Chapter 269: Chapter 193 Beauty and the Snake_1

While the young patrol team members were scouring every blade of grass under the scorching sun, searching for the giant snail rumored to spit the water of longevity.

Not far from the Lakeside Forest, on the top level of the Book Mountain Library.

A tall figure was standing behind the spotless floor-to-ceiling window, silently observing the vast lake through the thick glass.

Her gaze slowly shifted between a large artificial hill and the ant-like figures on the lawn.

For a long time, she didn’t move.

Several differently sized blue paper cranes circled around her, dancing gracefully, attempting to settle on her porcelain-white shoulder exposed to the air.

But they seemed as though enchanted by a hypnosis curse, unable to approach the figure.

"How long do you plan to let them fly?" A curious voice sounded from the side: "These are Zheng Qing’s paper cranes, right?"

The one who asked was Liu Feifei, seated behind a desk not far from the floor-to-ceiling window. A bulky hardcover work lay open before her eyes, a pink feather pen twirling between her fingers.

The rest of the desk was occupied by a languidly sprawling large snake.

The snake had rested its head on a stack of reference books, its body curled around the desk several times, the tip of its tail exceeded the edge of the desk, hanging mid-air, shaking contently.

For this cold-blooded creature, the almost constant cool atmosphere of the Book Mountain Library was its favorite.

"How long?" The tall figure’s voice faltered slightly, softly muttering to herself: "How long more must they fly without any control?"

Amid her murmuring, the finger holding the card slightly flicked, and a tarot card floated into mid-air.

"The Magician - Reversed"

A husky, pleasant voice softly sounded.

The blue paper cranes that were usually circling around the witch stopped abruptly and almost fell from mid-air, having momentarily forgotten flapping their wings.

A few seconds later, it seemed like the paper cranes received some sort of information. In unison, they clumsily changed their direction, flapping towards the outside of the library.

Perhaps the magical interference was too severe; some paper cranes even accidently collided with bookshelves.

Having gotten rid of the annoying little fairies, Elena flicked her wine-red wavy hair that fell by the side of her face, turned around, and looked at Liu Feifei, revealing a bright smile: "Why do you say it’s his paper crane?"

"Oh, well..." Liu Feifei’s face flushed, and after some hesitation, she finally stuttered: "Nicolas told me...he said you and Zheng Qing are in love."

Elena raised her eyebrows, looking surprised at the girl in front of her, a teasing smile gradually spreading across her face: "So it was Nicolas...ah."

Her trailing voice was a bit long and a bit husky.

Seemingly hidden within her trembling tones were hints of curiosity, astonishment, and realization.

Obviously, Liu Feifei was not capable of dealing with the provocative flirtation from the Gypsy witch.

She utterly forgot the question she had initially asked Elena and blushing, she instantly began to explain: "It’s not what you’re thinking... I was helping him with his homework... He significantly assisted me when the term started."

As she was speaking, she anxiously stroked the large snake under her hand, straightening it, then coiling it, then straightening it again, then coiling it up.

The snake lazily stuck out its tongue, attempting to relax its body as much as possible. It obviously had ample experience dealing with its owner’s habit of tormenting it when she was anxious.

"Oh..." It was another meaningful sigh.

Elena raised her onion-like index finger, holding it before her red lips, and nodded slightly: "I understand, I understand... you’re all classmates, helping each other."

Liu Feifei seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

She clenched her soft fist and pounded it onto the coiled snake, nodding her head in agreement: "Yes, yes... we’re all classmates, helping each other."

Underneath her fist, the poor pet snake opened its mouth, leaving out a painful and silent yell.

"What a cute creature." Elena softly murmured.

The snake stuck its tongue out, trembling pitifully.

"How did you manage to bring this little sweetie into the Book Mountain Library?" The Gypsy witch extended two slender fingers, placed them on the snake’s head, and slowly began to stroke it downwards.

The snake seemed to react to this touch. Its body stiffened as a rod would.

"Professor Zhang...the gentleman who manages the labyrinth of bookshelves, heard that my serpent is ill and was very interested," Liu Feifei clearly didn’t mind the change of topic. In fact, she seemed much more at ease when Elena changed the topic. "So he asked that I bring Little Dragon here for him to have a look."

"Your choice of words...is quite interesting." Elena furrowed her eyebrows, and her nose crinkled, making her look very adorable. "How come I didn’t notice that this...this adorable ’Lady Serpent’ is sick?"

As she spoke, her fingers rested on the serpent’s body.

"Lady?" Liu Feifei widened her eyes in surprise. "It’s a male...my grandmother told me."

"Oh!" The gypsy witch repeated as though she understood, "The serpent, sir?"

She tilted her head, staring at the creature under her finger with a fascinated look.

The serpent kept blinking rapidly, lying docilely on the table without moving.

"Draw a card." Elena tilted her head toward Liu Feifei. With a slight movement of her hand, the Tarot cards floated in mid-air, with the card back facing Little Dragon’s owner.

"Me?" Liu Feifei seemed very interested albeit slightly embarrassed. She murmured, "Just a random card?"

After receiving a positive response, the slightly reserved witch closed her eyes and randomly pointed at a card in the air.

"Upright ·Moon."

Elena’s husky voice sounded by her ear.

"Ah!" Liu Feifei suddenly opened her eyes and looked at the gypsy witch in a panic. "I suddenly remembered something urgent... I need to step out, I’ll be back quickly... could you please look after Little Dragon for me?"

As she spoke, she put her hands together beseechingly, looking towards Elena.

The gypsy witch smiled slightly, raising her left hand in the air to retrieve the Tarot cards that were suspended mid-air back to her palm.

"My pleasure." She smiled delightedly, watching the new first-year student dash off behind the distant bookshelves.

The whole corner immediately lost its former liveliness.

Only a serpent pretending to be dead on the desk and a beautiful witch were left.

"How long do you plan on lying around?" The witch was poking around on the body of the snake with her slender fingers, seemingly considering where to make a start. "If you’re not planning to say something, then I guess you won’t mind me taking some snake skin to make a bag."

"This little bit of skin...wouldn’t even be enough to make a coat for your sand-hour beetles." A hissing voice suddenly came out from the serpent’s mouth.

It was staring with cold eyes at the gypsy witch opposite it, the tip of its tail lifting slightly.

A grain-sized, translucent flying bug was tightly pinched in the crease at the tip of its tail.

Elena narrowed her eyes.

"Guess where I found this little bug?" It was a raspy voice, seeming exceedingly pleased.

"Is this a threat?" The witch’s voice remained incredibly calm.

"A threat?" The serpent hurriedly shook its tail, dislodging the little bug, its rigid mouth corners tugged up slightly. "No no no, this is just a friendly greeting...a little secret between us."

The sand-hour bug that was free of the snake’s tail fluttered its wings, flying lightly in mid-air, circled around a few times and then disappeared into Elena’s Kun Bag.

The curve at the corner of the serpent’s mouth became even more pronounced.

The gypsy witch withdrew her hand from the serpent, took a tissue from her bag, wiped it vigorously and then threw it with disgust into a trash can not far away.

"Who would want to deal with a...a stinking monster disguised as a pet." She sneered.

"Naturally it’s those who raise a bunch of weird bugs on campus and didn’t throw a pitiful little monster to the campus workers committee immediately...existences." The serpent blinked its eyes, smoothly responding: "If there’s any difference between the two...maybe it’s just a matter of purpose."

Elena kept silent for a moment then turned back around, returning to her position by the floor-to-ceiling window.

"Even though I can guess who your owner is...I don’t think a little monster, reeking of fish, sneaking into the top university serves any purpose."

"So, I hope that you won’t carelessly roam around this campus, which could lead to unpredictable consequences."

The witch’s voice was very cold, but it couldn’t hide her dislike:

"For example, killing a little kitten."

"Although I question your accusation," The serpent coiled itself into several knots, leaning its head forward, its tone very tame, "but I will follow your wish, ma’am."
