Chapter 550: Chapter 219: Escalating Conflict_1
When the disturbance occurred, the young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team were still holding binoculars, chatting while criticizing the wild behaviour of the Clover Hunting Team in the sparse forest wilderness as barbaric.
But soon, they recognized what real barbarians were - more accurately, barbaric fairies.
At first, disturbances only occurred in a few places in the grandstand.
For example, individual hot-headed Red Robe Wizards rushed into the territory of the White Gowns, expressing their anger towards the Clover Hunting Team and Alpha Academy’s indifference to the related ’discrimination’ issues vehemently.
Of course, some fanatically religious Yellow Robe Wizards took advantage of the densely packed crowd watching the hunting match, scurried everywhere, and preached God’s glory and the necessity of faith to any student willing to listen. However, due to different values, such one-sided preaching often turned into multi-faceted debates, and inevitably, heated words were exchanged.
Then there were a few Blue Gowns who had friction with the White Robes from the neighboring Starry Sky Academy. A few powerful young wizards, puffed up with rage, stood together, competing with each other in terms of eye contact and biceps.
Such incidents were common, especially when students from Starry Sky Academy were present. The organizers found it hard to stop these violence-prone Blue Gowns from keeping their cool when friction occurred. Of course, given the severe punishments for using the Law book on classmates recklessly, young wizards had learned the importance of provoking their opponents to gain the moral high ground, especially when being watched by the crowd.
Such minor disturbances happened every moment on the stand, but they also ended soon.
So they didn’t attract much attention.
Until some unexpected guests appeared in the stands.
The witches of Jiuyou Academy, who were sitting in the front row of the stands, were the first to notice the irregularities.
Originally, the wizards of Jiuyou Academy carried forward the spirit of giving the best viewing seats to the witches of their academy. However, they obviously overlooked the fact that when danger strikes, witches sitting in the front row with nothing to shield them would suffer greatly due to this detail.
"Bugs!"
A sharp voice sounded among the witches, followed by a series of hysterical screams and the rushing figures of women fleeing in panic.
Standing above the grandstand, Zheng Qing quickly noticed the ’bugs’ causing the disturbance.
They were peculiar creatures less than three feet tall, which seemed to crawl out from beneath everyone’s seats.
They had disheveled, green algae-like hair, black eyes with no whites, and the corners of their eyes were upturned, giving a fierce impression. They had skinny, long noses, with the tips hanging limp, as though they constantly had an uncleanable runny nose on their faces.
These strange-looking creatures were unclothed and coarse in their behaviour. Some exposed their lower bodies, brazenly parading their caterpillars in front of the witches; some took liberties to defecate on the seats, or they simply stuck their caterpillars into speaker flowers and laughed heartily, watching the poor flowers choked to their last breath; others even bulged their mouths, spiting at every wizard in range.
Their saliva was yellowish-green, smelling like a can of rotten herring, enough to enrage even the calmest wizard.
"Oh, damn it! Who invited these Fence Fairies!" Zhang Ji Xin grumbled, holding his nose in disgust. He shouted at a stunned male student not far away, "Where’s the maintenance committee? Go find someone from the pest control office!"
"And where’s the student council?" Xin Fat Man chimed in, "They’re swift to deduct credits, but when there’s a real problem, no one’s coming up to solve it!"
In response, a Fence Fairy, who had been struggling to climb up the grandstand, puffed up its mouth, preparing to spit at the two wizards.
"Thump!" A large black bag fell from the sky, covering the small demon.
"Try not to use magic!" Panting heavily, Xiao Xiao twisted the bag tight and shouted at Zheng Qing, "If you don’t want to invite a bunch of ’bugs’ like this to your dormitory, don’t use magic on them!"
The scholarship student, who just opened his Law book, was startled. His hands trembled so much that he nearly dropped the book.
"What on earth are these things!" He hesitated for a few seconds, pulled out a stack of inferior suppression symbols, and casually slapped one onto the bag in Xiao Xiao’s hand.
The bag, which had been struggling violently, instantly became quiet.
Doctor Xiao let out a long sigh and gave Zheng Qing a thumbs up: "Only someone like you who always has hundreds of talismans in your pocket, would waste valuable talismans on these ’vermin’."
"What are they?" Zheng Qing continued to follow Xiao Xiao, capturing these ugly fairies, while repeating his question.
"Fence Fairies, scientifically known as Berle-Hillyer fairies, also called ’barbaric fairies’ by wizards, but most people prefer to call them ’pests’ or ’vermin’... This is by no means derogatory, but just a matter-of-fact way to refer to them."
"No one knows where these ’vermin’ came from. Perhaps they escaped from a wizard’s laboratory, perhaps they’re a ’gift’ from the pioneers of the new world, or perhaps demons are trying to mess with us..."
As he said this, Xiao Xiao handed another bag filled with fairies to Zheng Qing, indicating for him to slap another suppression symbol on it: "In any case, Brian Berle and John Hillyer first discovered these creatures under a fence, so they named them Fence Fairies... It must be admitted, their naming skills are much worse than yours..."
"Boom!"
A loud explosion interrupted Xiao Xiao’s speech.
Zheng Qing turned around in alarm.
Across from him, in the center of Alpha Academy’s stand, a gigantic green mushroom cloud was slowly rising. A group of Alpha students scrambled to escape from the area enclosed by the mushroom cloud, causing chaos in the stands, which was even worse than at Jiuyou Academy’s stand.
Even separated by a hunting ground, Zheng Qing seemed to be able to smell the pungent odor under that mushroom cloud and see the Alpha students’ faces streaming with tears and mucus.
Such a scene was rare to see among the always elegant Alphas.
"Ha! These pretentious gentlemen..." Xin Fat Man opened his mouth as if he wanted to mock them.
But then, an angry voice resounded from the Alpha stand, interrupting Fat Man’s speech.
"You bunch of despicable, shameless... utterly impolite bookworms!" After a few seconds of pause, the angry voice roared even louder: "Wind tunnels!—To curse you!"
A violent gust of wind suddenly appeared, carrying the green cloud across the hunting ground and rolling towards the stand of Jiuyou Academy.
There was silence in the stand of Jiuyou Academy for a few seconds.
"An Alpha Soul Light has attacked!!" A roaring voice broke the silence in the stand.
"Boom!"
In an instant, multicolored protective shields lit up one after another above the stand of Jiuyou Academy. One spell after another followed, slowly rising up from behind the shields and heading straight for the stand of Alpha Academy.
The wizards in white robes also refused to be outdone, and their undulating and rhythmic chanting echoed across the entire hunting ground.
The wizards who were still liaising with the patrol team and the academy workers’ committee on the stand were stunned for a moment, grabbed the files on the table, and took off running— they didn’t even have time to stop the ongoing circuit race in the small world.
A melee between the two academies.
It was no longer something they could stop.
