and words. However, being confined in the school hospital for less than half a month has caused this young werewolf gentleman to abandon many of his old habits.
For example, when eating dumplings, he actually didn’t use a napkin around his collar, allowing the yellow-green broth to drip freely onto his clean hospital robe. Then again, he seemed to have completely given up on the standard of ’not talking while eating’, he couldn’t help but chatter while still chewing on dumplings, as if every word he didn’t utter was a great loss.
Perhaps most surprisingly of all, Mr. Werewolf now sleeps on a bed, not in a coffin!
"So you can sleep without a coffin!" Zheng Qing touched the soft bed under Dylan’s body, drooping his eyelids, looking at him, wondering if he should go back and smash that black coffin into Lin Zhong Lake.
"You think I didn’t apply for it?" Dylan rolled his eyes and replied unhappily, "Since being hospitalized, I’ve been filing three or four application reports a day on average, hoping to move the big coffin from my dormitory to the ward...
Saying this, he seemed to recall some annoying memories, shaking his head in frustration, and unintentionally exerting some force causing a dumpling to be squashed in his hand.
The green juice splattered, and the white frog meat fell into the soup, leaving an oil stain on the surface.
"Without a doubt, the hospital refused," the fat man drooled at the sight of the stain, smacking his lips, finally shaking his head: "Although it’s not a taboo or anything, I’ve never heard of a hospital ward with a coffin... It’s not a morgue here."
"What’s the difference between here and a morgue!" Dylan quickly moved his cheeks, hastily chewed the dumplings in his mouth and swallowed them, then bitterly said, "It’s cold and bleak... Apart from the elves who clean and feed, there’s not even a ghost to be seen! This is the best university! The place with the highest concentration of ghosts in the wizarding world!"
"When I’m in class, I can sometimes encounter four or five ghosts."
"Compared with the dead atmosphere of the hospital, the undead prefer places full of vitality." Xiao Xiao held her notebook, didn’t look up and habitually analyzed: "Moreover, in this kind of therapeutic place, it’s taboo to have things full of negative energy roaming around... It can easily cause complications in some symptoms. Thus, your idea is very stupid."
The doctor’s explanation is always so blunt and to the point.
Dylan was left speechless, his little fangs uselessly blowing cold air in the open air.
After a moment, he remembered he was eating dumplings. He then quickly picked up his lunch box and gulped down some broth.
After setting down the lunch box, Mister Werewolf seemed to have forgotten about Xiao Xiao’s rudeness a few seconds ago, and happily steered the conversation in another direction, "I heard that the hunting team was very brutal, capturing seventy to eighty percent of the game in the hunting grounds... How did you guys do it? Tell me about it."
"Don’t you know? They cheated!" Zhang Ji Xin grumbled as he pulled out a stack of newspapers from beneath Dylan’s pillow and shook them in the air, "Isn’t there an analysis and commentary in the paper?"
Dylan awkwardly glanced at the newspapers in the red-faced male wizard’s hands, humming, "Those were sent from home... I haven’t had time to read them yet..."
This sounded rather insincere.
Zheng Qing curiously took a few from Zhang Ji Xin’s hand. They included the Beta Town Post, which has the largest circulation on Buji Island, as well as other popular publications such as the Henghe Daily and Sanqing Weekly from other places.
Without exception, all these publications headline the event of the freshmen competition in the First University—an even the official ’College Cup’ competition has been squeezed into the margins.
Moreover, these headlines are one more sensational than the other.
Such as "Shocking! Two months into school, beating up three hundred demons!", or "State-funded student’s untold story with the Black Tiger Demon", then there’s "Terrifying freshmen of class ’08 - witches shriek at the sight, wizards remain silent!" and so forth.
With a twitch at the corner of his mouth, Zheng Qing looked at those strange headlines, feeling an urge to burn all the editors alive.
Zhang Ji Xin, however, pulled out the most authoritative "Beta Town Post", cleared his throat, and began to read the commentator’s article aloud:
"...Analysts point out that for a freshman in their first year, theoretically, they shouldn’t have the strength to kill over three hundred demons... Procuring spoils of war through contracted beasts could be considered unethical from a certain perspective... According to the related terms of 1895 Bavarian Hunt Agreement, hunters using ’battlefield disorder’ magic should be punished with a suspension of at least one year but no more than three, as well as a deduction of 50% of the total points from their hunting team..."
Upon reading this, Zhang Ji Xin shook the newspaper in mid-air and scoffed, "How lucky we are, our hunting team has no points to be deducted... After all, that’s a privilege only for regular hunting teams."
"So does that mean that I don’t need to be suspended?" Zheng Qing exhaled deeply. His heart had been in his throat as Zhang Ji Xin read the analyst’s commentaries.
Originally, he thought it was just some envious students causing a fuss at school, but it turned out that his own hunting team had created such a big stir outside the school.
"Even if we were a regular hunting team, we wouldn’t be deducted points, and you would not be suspended." Xiao Xiao finally raised his head from his notebook.
He adjusted his glasses, looked at the puzzled state-funded student, and explained softly: "The 1895 Bavarian Hunting Agreement constrains large hunting teams established before 1895, targeting magic similar to ’pseudo-forbidden curses’...that is, powerful magic that existed before modern forbidden curses appeared."
"All magic within this scope is on one list - without a doubt, we have absolutely not used any of the magic from that list in the hunting field."
"You shouldn’t always focus on what’s right in front of you... see through the phenomena to the essence of the issue."
"Since the beginning of the year, a number of media outlets, including the Beta Town Post, have been gradually questioning the teaching methods, management models, campus safety, student quality, etc., at The First University."
"The incident of Nikita invading the school-entering aircraft in September has already been widely circulated in the newspapers, and it’s only just settled down. Not to mention the Kappa Monster incident afterwards, which was also exploited by newspapers."
Speaking of which, Xiao Xiao glanced at Lin Guo without any change in emotion.
The young wizard’s face flushed red, clutching his small backpack, facing off against the Mickey Mouse on its cover. Zheng Qing clearly remembers that Lin Guo had fainted under the influence of the Kappa Monster’s aura and was hugely mocked by the newspapers.
"...In short, judging by the mood, there seems to be certain forces within the wizard alliance probing The First University’s bottom line through public opinion."
"Or you might say their ’rich resources’."
"Although it does not necessarily mean any ill-intentions, some people outside will definitely take keen interest in the school affairs. After all, this is one of the three major cornerstones of the world of wizards, and the most mysterious, most solid one."
"If the school doesn’t care about this ’wind and rain’, then these public opinions will gradually subside after being hyped..."
"Is there any doubt?!" Xin Fat Man clenched his fist, waved forcefully in mid-air, and said loudly: "This is The First University! Whatever bull-headed and snake-hearted wind is blowing, it can’t blow our school’s reputation!"
Xiao Xiao sighed and didn’t continue to explain, only adding one final sentence: "Theoretically, it should be like this if the headmaster were here."
