Chapter 191: Chapter 115 Hilda Tang Alfanso_1

Unlike other officially scheduled courses, the demands on a practicum course instructor are not so stringent.

For instance, a practicum teacher does not need to possess a very prominent specialized academic background, does not need to be proficient in more than three foreign languages, does not need to have more than five years of teaching experience at a higher education institute, and does not need to have directed a large-scale experiment filed with the Wizard Alliance, or the experience of publishing scholarly articles in the highest impact factor journals.

The First University only has two requirements for a practicum teacher: first, to have a registered wizard rank; and second, to possess more than three years of experience in demon hunting (priority will be given to those with experience in hunting teams).

For many young and inexperienced teaching assistants at the First University, there is no better class for them to display their abilities than practicum.

But the situation was different for Mr. Hilda.

Hilda Tang Alfanso was a common member of the teaching assistants group at the First University.

Although he graduated from the Alpha Academy less than five years ago, Hilda has had nearly a decade of experience hunting monsters.

At the age of fifteen, he was allowed to enter the family’s hunting grounds; at eighteen, after coming to the First University, he plunged into the various hunting grounds of Alpha; until now, nearly a decade of hunting experience allows him to confidently assure the deans that he can handle the various hunting matters arranged by the faculty conference.

His dream was to lead a hunting team and wander the free new world, rather than spending his time stagnant in the confines of the university.

Yes, for a young registered wizard, the campus of the First University was simply too small, too narrow.

So small that one could not even take a leisurely stroll around the island; so small that the same few familiar faces come into view day and night, leaving people feeling utterly wearied; so small that there was no room for evasive manoeuvres, to freely carry out some interesting small experiments.

But being a member of the famous wizard family Alfanso, Hilda Tang Alfanso has never had much chance to make decisions from an early age.

At the age of five, his grandfather personally taught him how to clean a crucible, how to master the fire, and how to make painkillers; he had no choice but to obediently accept the teachings of an old wizard.

At the age of ten, his mother started making him recite the history of the Alfanso family, requiring him to remember the strange patterns and grudges from eight generations back; he had no other choice but to honestly accept the history of a wizard’s family.

At the age of fifteen, his father threw him into the family’s hunting grounds and forced him to struggle between life and death; he had no room for choice, everything was in order to survive.

At the age of twenty, he was an outstanding public expense student at the First University and held a significant role in the school’s hunting team. However, he had no say when facing an invitation from the Blood Comrades. Reluctantly, he had to carry on the family honor.

Up until now, having graduated five years ago, Hilda still hasn’t had many opportunities to make his own choices.

Although he dreamed of leading a hunting team and making a name for himself in the new world, in reality, he could only stay quietly at the First University and serve as a humble assistant on the staff roll of the First University.

"This university is nothing more than a dead pond." he complained to his colleagues more than once: "There is no hope, no future, no freedom. For an Alpha person, is there anything more terrifying than losing freedom?"

"Yes, there is." Assistant Hilda stood in the Green Valley, watching the audacious first-year students in the distance who took no notice of him at all, and spoke to himself in a low voice:

"Something more terrifying than losing freedom is not having any choice at all."

He raised his head, gazed at those lazy young wizards resting under the bamboo grove, and took a deep breath.

"All of you, come down here!" he shouted at the top of his lungs: "Class is starting!"

"Ninth Grade Astronomy Class 08-1 of Jiuyou Academy, Alchemy Class 08-1 of Alpha Academy, you brats, get down here quickly!"

The weather was exceptionally clear.

In the deep blue sky, only a few thin clouds scattered here and there.

The tail end of the summer seemed to be clothed in actual cactus spikes, causing one’s skin to have a prickling sensation.

Due to the outdoor class, there was no bell. Hence, Zheng Qing and others remained in the shade of the purple bamboo grove, hiding from the scorching rays of the sun.

Upon hearing the exaggerated greeting from the practicum teacher, the freshmen of the Astronomy 08-1 Class sighed dejectedly. Rising in small groups, they trod on the soft lawn and advanced in loose procession towards the small sports field at the bottom of the hill.

Meanwhile, on the small hill opposite, the white-robed students in the Alchemy 08-1 Class jogged orderly in a line towards the lone figure standing on the sports field.

"That group of sanctimonious men!" Duan Xiao Jian gnashed his teeth in anger from behind Zheng Qing: "They’re always parroting about how destiny is determined by talent and that the future is carved by the family, but when they encounter an opportunity to show off, they run the fastest."

"You’re just upset you don’t have the guts to show off," the Xin Fat Man dismissively jeered: "You’re only too lacking in backbone."

Zheng Qing narrowed his eyes and eyed the white-robed figures but did not speak.

As mandatory courses for the entire school, in addition to the special timetable for first-year students—almost all practicum classes are scheduled on Friday afternoon—the teaching staff were somewhat strained. Consequently, the classes were merged into a larger one.

Each practicum course instructor teaches two classes at the same time.

For example, the class Zheng Qing was in, Ninth-Grade Astronomy Class 08-1 of Jiuyou Academy, was combined with the new students from the Alchemy 08-1 Class of Alpha Academy, and both were assigned to the same assistant.

Zheng Qing was quite familiar with the assistant’s face as well.

Hilda was one of the members of the First University’s Guard Team.

When Nikita was wreaking havoc in the plane’s restaurant, Assistant Hilda was one of those who stood by the students’ side.

Even though nearly half a month had passed since then, Zheng Qing still clearly remembers the cynical voice and unique punk-style appearance from behind the bar.

"Good day, teacher!"

The new students in red and white robes lined orderly on each side of Hilda, bowing in salute together.

"Everyone, please rise." Hilda replied solemnly, with a serious expression.

Zheng Qing stumbled a bit, then stood helplessly straight up with a bewildered expression.

What on earth does "Everyone, please rise" mean?

Is he making fun of us?

This is a joke, right?

Damit! Our practicum teacher, he is messing with us!

Zheng Qing forced a smile on his face, looking at the solemn Assistant Hilda in front of him, he couldn’t help but grumble inwardly.

"Students, do you have affairs to report, or can we begin our match?" The teasing Assistant Hilda continued in a grave tone, completely ignoring the puzzled faces below him.

"Sir, sir!" Li Meng raised her hand energetically and cheered, "I have affairs to report!"

"Very well," the teasing assistant waved his hand, with a pleased look on his face, and said, "You may speak now."
