Chapter 282: Chapter 206: Deducted 2 Points_1

A black butterfly was dancing gracefully outside the window.

She fluttered her wings, carefully weaving through the window frame and balcony with the help of the spiralling wind under the eaves. She deftly avoided the grass spirits clinging to the ivy vines and glided through the narrow spaces between their slender claws.

Watching their prey slip through their fingers, the grass spirits let out an indignant squeak.

The sunlight fell and was reflected back by the delicate, smooth scales on the black butterfly. Her body cast a tiny, glinting shadow on the red wall of the teaching building.

It was like a small dark cloud.

This dark cloud slid over the bricks, crossed the window sill, passed through the towering French window, and landed on a classroom desk, disappearing under the swiftly moving tip of a pen.

Zheng Qing’s pen paused in his hand, leaving a blot of ink on his notebook.

He looked up as if sensing something and looked out the window.

The outside was bathed in brilliant sunshine and the azure sky was devoid of any clouds. It was as if the dark shadow earlier was merely an illusion.

On the blackboard, the complicated logic diagram had been wiped clean by the little elves. The dark green board could reflect human shadows. The young wizards stuffed those disastrous terms into their notebooks and didn’t give them another look.

It was as if turning over the page would erase the nightmare-like memory.

Hunched over, Professor Yi JiaZi, leaning on the podium, continued his lecture at a leisurely pace:

"The process of divination is the process of gathering information."

"The main thing is to be thorough!"

"Pay attention to every tiny detail! Each and every mite must be scrutinised! You must be thorough!"

"Only in this way, can you accurately determine a person’s preferences after obtaining the information. Only then can you accurately adjust the parameters of the overall percentage of different judgements under the same event to make correct analyses."

At this point, he paused.

A tiny elf flew in from nearby with a giant teacup, landing it next to the professor.

Professor Yi picked up the cup, swallowed the steaming beverage in one gulp, and let out a contented sigh:

"A registered wizard proficient in divination, in some sense, can be just as powerful as a mighty wizard!"

"When you are skilled enough to intercept someone else’s information and gaze into the mysterious River of Destiny, sometimes a slight change—like throwing a stone into the river—can cause their life to completely collapse."

"Even if you throw enough large rocks, the River of Destiny may be blocked."

"And the world will collapse as a result."

This statement was so chilling, but also so compelling, that the classroom erupted in a collective gasp.

Zheng Qing also took a deep breath.

He began to reconsider whether he should persevere in learning divination.

Looking around, many people were enthralled by the scene Professor Yi described.

Even Xiao Xiao, who was always calm and collected, had a touch of fanaticism in his eyes.

An incandescent madness.

This atmosphere left the young scholar restless.

"Of course, that’s just a mythical state."

Professor Yi changed the subject, extinguishing the passion that had just surged in many people:

"Most people’s understanding of divination is far from satisfactory... even if these people learn standard divination, they can only rely on the ability to calculate, analyze, and strategize within it. They work on document processing in the administrative units of the Wizard Alliance, or serve as staff for a hunting team, if they are unlucky, they might even end up in some obscure alley, doing odd jobs for an unknown detective agency."

"Those present here... and I mean, most of you, fit into those categories."

"As much as I would like you to devote most of your time to my divination class, it’s simply not feasible. If you find that you don’t have a talent for it along the way, I hope you can proactively invest more time in other subjects."

"For instance, curses, talismans, or even magic text."

"Without the talent, no matter how much time you waste in this class, at most, you will only be able to see slightly higher, slightly further, and slightly clearer than the average person."

Zheng Qing bit his teeth and glared at the professor. In his mind, he thought, ’Being able to see higher, further, and clearer than others, what else is there to be discontented with?’

Apparently, Professor Yi wasn’t satisfied:

"If I’m fortunate enough to have the honor of teaching a genuine diviner... if anyone of you here can become a genuine Divination Master - those with this ability, in some sense, could be considered gods - then I hope you think carefully before you make any slight changes to your life, and think about the future of the world."

"What lies at the end of the thread you’ve pulled, who knows what it might be."

"You float in the River of Destiny, and destiny binds you there."

"This is the final destination of all diviners."

"You will never know if the dagger you wield to sever a certain thread is the Sword of Damocles hanging above your own head."

The classroom was silent, everyone was holding their breath and looking at the skinny figure in the oversized robe with admiration and longing.

The little elves dragged in huge cups again to refill Professor Yi’s hot drink.

The professor took a sip, smacked his lips, and continued:

"Of course, it is exceptionally difficult to completely predict a person’s future."

"Very difficult."

"For instance, we are most familiar with ourselves... but very few wizards can describe their own fate clearly. This is because we are the hardest to judge ourselves. Thus, you need a truly trustworthy companion to help you cultivate this ability."

Zheng Qing’s confused gaze slid across the faces of Xiao Xiao, Zhang Ji Xin, Xin Fat Man and others, and finally turned back to glance at the empty desk not far behind him.

A stifled chuckle could be heard from the side.

Professor Yi turned a blind eye to this little movement among the students and even his tone remained steady:

"What I’ve mentioned above falls under the standard divination taught through thorough training and drills."

"Apart from that, there are some wizards who are born with strong ’vision’ and can make highly accurate predictions through intuition... These wizards possess their own titles, like Observers, Witnesses, Prophets, and so on."

"In the hands of these kinds of wizards, tools like crystal balls, turtle shells, tarot cards are almost useless. They rely more on their extraordinary talent and mystical enhancement to pull off magic that seems impossible."

"In this respect, immigrants from the Tarot Star manifest themselves more noticeably than those lifeforms that have dwelled on earth for generations... The Gypsy Witch Coven has inherited many of their techniques... I remember we have an exchange student from the Witch Coven in our class, where is she?"

Zheng Qing perked up when the professor asked the question.

"Professor," he immediately raised his hand and shouted loudly, "Elena hasn’t been coming to class recently..."

"Didn’t come?" Professor Yi furrowed his brows, "Hmm, Elena, deduct one point... Even though I’m not very strict about classroom discipline, I won’t tolerate incidents of unexcused absences."

Zheng Qing was instantly stunned.

A wave of suppressed giggles came from the students around him.

"That’s not what I meant," Zheng Qing was getting anxious, he protested, "I mean, Elena hasn’t been to class for several days, she might be in danger..."

"Disturbing the class, dock one point." Professor Yi looked up at Zheng Qing and said leisurely, "This is the First University, there’s no danger... Even though I’m not very strict about classroom discipline, I won’t tolerate students causing a ruckus during class... If you have any objections, you can hold them."

Zheng Qing sat down, his face flushed, fuming silently by himself.
