Chapter 607: Chapter 276 Rabbit and the Blue Bull_1
A grizzled wild bull was frolicking joyously in the wilderness.
The climate was cool, being in the twilight of spring, and the season within this Secret Garden was believed to coincide with the advent of spring and summer in the outer world. The grass was turning green again, the yellowish reeds were becoming tender at their necks, and their leaves were rich and full. This was the peak moment of palatability, and no grazing animal could resist these nutritious pastures. Not to mention, a lot of shrubs were interspersed within the grass, which hadn’t undergone the baptism of summer storms or autumn winds, their bodies soft with fresh green thorns - this was the perfect time to devour them.
Whether it be hares or gazelles, they were gulping enthusiastically, busily feeding their bellies to make up for a winter of depravity and its lingering effects.
Except for that wild bull.
This brute, towering at a shoulder height of three meters, was covered all over with scattered pieces of scale armor, its shimmering coloring adding an edge of unease in the dim light. Whether it was its outward appearance, nobody would mistake it for an ordinary bull, particularly not its scarlet eyes, which any junior wizard - given their primary school education - could identify as that of Bullhead.
The horns of the Bullhead didn’t spike straight into the sky, nor did they extend flatly to both sides. After growing out straight for a while, they twisted dramatically inwards, the tips aimed right at its skull.
If one were to use a phrase to describe them, ’double horns piercing through ears’ would be an apt one.
Zheng Qing knew that bulls with such horns tended to be particularly pugnacious. He faintly remembered a dream where he was riding a yellow bull with horns of that sort, where an old man with a hazy appearance had told him that these horns, growing on the bull’s head caused pain, driving it to clash chaotically here and there, in hopes of relieving the slow, persistent agony.
Having experienced similar headaches, Zheng Qing always felt a twinge of empathy whenever he looked at that yellow bull.
However, in the end, the old man in his dream had gone to mend the road and took the bull away with him.
Which left him somewhat upset.
In the wilderness.
Bullhead hopped about, sniffing around, seeking something. It held the grass under its mouth in contempt. Occasionally, when the few cheeky flowers fell into Bullhead’s nostrils, it would provoke a big sneeze.
Yet, it did not deter it from gradually narrowing the distance to the Absolution hunting team.
Bullhead could smell an enticing scent in the air - awakening its primordial hunger that was etched deep within its bloodline, driving it mad.
Until it passed by the section of woods smoldering with residual embers, the Bullhead finally ceased its step.
It could confirm that the scent had originated from these woods, still burning. But now, what was emanating from the woods was more of the sharp smell of the residual charred vegetation - oh, it seemed there was also a fellow creature with ’sacred blood’ that had been reduced to ashes. The heavy smoke and pervasive dust effectively masked the scent it had sought before.
It twisted its neck and flared its nostrils to their fullest, taking a deep inhale.
Despite erupting into four or five sneezes consecutively due to the dust, it wasn’t able to sniff out any valuable clues. Even the enticing scent from before was fainting, almost gone.
This visibly agitated Bullhead.
It growled lowly, swung its tail forcefully, casually lashing out at a Soharu tree at the edge of the woods. The thick tree trunk snapped under its tail whip, and the upper half of the Soharu tree took off into the distance, toppling into the smoky woods with its umbrella-shaped canopy.
"Crash."
Following the fall of the broken Soharu branches, there was a sudden rustling noise from the nearby bushes. Through the heavy white smoke, one could barely glimpse it.
Bullhead’s ears twitched slightly, and its egg-sized eyes suddenly lit up with an eerie red glow, menacingly fixing its gaze in the direction of the noise.
The bush moved slightly, and out hopped a white rabbit.
This rabbit was covered in white fur, short-limbed but extraordinarily plump. At that moment, it was rolling its round red eyes, twitching its long ears, staring blankly at Bullhead at a distance.
"Moo!!"
The Bull Monster sniffed with its nose.
Although there was a faint scent coming from the rabbit, it was not what it craved for—the smell of a wizard as mentioned in its bloodline memory—if it had smelled this on the rabbit before today, it would have pounced on the rabbit and bitten it to pieces without hesitation.
But now, it had more important things on its mind.
Once it had determined that this little creature was neither its prey nor its companion and was no threat to it, the Bull Monster resorted to a warning growl, turned its head, and continued to stare at the smoking forest, pondering about its next move.
It had a feeling that the prey it truly longed for was nearby.
"Crunch Crunch!"
Feeling shunned by the Bull Monster, the rabbit felt thoroughly humiliated. It pulled out a large carrot from its back, gobbled a few bites to shape it into a double-edged short sword, then with a ’squeak,’ charged towards the Bull Monster, fiercely stabbing with its carrot sword.
The Bull Monster was interrupted from its deep thoughts. Unpleased yet too indifferent to bother with this little creature, it flicked its hoof and crushed the carrot sword, then lifted its head, pacing slowly along the edge of the forest, contemplating whether it should venture deeper into the forest to search around.
The rabbit, witnessing the Bull Monster being affected by its stab, immediately bounded away excitedly, its short tail flapping behind it at the bull brazenly.
But after moving only a few steps, it turned around to find the Bull Monster strolling near the edge of the forest, not chasing after it.
The rabbit’s round eyes narrowed instantly, revealing a hint of dangerous red light.
The Bull Monster did not even glance at it, but simply raised its head, sniffing the air on its own, trying to distinguish that familiar scent from the myriad of odors, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and other particulate matter in the air.
The chubby white rabbit finally gave up on its ’gentle’ approach.
It once again pulled out a larger carrot from its back and stealthily crept up behind the Bull Monster.
The Bull Monster, uncaring, continued to sniff the air diligently.
"Squeak!"
Accompanied by a squeaky cry, the rabbit jumped two meters high, swinging the carrot in its hand and aiming straight at the Bull Monster’s rear.
The Bull Monster tilted its head slightly, its pupil twitched, its thick tail swished upwards and smacked the rabbit hard.
"Puff."
Like a deflating balloon, the annoying jokester of a rabbit disintegrated into a flurry of white confetti with a single swat of the Bull Monster’s tail.
The Bull Monster, who was initially anticipating adding some color to its tail, froze in place, seemingly yet to comprehend what had just happened.
"Hehe..."
A suppressed and deep chuckle came from the shrubs on a nearby hill.
Then, a slim figure started trembling within the shrubs, gradually revealing its true nature.
