Chapter 227: Chapter 151 The Two Tuition-Free Students_1
He was a robustly built fat man.
His eyebrows were thick and faint, his eyes very small, but imbued with profound depths.
Hanging from his left and right cheeks were two chunks of flesh, making his speech sound laborious.
Or rather, his speech always seemed to pack a punch.
"Persuading an enraged Fishman back to the lake is not an easy task," the corpulent wizard stated, pulling out a clean handkerchief from his pocket. He delicately wiped his palms and the crevices of his fingers, his tone insouciant.
Zheng Qing remained seated on the ground, not yet rising to his feet.
The effects of ’I’m a Dark Yellow Horse’ had not yet completely receded; he still felt as if he had just run a marathon, sluggish all over.
So he lay there, silently observing this plump wizard while stealthily reaching into his grey cloth bag, carefully rummaging through it.
"Perhaps you should say ’thank you’," the rotund wizard said, returning the handkerchief to his pocket, staring at Zheng Qing with his dark little eyes, akin to a ferocious beast on the hunt. "It would seem more polite."
Zheng Qing stretched his neck, curling the corners of his mouth, letting out a cold sneer.
"Is that necessary?" As soon as he opened his mouth, he was startled by his own voice.
Dry, rough, infused with dissipating airflow sounds.
Like a precious calligraphy brush overused with white ink, it was breathless and crumbling, impermanent.
He could almost see a blood-drained, elastic-loss vocal cord, barely vibrating with the momentum of airflow.
Swallowing hard, wetting his throat, Zheng Qing continued:
"Because of your ’help’, the salted fish turned over... theoretically speaking, you should ask it for thanks."
"If it weren’t for your ’help’, I would’ve caught that dead fish and claimed the reward."
He sharply accentuated the word ’help’.
The flabby flesh on the wizard’s cheek jiggled, seeming to appreciate Zheng Qing’s words.
"I just returned Iseni back to Lin Zhong Lake... Iseni was that Fishman you fought." The fat man’s face twisted as he explained in a casually conversational tone as if speaking to a friend, "Being a newcomer and being able to overturn a top-notch Fishman... I must admit, you are quite a surprise."
"You are more surprising." Zheng Qing retorted mercilessly: "Tonight, you are the biggest surprise."
The fat wizard interlocked his fingers, looking at Zheng Qing with an astonished expression, seemingly bewildered by his harsh words.
Hold up against the tree roots, Zheng Qing held the law book tightly, squinting his eyes as he sized up the wizard in front him.
This fat man seemed vaguely familiar, he pondered in his heart.
But with hand on heart, he was certain he had never greeted this chubby wizard at school.
Finding no answer, he decided to ask straight away.
"Speaking of manners," Zheng Qing looked at the wizard in front of him, cleared his throat, his tone filled with questions: "If you could introduce yourself before greeting or not looking down at others so condescendingly... perhaps that could be considered more polite."
The fat on the wizard’s face jiggled again.
"Ah, I’ve been impolite... I hadn’t thought of that." He lifted his robe, squatted down laboriously in front of Zheng Qing, extending his short hand towards Zheng Qing: "I thought you knew me... nice to meet you, pleased to make your acquaintance... I am Sepulano... Mike Gold Cypress Sepulano."
Zheng Qing drew in a sharp breath.
He felt as if this gasp had displaced his heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys, bringing about a cramp-like pain in his organs.
Mike Gold Cypress Sepulano.
Just as he said, it was indeed a familiar name to Zheng Qing.
In an instant, many images raced through his mind.
The wild boar wreaking havoc in the Great Ming Pavilion, the ’Curly-haired Dog’ radiating a sweet scent and talking profusely on the school’s special flight, the unnamed notes with clusters of black short hair, and the long list of titles that Xiao Xiao once recited to him.
Alpha Academy’s scholarship student, Vice Chairman of Alpha’s Student Association, one of the Gemini twins alongside Sir Friedman, the trusted arm of Lord Augustus;
He individually founded the ’Auspicious Hunting Team’, ranked seventeenth among all university rankings, and established his own club, ’Auspicious Club’.
Any one of these achievements could thoroughly best Zheng Qing.
Zheng Qing once considered privately that the only thing he could contend with was the status of a scholarship student.
But a second-year scholarship student and a first-year one, within the first university, were two completely different concepts.
The ancients said, petty cleverness could lead to unimpressive maturity.
In the first university, there are many scholarship students who end up being just like everyone else. Only those who remain scholarship students from beginning to end are recognized as true scholarship students by the public.
Perhaps because the world had been silent for too long in the woods.
The golden bells, oil gourds, and other types of insects in the grass began to test their voices again.
Zheng Qing turned his face and looked at the moon slowly sinking in the west, sighing with bitter laughter.
"What an unforgettable encounter," his voice was breathless.
"You look pale," Sepulano straightened up again, looking at Zheng Qing with concern in his voice.
"A long day," Zheng Qing was gasping for air. The hard amulet in his palm brought him much comfort.
"It seems that you really didn’t know me before," a trace of dissatisfaction flickered on Sepulano’s face, "I thought you would care more about your safety after what you’ve done."
"I thought this was the first university," Zheng Qing honestly conceded, "I thought it was safe."
"Interesting thought," Sepulano offered a brief assessment.
Another mysterious silence fell between the two.
"I wonder if you’ve ever experienced this," Sepulano spoke again after a long while:
"Sometimes, something you’ve longed for happens right before you, but the satisfaction it brings is far less than your expectations."
"Then you shouldn’t have let it happen," Zheng Qing’s eyes flickered rapidly at his words.
"So, you’ve got the Merlin Medal now?" Sepulano chuckled, a tired smile pulling at his chubby cheeks, "Because you suppressed a wild demon in the Great Ming Pavilion?"
"What Merlin Medal?" Zheng Qing was a little puzzled, but for safety’s sake, he tried to explain, "I didn’t suppress it. It just fell asleep."
"Of course I know you didn’t suppress it! Could a fool who hasn’t even gone to middle school, let alone been admitted to university, suppress my brother with just a few second-rate talismans?" Sepulano suddenly erupted in anger, roaring, "Didn’t he fall in front of you?"
Zheng Qing was suddenly at a loss for words.
"Are you planning to just reprimand me like this?" He tightened his grip on the amulet in his hand.
"Indeed foolish," Sepulano suddenly calmed down again, "Though brave."
"There will be a school-sponsored hunting party next month. You will attend," he stated matter-of-factly, "And I’ll set up a bet."
"If the hunting team you lead wins the rookie competition but fails to defeat the Demon King, our feud can be cleared."
"Knowing which middle school you attended, I can also know more."
"I hope you won’t act as foolishly as you are now."
Zheng Qing gritted his teeth and remained silent.
