Chapter 1398: Chapter 145 Enchantment (Part 2)
Su Shijun left the leather chair behind her desk and approached Gouzi.
The Law book with its aqua-colored cover floated beside her, several finger-width beams of light flowed out from it, landed on the floor, curled upwards, and splashed several patterns of aqua flowers clustering around Gouzi.
Zheng Qing faintly sensed that these aqua flowers were reinforcing the structure of the space.
Gouzi trembled its ears slightly—it was one of the few parts it could still move—its head slightly retracted backward, timidly glancing at Zheng Qing.
It’s just a check, the young cost student muttered to himself in his mind, not knowing why but feeling somewhat guilty looking into Gouzi’s eyes.
"Now it’s confirmed, it bears no hostility toward you."
Su Shijun’s voice rang close to the boy’s ear, sounding very confident, "Dogs and foxes, within a certain large range, belong to the same family... just like Wizards and Duoni People, distant but not affecting a simple mutual understanding. Su Ya..."
"Yes, miss!" The Little fox lady, who was squatting nearby staring blankly at Gouzi, heard her own name, reflexively stood up and shouted, startling the Warlock.
However, Su Shijun was used to the little maid’s quirky behavior, she raised her hand in a gentle gesture indicating that there’s no task for her and to keep quiet. The Little fox lady sighed in relief, squatted down again, and continued staring at Gouzi.
"...This Gouzi previously did not avoid her, perhaps because it mistook Su Ya as its ’distant relative’, also a member of the canine family among Magical Creatures."
Zheng Qing felt wholly convinced by this explanation.
"So why does it avoid..." Zheng Qing carefully chose his words, ultimately not daring to utter the last few words, just quietly glanced at Su Shijun.
Being of the Fox race, it doesn’t make sense for Gouzi to be so selective.
Su Shijun noticing the Warlock’s unspoken implication, smiled, "Just like Commoners and Witches belong to different worlds of civilization, a Big Wizard and an Ordinary Wizard, or a Big Wizard and an ordinary Magical Creature, also have huge differences... This difference is so clear that it can be considered as life from two different worlds. What it’s avoiding is not me, but the hierarchy."
As she spoke, the Witch stood sideways slightly in front of Zheng Qing.
The evening sun poured in from the window, scattering light across the floor. Her loose bat-wing shirt seemed like flowing water, weaving a rhythm of light and shadow.
The boy watched her profile—an unusual angle—it was as delicate and enchanting as her front view; but unlike the frontal view, observing from the side doesn’t risk sudden eye contact with the Witch, allowing the boy to be a bit more daring in his gaze.
He noted the gem-like droplet of aquamarine hanging from her earlobe, and also observed the subtle linen-yellow tinge appearing in her originally black hair strands under the sunset’s afterglow.
Only when the droplet and the linen-yellow hue shrank increasingly smaller in the Warlock’s view did he suddenly snap back to reality.
Su Shijun had somehow used magic to shrink herself until her height was about the same size as the crouching Gouzi. This made Gouzi’s originally cowering gaze fade substantially.
Zheng Qing clumsily stepped back a bit, careful not to accidentally step on the Witch.
Su Ya, similar to Gouzi’s reaction, stood with her mouth slightly open, a face full of surprise.
"Meow~" Gouzi carefully whimpered.
Su Shijun walked forward a few steps, raised her hand to Gouzi’s ear, and scratched it, causing it to comfortably squint its eyes. But when the Witch tried to pluck a few dog hairs, her fingers easily passed through its body.
"Interesting," the Witch chuckled lightly, the Law book that was always floating behind her suddenly burst into a brilliant starlight: "Sprinkle on star three, first tomb sheep and bull! (Note①)"
This Spell was odd and awkward in pronunciation, yet it gave Zheng Qing a strong sense of familiarity, as though he had seen it somewhere before.
Starlight fell on Gouzi, rippling a faint layer. When Su Shijun reached out toward Gouzi’s neck fur again, this time her fingers finally grasped something tangible.
The Witch grabbed a tuft of neck fur with one hand and with the other pulled out a pair of tiny scissors from the void, snipping lightly. Then, effortlessly tossing the scissors back into the void, she pulled out a syringe.
The cold gleam of the needle had just touched Gouzi’s skin when it cried out with a ’meow,’ whimpering softly.
The liveliness in Gouzi’s eyes suddenly vanished, overtaken by darkness. Then, the starlight enveloping it started to fluctuate violently.
"Crack."
Like the sound of a mirror shattering.
It all happened in the blink of an eye.
Gouzi, originally restrained by the Binding Spell and those green flowers, disappeared without a trace. The evening breeze swept through the cracks of the window over the floor, and Su Shijun’s figure elongated in the wind, quickly returning to its original size.
"Huh?" She let out a soft exclamation.
Zheng Qing took a small step forward.
The Witch opened her palm to show him. The tuft of neck fur she had clipped from the dog’s neck seconds ago was rapidly fading and vanishing until it finally turned into a shadow that dissipated in the breeze.
During this process, various colors of magic light surged from the Law book floating next to Su Shijun, but to no avail.
"Interesting."
A fighting spirit gleamed in the Witch’s eyes. She adjusted her glasses, then paused and turned to glance at Zheng Qing, "I’m thinking of taking off my glasses... Do you want to step outside for a bit?"
"It’s okay, I can handle it." Zheng Qing replied uncertainly—no boy would choose to step out at such a moment. How is that different from blinding oneself?
The corners of the Witch’s mouth curved in a silent smile as she took off her glasses.
Zheng Qing was sure that people could indeed glow.
He held his breath, squinting slightly, daring not to move as if standing in a room surrounded by delicate glass ornaments, where a slight movement could shatter the beauty of this world.
"Wow." Su Ya gazed up at her mistress, her eyes sparkling, her fluffy ears peeking through her hair then flopping down softly; her large tail hung from under her skirt to the floor, refusing to move again, utterly devoid of its former vitality.
Zheng Qing felt a slight dizziness.
Like the way one feels when anxious and short of breath. But he wasn’t sure whether this reaction was due to holding his breath too long or some other reason.
"It follows you because it likes certain qualities you possess. And me, well, I was born to be loved," the Witch’s crisp voice sounded next to Zheng Qing’s ear, although her words made little sense. "Me, plus you, luring that little dog, couldn’t be easier."
Zheng Qing never thought that witnessing Su Shijun unleashing her full charm for the first time would be to catch a small dog.
But he had to admit, her method was effective.
Just a few seconds later.
The dusty figure reappeared in front of the two witches, sitting in front of the Witch, its dog face wearing a pleasing smile, its tail wagging like a windmill. It had completely forgotten its previous ordeal of being restrained.
Su Shijun turned back, proudly tilting her chin at the boy.
Though she was very beautiful.
Still, Zheng Qing really felt like smashing something...
