Chapter 414: Chapter 83 Conversation on the Terrace_1
At the end of the full team meeting of the Absolution Knights, Deng Xiaojian’s reply to Zheng Qing had flown back.
In the letter, the sophomore veteran from the Starry Sky Academy readily agreed to the request of the young scholarship student.
What was particularly satisfying was that Deng Xiaojian mentioned in his reply that his hunting team had just finished their pre-competition intensive training, and the members were in need of some relaxing preparatory training.
"Perhaps we can help your hunting team with ’one-on-one’ training. I believe my companions would be delighted to meet you young, excellent wizards."
Zheng Qing held up the letter, loudly reading Deng Xiaojian’s reply, with a brilliant smile on his face.
"It’s settled then!" Zhang Ji Xin clapped his hands excitedly, his ruddy face gleaming under the white light bulb: "Perhaps we can even borrow their training ground... a coach, training ground, and an already formed team... we have put together the most basic framework."
"Who is this ’Deng Zi’ you mentioned from which hunting team?" Xiao Xiao was clearly more interested in the identity of the new coach for the hunting team.
This question stumped Zheng Qing.
Upon reflection, he seemed never to have paid attention to this matter.
So the young scholarship student could only ambiguously explain: "...He is from Starry Sky Academy, a sophomore this year. His cousin and my family are neighbors. They open a herbal medicine shop in Hui Az Ji... Anyway, our hunting team only needs to do some basic training, any experienced hunting team can do it, right?"
This was not wrong.
Doctor Xiao noticed the scholarship student’s embarrassment, shrugged, and did not continue to interrogate.
"Remember your task!" Before leaving, Zhang Ji Xin used his loud voice for one final round of instruction: "Meet up with ’Deng Zi’ tomorrow, specify the training times and content...if we need to do other preparations, make sure to send the paper crane in advance."
"Okay, no problem." Zheng Qing laughed and enthusiastically bid farewell to several members of the Knights at the dormitory door.
"And also," Zhang Ji Xin leaned on the door frame, poking his head out and added: "Jiang Yu or Liu Fei Fei... make time to chat with either one of them. There are also many things to deal with concerning the hunting team manager, so we must decide quickly."
"No problem, okay." Zheng Qing chuckled, sending off this responsible head hunter from his dorm room, and then firmly shut the door with a ’snap’ sound.
In the dorm room, Xin Fat Man was already buried in his quilt, dozing off with his eyes half closed.
The orange cat was curled up next to his hand, purring leisurely.
Little elves flew all around, picking up pieces of paper on the ground, sorting out the toppled books on the desk, shattered scraps of paper, and the used disposable cups.
The copper mirror hanging under the ceiling slowly rotated at a constant speed, and a dim yellow light flashed across the mirror surface from time to time.
"I always feel that I’m not fit to be the captain of the Knights... or the captain of the hunting team." Zheng Qing fell onto his bed and whined weakly to Doctor Xiao in the room who was still lively. "How about you becoming the captain of the Absolution? I think you can do better than me..."
Xiao Xiao was initially working hard on writing, but as soon as he heard that the scholarship student wanted to retire, he was stunned and was silent for a moment.
Instead, a drowsy Xin Fat Man was the first to open his mouth.
"No, no, no." The fat man waved his short arm, burrowed deeper into the quilt and said vaguely, "The Doctor is more like a strategist...a staff officer, a military adviser... Don’t just think about these things randomly, hurry up and go to sleep. There’s a pile of trouble waiting for us tomorrow... huff... huff..."
With that, he simply fell asleep.
"Or Zhang Ji Xin would be good too." The young scholarship student was still somewhat lacking in confidence, sighing, "The elder might be a bit hot-tempered, but he’s quite inspiring when he speaks... and he’s very organized when doing things."
"Which is why he can be an excellent head hunter, not a hunting team captain." Xiao Xiao finally seemed to react, speaking leisurely: "Just like how I’m not good at giving speeches or physical activity... The elder is not cut out for detailed planning or organizing complicated resources."
"I’m not good at anything." Zheng Qing declared weakly.
"You don’t need to be. You just need to take charge of coordination and arrangement." Xiao Xiao turned around, buried his head back in his notebook, and waved his hand dismissively: "Let everyone else complete the other tasks together...just like the fat man said, you should go to sleep early. There are a lot of things waiting for you tomorrow."
In other words, he, as the captain, was playing the role of a mediator? Zheng Qing squinted his eyes and contemplated. So his usual duty was to smile and say ’good’ during meetings, and after the meeting, run around and clean up after everyone.
Tsk, for some reason, there was always a subtle feeling of being used.
The young scholarship student was lost in thought, and fell asleep in a daze.
...
...
While the members of the Absolution Knights were meeting in dormitory 403,
In the Alpha Academy, inside the Karen Family’s lounge,
Sir Friedman Black Karen was with his cousin, Matthew Karen, standing on a secluded balcony that protruded out of the castle, looking at the moonlit night.
The balcony’s railings were intricately carved from a single block of white marble. The grand carvings sparkled gently in the moonlight, bewitching. It is said that when the balcony was first built, the Karen Family stuffed a wailing demon soul into each pillar.
From left to right, there were seventy-two pillars.
So there should be seventy-two demon spirits buried within.
Whether or not there were demonic souls inside the pillars, Matthew Karen wasn’t sure. But the lifelike faces appearing on the pillars, the beautiful and realistic lines, and the detailed intricacies that could almost be mistaken as real seem to verify something indirectly.
Matthew stared at a pillar that was carved into the shape of a witch, carefully looking at its side profile, always feeling that she bore some resemblance to the Gypsy witch in his class.
It was only when his cousin broke the silence of the night.
"...I have arranged everything for you." Sir Friedman swayed the Burgundy glass in his hand, gazed at the bright red liquid in the glass, and said leisurely, "Among this year’s new students in Alpha Academy, there are quite a few outstanding newcomers. You can form a hunting team with them to participate in this year’s rookie competition..."
"Rookie competition?" Matthew was a bit surprised: "Is it necessary to participate in such a preliminary competition?"
"It wasn’t originally." Sir Friedman turned his head, his deep-sea blue eyes seeming somewhat profound under the moonlight: "But since Sepulano plans to show off in this competition, I naturally cannot let him take all the limelight."
