Chapter 329: Chapter 253 - Testing Under the Moon Council and the School’s Attitude_1
While Nicholas was huddled in his dark dormitory writing a letter to his mother, in another corner of the university, a group of people were pondering how to write a reply.
This was also a room lacking in light.
However, compared to Nicholas’s cramped and small dormitory, this room was vastly superior in both size and grandeur.
Although the stars in the surrounding void had already dimmed, the dragon-shaped chandelier hovering over the oval office table lit up a few whiskers.
The soft yellow light mixed with the deep blue glow emanating from the dragon’s two huge eyes, pouring onto the delicate clivia in the center of the table, coating them in a layer of mysterious light.
The conference table was bare.
No materials, no notebooks, no fruit plates, no snacks, no drinks.
Even the flower sprites who usually dozed on the clivia leaves had been removed from the venue by the elves in grey uniforms.
Apart from the six figures seated around the conference table, there was no seventh living creature in sight.
This was room 101 in the office building of Jiuyou Academy.
It was also the largest conference room in the academy.
The two vice-principals of the university were seated at either end of the table, while the deans of the four colleges were seated two by two on both sides of the table.
On the left were Jeuyou Academy and Starry Sky Academy.
On the right were Alpha Academy and Atlas Academy.
Old Yao, biting on his dark pipe, arms crossed, stared at the clivia in the center of the table, his eyebrows furrowed into a knot; the dean of Starry Sky Academy seated next to him held a short knife, meticulously wiping the blade with a piece of blue silk.
Professor Emma sat opposite Old Yao, her hands holding a stack of papers, reading quietly in the faint light above; next to her, the dean of Atlas Academy sat with his eyes closed, his fingers fiddling with a string of bodhi beads.
Vice Principal Ruo Yu’s metal cane leaned against the table, and he was huddled in his dark robe, blending into the deep space behind him like a shadow.
Vice Principal Shi Hui held her chin in her hands, her gaze slowly slid over each participant’s face. After a long while, she finally opened her mouth and said:
"Let’s all express our views about the letter from the Moonlight Council."
As soon as she finished speaking, Old Yao grabbed his pipe and banged it on the table.
"Outrageous! Absolutely outrageous!" he glared, his pipe making a dong dong sound as he rapped it on the table: "They are taking advantage of our difficulties! This is extortion! If we comply with their demands, where will it end?!"
"Although I don’t agree with Old Yao’s vulgar way of expressing himself, I agree with his point of view." Professor Emma immediately voiced her opinion: "We should not only refuse the letter from the Moonlight Council, but also find ways to deter their dangerous ideas. The initial intention of the university was to control these dangerous spells...if we allow those guys outside to try them recklessly, not only the Wizard Covenant, even this world would start to tremble."
"Difficult, difficult, difficult." The dean of Atlas Academy finally lifted his eyelids, revealing a pair of grey eyes: "If I remember correctly, a few months ago, the Dark Blue Castle of the Ghost Clan just had an inter-dimensional vibration laboratory excised... and that’s just what we discovered. The Moonlight Council has a total of five upper council seats, which means there are five powers as strong as the Ghost Clan. Who can guarantee that they will not conduct these experiments in secret? Or rather, who knows how much research and small-scale experiments they have conducted behind our backs?"
"If they don’t listen, hit them. Hit them a few times, and they will listen." The dean of Starry Sky Academy expressed his opinion in a concise manner: "The Starry Sky Academy’s battle team is ready to deploy at any time."
"Simple and crude," Professor Emma pursed her lips, glancing at Old Yao, "Without any technical content."
"The problem is, we don’t have the extra strength to provide some kind of forceful ’guidance’ outside the school at the moment," the dean of Atlas Academy sighed deeply: "It is precisely because we need their power that we are so troubled by their letter."
The conference room was immediately plunged into silence.
Indeed, this was a big problem.
Due to the earlier than expected return of the tide in the Silent Forest, the estimated risks have also sharply increased this year. A large part of the university’s lower-level forces, including most of the school’s workers, all of the senior students, some teaching assistants, and lecturers are needed to be deployed in advance to take relevant precautions, resulting in a serious shortage of hands for the ’project’ underway in the Black Prison.
This is also why the university has issued a ’recruitment’ to the Moonlight Council.
But obviously, some of the elders on the Moonlight Council have keenly sensed the university’s difficulties and have tactfully mentioned in their reply that the council hopes to conduct some small-scale experiments in some ’desolate places’ that will ’not harm the world’, hoping to gain the support of the university.
This was already a bold hint to the vice-principals and deans of the university that the Moonlight Council wanted its ’Forbidden Spells’.
At the end of the letter, the Moonlight Council also worriedly mentioned that if it cannot obtain the protection of those powerful spells, the council will have to retain ’more’ hands to ensure its own safety.
This was why Old Yao was convinced that the Moonlight Council was attempting extortion.
Of course, in Professor Emma’s view, this could also be a sort of trial from other powers within the Wizard Covenant. After all, the excuse that the university lacked high-end warpower was as laughable as the O’Brien family running out of ancient nanmu coffins.
In the eyes of many demons, the principal of the premier university staying in the school is a significant deterrent. Enough to make them contemplate before setting foot in the university.
If the demons dare to invade the top institution, there can only be one explanation.
...
The silence in the conference room continued.
Vice Principal Shi Hui’s eyes fell on the shadow opposite her.
For a long time, she was motionless.
Master Ruo Yu remained silent all the while, like a stubborn stone, not uttering a word.
The atmosphere in the room was somewhat delicate.
Old Yao, raising his pipe, broke the increasingly awkward silence.
"Allow me to interject," he chuckled, raising his doubts, "I am wondering about the matter half a year from now, how much strength do we still lack? I remember that the university has already recalled many senior wizards from the New World, hasn’t it...?"
"We do have the basic strength." Vice Principal Shi Hui glanced at Old Yao’s pipe, her tone extremely calm, "However, we lack some top-tier strength... According to the school’s previous suggestion, the Moon-Beneath Council needs to send at least five Grand Wizard-level forces for perimeter defense."
"Perimeter defense." Old Yao nodded his head, chewed these words, and put his pipe back in his mouth.
"Indeed, these reinforcements will not be allowed into the inner city of Black Prison. And in fact, all we need is for them to appear at some point in the future." Principal Shi tirelessly added, "According to a report from the Divination Research Institute, there is a high possibility of a large-scale attack by the demons when that project is completed."
The breathing in the conference room suddenly became a bit heavier.
A ’high possibility’ from the Divination Research Institute is essentially the same as a certainty. The last large-scale conflict between wizards and demons seemed to be fifty years ago.
Blood flowing like a river, countless casualties—it is not enough to describe even a shadow of its cruelty.
The faces of several deans had become much uglier.
Of course, except for the dean of the Starry Sky Academy—his face was unconcealed with a satisfying smile.
"Five Grand Wizards... which amounts to all the seats of their upper council," Professor Emma nodded. She expressed with a serious tone, "No wonder they dare to ask for such a price."
"Humph." The dean of the Starry Sky Academy snorted, "Since when did the ancient pact become something that can be negotiated at will?! If the Moon-Beneath Council refuses to fulfill their obligation, we may also neglect our responsibility."
"No one is going to refuse to fulfill their obligation." The dean of Atlas continuously shook his head, "We only need some top-tier force... If the Moon-Beneath Council sends some underage youths, or worse, they directly order those young people studying in our school to go to the battlefield, what can we say?"
The atmosphere in the conference room stagnates.
The dean of the Starry Sky Academy was clearly at a loss for words.
"So, considering everyone’s opinions," Vice Principal Shi Hui tapped on the conference table with her fingers and summarized, "The policy of non-proliferation of forbidden curses by the First University is consistent and firm, and no one, no power, is allowed to challenge this principle."
"Furthermore, the agreement between the Moon-Beneath Council and the First University is sacred. It must be adhered to."
"Finally," she lifted her head to look at the quiet figure opposite the conference table, "Based on the two principles above, everything can be discussed... with the condition being that the university needs the five upper council members of the Moon-Beneath Council at the designated time and the designated place."
"I have only one additional point," Master Ruo Yu finally spoke his first sentence and of the night’s conference, his voice low and gravelly, "The hunting team of the school is prepared for demons... without the joint signature of six people, it must not be used in the internal warfare of the Wizards’ Alliance."
"This is also the principal’s opinion." A smile crept up Vice Principal Shi Hui’s face, while a satisfied expression appeared on her face, "As long as the Moon-Beneath Council abides by the ancient pact, the doors of the First University will always be open for them."
"In that case, I will increase communication and coordination with the Moon-Beneath Council and hope to achieve a win-win result." Vice Principal Ruo Yu bowed his head and sighed deeply, "May Merlin protect."
The dragon-shaped chandelier above the conference table flickered.
The light streaming down seemed like ropes, gradually being wound back and pulled into the dragon’s body.
A few figures flickered slightly.
Then vanished silently in this vast conference room.
The lights went completely out.
In the pitch-black void, only those two deep blue eyes remained, waiting for the light to return in the silence.
