Chapter 466: Chapter 135: Put Down That Little Fox_1
In the past, wizards would always add the phrase ’urgently like a decree’ at the end of their spell casting, implying that the spell should be as obliging as an order, taking effect immediately.
Although modern wizards no longer use such a crude straightforward incantation when casting spells, they haven’t completely abandoned this effective spell form. Instead, they’ve sealed it within the Law book, empowering each spell recorded in the book with the effect of ’like a decree’.
The fox maids, naturally, do not fully comprehend these esoteric wizarding knowledge.
But it did not prevent them from sensing the speed at which the male wizard from the top university in front of them was performing his magic.
Zhan Yuchen flipped through the Law book, his lips moving slightly. The faint blue halo emerging from the book suddenly entered deep into the Pet Garden. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, it transformed into streaks of shooting light, which brought back a group of little foxes.
"One, two, three, four, five, six," the red robe attendant counted the little heads one by one, then nodded his head, marking their names off in the register.
The little foxes lined up and obediently sat beside the attendant’s feet. With their ears pricked up and round curious eyes, they looked at the unfamiliar guests not far away.
Although they didn’t recognize the fox maidens’ scent, they naturally felt a sense of familiarity, which slightly put them at ease.
There were some well-behaved ones like Poseidon who even wagged his tail - because he’d heard from a husky in the park that wagging tails could create a favorable impression.
"Is it really a fox?" One of the fox maidens pointed at Poseidon, whispering to another, "Who’s got a fox that wags its tail?"
"But it does look like a fox," her companion seemed somewhat perplexed. "Maybe because it’s not purebred? Blue and white fur...it’s quite rare."
"Its bloodline should be pretty pure," said Su Ya, a young fox maiden who had also joined in. She chattered, "I can feel a familiar scent from it... As for wagging its tail, maybe it was abandoned by its parents when it was young and then raised by a big dog. That’s probably why it acquired this bad habit."
It must be said that this guess was very close to the truth.
The attendant of the Pet Garden naturally wouldn’t care about the whispered gossip and wild guesses among the fox maidens. He felt he had more important things to remind them of.
"Although Dean Yao has given you permission, your free time only lasts until the end of the ball!" Zhan Yuchen, looking at the little foxes in front of him, warned seriously: "I will wait here for you...If any of you come back late, you can forget about going out for the next week."
The little foxes immediately straightened up, squeaking in agreement.
Zhan Yuchen sneered and ignored these well-behaved little rascals—for whom amnesia is an innate talent, so much so that they often forgot the promises they made.
His words were meant for the fox maidens.
The leading fox maiden was obviously very bright. She quickly got the deeper meaning of the attendant’s words.
She smiled slightly and thanked him: "Then we will not disturb any longer...As for these little ones, we will make sure they return promptly.’
Zhan Yuchen nodded approvingly, praising the fox maiden for her cleverness.
"Even if they are kidnapped by monsters, I will bring them back," the little fox maiden named Su Ya raised her hand, earnestly promising, "...this is a pledge I swear on my life!"
The red-robed attendant looked at her blankly.
Being a senior, he felt there was a profound generational gap between himself and this second-year junior, making it challenging for him to understand the punchline in the little fox maiden’s words.
The leading fox maiden blushed slightly.
"Read less manga!" She turned her head and scolded lightly, then ordered, "Everyone grab one...the ball is about to start, we need to speed up."
A group of fox maidens immediately surrounded them, selecting little foxes they fancied.
Because Su Ya was quite short, she ended up at the back.
As she squeezed into the crowd, the original row of six little foxes was reduced to one- the white fox with light blue water patterns on its back.
"Its name is Poseidon, a pet partner of a scholarship student from Jiuyou Academy, not even a year old..." Zhan Yuchen kindly explained on the side: "It is usually very obedient, you don’t have to worry about caring for it."
Poseidon, hearing the duty student’s praises, immediately straightened its chest and wagged its tail eagerly.
"Then I choose you," the little fox lady sighed, picked up the white little fox and scratched its chin, "Follow me, and you must behave..."
Poseidon squinted its eyes and nodded repeatedly.
It turned out, the little fox’s gesture was as light as a feather, no, even lighter than that.
Since getting out of sight of the duty student at the pet garden, Poseidon became as wild as an ungovernable dog. It jumped on the lawn, beating up groundhogs that stick their heads out to admire the moon; then it left a patch of territorial marks at the tree root like a dog, and by the time it arrived at the ball, it behaved like a high lord inspecting the territory, waving to many wizards and demanding party gifts- it was clear that many wizards knew it.
Compared to Poseidon’s joy, the little fox lady felt like she was about to have a heart attack.
She had to drag her short legs to follow the little fox and clean up after it continuously.
Like apologizing to the groundhogs that were admiring the moon, using magic to clean the roots of the tree where it left the stink, thanking every wizard who gave gifts to the little fox, then was also needed to help Poseidon pack the gifts properly.
Just when she was barely holding up to the second half of the ball and the fox ladies’ program ended, Su Ya let out a breath of relief. But then the little fox seemed to smell something in the air and ran away from the ball scene in a whiff.
"Sister Man!" Su Ya wanted to cry but had no tears, looking at the head maid: "My little fox ran away..."
"Ran away?!" Su Man, the head maid, immediately stood up.
She was holding a red fox named Jiulama in her arms.
Upon hearing the little fox lady’s report, Jiulama seemed to hear something interesting and laughed while rolling over.
Su Ya pouted.
"Where did it go?" Su Man calmed the red fox in her arms and asked.
The little fox lady turned around and looked at the bustling crowd. A vague expression appeared on her face. She raised her hand, turned a circle and returned to the head maid.
Su Man sighed deeply.
"We did promised that red robe wizard to send all these little foxes back." After pausing, she comforted, "But don’t be too anxious, let’s look around first... if not, we’ll ask for our lady’s help... Anyway, we can’t be disrespectful in someone else’s home."
But considering the size of the academy, a few fox ladies simply couldn’t conduct a thorough search.
All they could do was to circle around Lin Zhong Lake and try their luck in the nearby woods and lawns.
It had to be said, Su Ya was very lucky.
She just followed the tree-shaded road till the end and saw the familiar figure of the little fox.
"Put down that little fox!"
She immediately pointed at the figure holding the little fox and yelled.
