As per tradition, the party following the opening ceremony would last till late into the night.

On this day, Dormitory Supervisor Uncle Ni Wu would particularly be generous, delaying the closing time until midnight, allowing the newcomers to revel in their day of welcome.

This was Nicholas’s third attendance at the opening ceremony.

From his first time feeling nervous and uneasy, to his second rendition of awkwardness and helplessness, to his current state standing beside these youthful faces, his gaze elusive, his expression somewhat absent-minded.

In fact, this was his first time attending the opening ceremony in the ranks of Jiuyou Academy.

The first time he had been part of the Alpha Academy; the second time, he was with the nearby Starry Sky Academy.

Contrary to the ’assumptions’ of most of the students in Astronomy Class 08-1, Nicholas hadn’t repeated a grade at Jiuyou Academy twice - although sometimes he would explain it that way to others, to enhance their perception of him. The more accurate description would be - he had repeated two grades at First University.

Just that the past two times had been at other academies.

In the year 2006, when he first entered First University, he was accepted into Alpha Academy. As a youth directly bestowed with the lineage by werewolf king Oswald, his talent easily obtained the approval of First University’s roster; however, as a hybrid werewolf, he could never gain respect at the Alpha Academy.

After yet another scoundrel insulted his mother at a college dinner, Nicholas finally exploded - he morphed into rage amidst the screams of the girls, and before the arrival of the professor, he waved his claws and ruthlessly beat the boy, knocking out his shining white teeth.

It felt great but was also quite foolish.

The university’s responsibility investigation report came out quickly. Because his action had a sense of ’defense’, and because the male wizard didn’t suffer any ’irreversible’ harm, the university did not directly order him to drop out. However, it was quite clear that he was no longer suitable to remain in Alpha Academy.

Thus in 2007, bearing a warning letter and carrying a simple bag, he entered another academy of First University - Starry Sky Academy.

Perhaps the professors of the academy started with the right intention. As a young wizard with a fiery temperament, and as a wizard who had been warned by the school for his recklessness, Nicholas was truly compatible with the atmosphere of Starry Sky Academy.

Yet the results were stunning.

Throughout an entire academic year, the professors of Starry Sky Academy described Nicholas in their remarks with words most used: ’cowardly’, ’lacking bravery’, and ’no fighting spirit’. Clearly, this kind of condition would not allow access to the higher level Starry Sky trial field.

In the annual summary at the end of the semester, Nicholas confessed to the professors, he had to take care of his younger sister. Until she turns of age, he can’t lose his life over any foolish battle - and in his eyes, most of the battles among the students of Starry Sky Academy were pointless or even foolish.

This perspective completely clashed with the academic philosophy of Starry Sky Academy.

After heated debate amongst the professors, they acknowledged Nicholas’s justification, but also recognized that artificially adjusting the school roster does not accord with the original purpose of establishing First University.

Returning to Alpha Academy was out of the picture. He could never go back there in this lifetime.

After careful deliberation, Jiuyou Academy issued an invitation to this veteran student who had repeated two years, allowing him to redo the first-year’s credits.

The prerequisite being, his code of conduct had to meet the requirements of Jiuyou Academy.

That is, his exam scores must be up to standard.

For Nicholas, this was too difficult. Unlike typical Jiuyou students, he seldom visited the library - it seemed only at the beginning of his university life, high on curiosity for First University, he took a short tour of the campus libraries.

However, he had no other options.

It all seemed like a dream.

The ambition and lofty ideals two years ago, gradually faded away into nothingness with each repetition. Those oaths that still echo in his ears seemed more like a joke upon reminiscing, like a whisper, an unreachable illusion.

A scream from a young girl echoed through the Main Hall, jolting Nicholas from his daydream.

The slim wizard lifted his head to see the screaming crowd, laughed, and shook his head.

A Kraken was floating in mid-air, emitting black smoke, waving its tentacles - just a trick the male wizards played to scare the witches.

"Aren’t you joining the party? Why are you standing alone here?" Zheng Qing walked over with his cup of wine, and chuckled: "I saw Liu Fei Fei by the sixth pillar over there, reading the stories on the murals."

"Just getting old, low spirits. " Nicholas’s eyes quivered, with a slight downward curve of his mouth, he revealed a sad smile: "Don’t worry... I think, it might be a good choice to go back and rest early."

Laughing heartily, Zheng Qing clinked his cup with the interesting veteran: "I’ve always wondered where you live ... I mean, it seems you don’t stay in the dormitory?"

"The exclusive apartment for third-year freshmen, you won’t be interested." Nicholas shrugged, gazing into the distance: "Xin Student is waving over there, isn’t he calling you?"

Upon Zheng Qing’s glance, indeed, Xin Fat Man was lifting the Orange Cat, waving it left and right, even seeming to call out something.

"Then I’ll go there first?" Zheng Qing apologized and raised his cup.

"Have a good time." Raising his cup, Nicholas clinked with the cost student.

After gulping down the Green Bee in the cup, the veteran raised his hand, and handed the empty cup to a Blue Elf circling above his head.

The Blue Elf flew away elegantly, flapping its wings, after giving him a plum, with empty cup in its hand.

Nicholas popped the plum in his mouth, chewed a bit, took another look at the bustling Main Hall, tipped his hat, and quietly departed.

He didn’t even say goodbye to Liu Fei Fei.

His mind was a bit chaotic right now.

He felt that he needed to return to an environment that could soothe his agitation.

Or perhaps, he needed a way to calm himself down.

Like writing a letter.

After returning to the exclusive student’s dormitory, it was still early.

Nicholas opened the drawer in the middle of the desk, picked out a crisp piece of stationery, along with a bottle of black ink, and a gray feathered pen.

He did not turn on the lights, the daylight from outside the window was still enough for a while.

Jumping on the bed, sitting cross-legged, with the sunlight from the window, Nicholas unfolded the letter on his knee.

He unscrewed the cap of the ink bottle, and dipped the feathered pen inside.

Glug glug.

The feathered pen happily drank the ink.
