High School of Demon Hunting
Chapter 238 - 162: Academy_1

Chapter 238: Chapter 162: Academy_1

The First University altogether has four academies.

Every academy owns an independent territory.

For Alpha Academy, this territory is the formidable Alpha Castle. While for the Jiuyou Academy, this territory is called ’Jiuyou Academy Building Complex.’

The Academy Building Complex is a mansion.

According to ancient traditions, the layout of this mansion is very orderly.

The whole academy is divided into a front yard, a courtyard, and a back garden.

The back garden incorporates many large and small gardens.

The East Peach Garden, where the professors reside, is located in the eastern part of the back garden, hidden within a large dense forest. In order to maintain the good mood of the professors, the school strictly limits the identities of personnel entering and exiting East Peach Garden and also set a complex maze in the forest. Without the guidance of the professors, it is difficult for any student to venture deep into the garden.

The student dormitories known as West Chinese Garden, segregated by gender and neighboring each other, are situated on a steep cliff. The dormitory locations fluctuate based upon the students’ grade. It is said that the higher-grade veterans standing on their dormitory balconies can take in a grand view of more than half the academy, which the freshmen find fascinating.

Additionally, there are places like Hundred Herb Garden filled with precious herbs, Clean House for registered wizards to meditate in peace, Wild Demon Garden for breeding demon experiment subjects, Insect Garden for breeding spirit insects, and many more.

Each garden has its own unique layout. But generally, each garden has several rooms to house the maintenance staff. The gardens are separated by lush and tall bamboo, with hidden corridors available for access to each other. In most cases, without any special reasons, the multiple gardens of the back garden mostly don’t interact.

Separating the back garden and the courtyard, a library stretches across - the Book Mountain Library of Jiuyou Academy. The entire library looks like a mountain. There are side doors and corridors on either side leading to the courtyard.

Almost seven-eighths of the entire courtyard hosts a large lake. Around the lake are hundreds of thousand-year-old ancient trees, with bamboo, hills, rockeries, and platforms in the four corners. The two sides of the lake are enveloped by two deep corridors, which are connected to numerous secret spots within the school and the First University through purposely carved-out pavilions.

On the other side of Lin Zhong Lake are the academy’s three biggest buildings - the Main Teaching Building, the Office Building, and the Laboratory Building.

The three big structures are built with large slabs of stone, leaning on each other, forming a shape resembling the Chinese character ’工’.

The smaller one on the east side is the Office Building, housing the restrooms of many professors of Jiuyou Academy, the Student Union’s office, the Club Union’s gathering place, etc. The slightly taller structure on the west is the Laboratory Building of Jiuyou Academy, with a protruding roof terrace and several towering Star Towers.

The building in the center is the Main Teaching Building. This is the place where the students of Jiuyou Academy have their classes. The entire building squats securely on the central line of the academy, square and unchanged, appearing steady and solemn. From the outside, there are no distinct levels to the building. Apart from the students’ graffiti, the rough walls carry no other decorations.

Past the Main Teaching Building, the front yard of the academy awaits.

The layout there is relatively lax. The canteen, hospital, subsidiary of Wizard Union Bank, etc., as well as many other structures, are all situated there.

The tall wall encircling the academy gradually tightens up in the front yard.

Until the point of an occluding wall in front of the main gate.

From here, you can choose to enter the school’s First Hall through the side door, or attempt to push open the two dark red main doors right in front, to step into the mysterious and enigmatic Silent Forest.

That is, if and only if you don’t get smacked back by the monsters squatting on either side of the gate.

...

Zheng Qing has a History class this morning, the class is in room West 201 of the Main Teaching Building.

This is an elective class for the whole school.

Although the veterans always murmur ’ditch the elective, choose to abstain from the compulsory,’ as a freshman who has just been admitted less than a month ago, Zheng Qing doesn’t have the concept of skipping class in his mind at all.

Moreover, Teacher Sima of History class is an outstanding beauty.

More specifically, among all ten courses of Zheng Qing, only Teacher Sima pleases the eye.

Thus, even more, he will not foolishly think about ditching this class, so as to make up for the mental damage suffered in other classes.

The time now is half-past seven in the morning.

There is still one hour left until formal class hours.

However, when Zheng Qing enters the classroom, most of the students have already taken their seats and they’re waiting.

Especially those male students who normally strive to squeeze into the corners, they are surprisingly active in this class. The seats in the front few rows have already been claimed by them.

Zheng Qing grunted in his heart, and had no choice but to look for few empty seats in the back with Xiao Xiao.

The layout of this classroom doesn’t have much difference from the other classrooms in the Main Teaching Building.

The tall windows with silver curtains; at the top margin of the dark green blackboard, a group of elves in grey work clothes are smiling at the students in the classroom. At the back of the door, there is a doodle signed by MAY, but the little guy in this one is still sleeping seldomly and hasn’t felt the hustle in the classroom yet.

In the row before Zheng Qing’s seat, two students from Alpha Academy draped in white robes were nonchalantly discussing the school hunt.

"...I had a letter from home," said the round-faced man with a head of black curly hair, with a worried expression on his face: "They want me to get a rank in the freshmen’s match no matter what. Otherwise, they’ll reduce my living expenses at the school..."

"That doesn’t sound particularly challenging." The pale, almond-eyed student was carefully twiddling with his cuffs, nonchalantly replying, "Every year our academy scores pretty well in the freshman race. You must know, the majority of freshmen are not as well-mannered as us...except for those maniacs from Starry Sky Academy who are quite capable, freshmen from other academies rarely show any distinctive performance in school hunting."

Zheng Qing forcefully held back an impulse to huff on hearing their talk, and bowed down to flip open the ’Big History: World Modern History Volume’ published by Wizard Education Press.

But the sound of the conversation between two Alpha students kept entering into his ears.

"...We can’t jump to conclusions." said the round-face boy with a ’a little more consideration wouldn’t hurt’ kind of tone, "I remember that this year Jiuyou Academy also has ’that Zhang family’... They have been fighting demons since birth, they must be very formidable!"

"All’s well that at least one able competitor from the academy that can compete with us is present, right?" The other boy paid no mind and said, "What use is it if only one person is capable? You should know, a hunting team is a team that values coordination and tacit understanding. Unless someone is like Mr. Sepulano, who can defeat a group of wild demons single-handedly, otherwise, an excess in individual capability will instead disturb the entire team’s balance."

Zheng Qing lowered his head and although his eyes were still wandering on the history book, he hadn’t read a single word.

"That Zhang family guy who’s good at fighting should be Zhang Ji Xin." He thought to himself, "Although there is still some time before the official hunting match, it wouldn’t hurt to get to know the rules from him first."

"Moreover, if he’s that good, we will definitely form a hunting team with him." Zheng Qing twisted his pen with a proud grin on his face, and murmured with an elusive smile: "Who asked certain people to sign the Sale Contract..."

Next to him, Xiao Xiao looked at Zheng Qing, who was giggling silly, with weird eyes, and moved his textbook farther from him.
