Chapter 1438: Chapter 185: The 2nd Prisoner

"The law treats Demons equally, but that does not mean Black Prison will do the same."

"We all know that different Demons are born for different reasons... Some are born as Demons, some are corrupted after being attacked by Demons, some foolishly try to break through their spiritual shackles by relying on the erosion of Demons, and still others are infected by demonic energy during their prolonged battles with Demons."

"For different Demons, Black Prison treats them differently."

"Those who fell from grace in the line of duty, or the innocents harmed by Demons, are imprisoned in cells within Black Prison Castle. In these cells, they receive limited food and a peaceful environment, where they can touch a glimmer of light... perhaps, at some point in the future, they might break free from this mad state and be reborn."

"Native-born Demons, those listed in arrest warrants, and those captured by the Hunting Team are thrown outside the castle. In that desolate Hell, they struggle and wait for death."

"In the world of Black Prison, the most terrifying Criminal Law is not being captured by the Wizards for experiments, or being locked in a dark room."

"After all, being an experiment still employs the concept of ’being alive’, even if life is worse than death; being locked in a dark room, although pitch-black, one can still find boundaries in the darkness, and touching those walls, the spirit finds a foothold, and the Soul feels a strange safety."

"The truly horrifying punishment is being thrown into that pitch-black world outside."

"In that world, where only darkness and despair thrive. Stretching your arms out to blindly grasp the void for anything, the ground beneath also becomes soft. If you don’t have a strong enough anchor to secure your spirit, over time you’ll lose not just your sense of direction, but also something called ’sanity’."

Zhang Yu was explaining all these aspects of Black Prison while leading the Kunpeng Hunting Team deeper into the depths of Black Prison Castle. The staircase kept descending, the surrounding air grew colder, and everyone instinctively wrapped their Cloaks tighter around themselves.

Little Witch Mai Dong clung to Zhang Boren’s chest, only her eyes showing, eagerly observing the dull and oppressive walls, cells, and jail doors around her.

Then she spotted a beautiful ’neon light’ flickering at a jail door’s vent.

"There!"

She poked the captain’s arm with her finger, signaling him to move closer towards the direction of the ’neon light’.

Zhang Boren sneaked a glance at the Warlock leading the way and subtly shifted his path toward that jail door. The tall Witch walking behind the two gave her team leader a fierce glare but ultimately kept quiet.

Through the jail door’s window, Mai Dong could clearly see what the ’neon light’ actually was.

It was a completely Fallen Demon, barely bearing any marks of a Wizard, only vaguely maintaining a sort of ’humanoid’ shape. It was nearly two meters long, with a shelled body, glowing dimly pink in the dark cell. It had a pair of bat wings—or perhaps they were more like dorsal fins or membraned wings—on its back, and multiple jointed limbs grew from its abdomen.

What Mai Dong saw as ’neon lights’ belonged to the head of this Demon.

Its head—or the area that purportedly served as the head—was an oval pocked with folds, with numerous very short tentacles topped by ovoid lumps in vortex shapes that emitted light. Clustered together, they resembled the compound eyes of a fly, twinkling with dazzling light spots.

Mesmerized, Mai Dong’s little head involuntarily popped out from the captain’s cloak, leaning forward to observe those colorful light spots.

The light spots seemed to notice the Little Witch’s gaze, flickering even more frequently.

Bang!

A loud crash shattered the tranquility of the castle; behind the thick Magic Barrier, the fearsome figure of the Demon slammed hard against the jail door, its limbs flickering with a cold shimmer stretching out through the gaps toward the Little Witch.

Buzzing!!!

Along with the flickering of those light spots, the Demon’s tentacles frantically vibrated, emitting an unclear sound, akin to the tremor of rubbing Tuning forks, metallic in nature with a tinge of stickiness.

Zhang Boren was startled, taking a quick step back.

It wasn’t just him; including the Teaching assistant Zhang Yu, and the other three Hunters of the Kunpeng Hunting Team, every one of them was startled by the Demon’s sudden outburst. The Hunters instinctively formed a defensive battle formation, gorgeous magical lights glowing beneath the cloaks of the younger Hunters, while the Dwarf had already shouldered his Multi-tube talisman gun.

The standoff lasted for over ten seconds.

"Back off! Back off!"

Accompanied by the noisy footsteps, several prison guards came rushing from both directions along the corridor, signaling the guests to move away from that cell door. They dragged long black magic wands, the tips wrapped with brass decorations.

"One warning!"

The prison guards struck the cell door forcefully with their magic wands, producing a loud clanging sound. Zhang Boren noticed that the prisoners, who were previously watching the commotion from other cell doors, quickly retreated deeper into their cells upon hearing this noise.

But the red-shelled demon not only didn’t retreat but extended its limbs even further out.

"I buzz buzz buzz... buzz buzz buzz..."

Its muffled voice sounded like two crazily swirling tuning forks, making it difficult to discern what it was trying to convey: "Go buzz buzz buzz... squeak buzz buzz buzz... Go..."

"This is a mutated Mi-go," Zhu Ling quietly explained to her team leader: "A Fallen that can survive in outer space and has a fondness for collecting the brains of wizards. Ordinary Mi-gos are not high in tier, but this mutated Mi-go... hard to judge."

"Second warning!!"

The metallic tips of the wands in the hands of the prison guards suddenly burst with blue and white electric light, emitting a crackling sound.

The Mi-go clearly understood the power of the electric light, as the oval head’s flashing spots violently changed from red and yellow to fearful blue and green, and its tentacles clearly retreated.

But its claws still clung desperately to the bars of the cell door, causing a severe contradiction between its body and consciousness.

"Go buzz buzz buzz...!!" The metal tremor of colliding tuning forks grew increasingly intense.

"Third warning!!"

The prison guards, expressionless, unhesitatingly thrust the electrically flashing metallic tips into the cell.

The blue electric light illuminated the entire cell.

The crackling explosion intertwined with the agonized howls of the Mi-go, silencing the entire corridor and cells. The young hunters of Kunpeng Hunting Team stood with blank faces, staring blankly at the scene.

In the New World, they had seen even more tragic situations than this.

The electric light raged, and in just a moment, a rich smell of cooked meat emanated from within the cell. It smelled like cooked prawns.

The claws of the Mi-go were still clamped onto the bars of the cell door.

The buzzing sound also weakened considerably: "Go buzz... squeak buzz..."

Huff!

A tall figure appeared at the cell door with the sound of wind.

"What’s going on?"

He asked sternly, "What caused the disturbance!"
