Chapter 1393: Chapter 140: Eye Disease
The entire Monday, from the moment he opened his eyes in the morning, through the morning classes, to the Curse Course in the forenoon and the Talisman class in the afternoon, Zheng Qing spent the whole day in a battle of wits and bravery with the clever dog under the Cat Fruit Tree.
And Zheng Qing found that the dog was becoming smarter and smarter—it had learned to avoid the sight of others as much as possible, tormenting only him. Without causing a ruckus, it was like a plaster on his body, or a shadow.
Zheng Qing felt like he finally understood the origin of the term ’plaster.’
But, at the thought of a shadow, the young cost student suddenly realized he had another suitable consultant besides Old Yao—a Big Wizard who had once cut off his shadow.
Compared to Old Yao’s true identity, Su Shijun, hailing from the Moon Council, could be considered ’clear-headed’ and ’reliable.’ Moreover, given the subtle relationship between her and Zheng Qing, the Warlock could discuss some sensitive topics with her at his discretion, without feeling as restrained as he did in front of other professors.
Zheng Qing had not overlooked Sister Korma. However, on one hand, Korma was only recently promoted, and she had been just a fourth-year student before then; the Warlock doubted how much help she could provide regarding the dog issue. On the other hand, the attacks he encountered on consecutive weekends in the North District in the past few weeks had cast a real shadow over that area for Zheng Qing.
Safety first.
After parting with Xiao Xiao in front of the library, the young cost student dashed to Su Shijun’s Office.
It was in the afternoon, and most staff members of the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab had finished their day’s work and were gathered for a pre-departure summary meeting. Heading the meeting was Miss Su Man, Su Shijun’s Head Maid. Zheng Qing noticed Su Ya was also sitting aside as an observer.
This gave him the urge to complain—just by looking at Su Ya’s droopy tail and ears and her sleepy demeanor, one could tell such meetings were pure torture for her. He wondered why Su Shijun would arrange for her to partake in this.
Upon seeing Zheng Qing’s figure, Su Man gestured with her hand, "Miss is in the Office."
Suddenly energized, the previously drowsy Su Ya sprang into action, her floppy little ears suddenly erecting from amongst her hair, and her furry tail consciously retracting under her skirt.
"I’ll lead the way for you!" She hopped off the chair, enthusiastically yelling at the Warlock, trying to escape the tedious meeting at hand.
Su Man quickly grabbed her by the head.
"No one is going to get lost here." The Head Maid rubbed Su Ya’s head as a warning to behave. The little maid’s ears that had just been perked up wilted again, hanging in her fluffy hair.
Zheng Qing was initially smiling at all this, but the corner of his eye suddenly caught a glimpse of Gouzi, the dusty dog, stealthily sticking out its tongue and wagging its tail at him from behind a stone pedestal under a large light globe.
The Warlock’s complexion turned as grey as the little maid’s.
"Got it... Thank you." He hastily responded to the Head Maid’s words, eager to head towards Su Shijun’s Office. As he took a step, he glanced back at the stone pedestal, and unsurprisingly, Gouzi had already vanished without a trace.
For a moment, Zheng Qing even began to doubt whether there was really something wrong with his eyes.
Su Shijun’s Office wasn’t far from the front hall where the researchers were holding their meeting.
When Zheng Qing pushed the door and entered, the big boss of the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab was lounging with her legs propped up on the desk, barefoot, revealing a stretch of fair thigh. The sunlight was soft and tender, falling on her, showing an intoxicating color.
The Warlock blinked, following the stretch of thigh upwards, only to see the Witch with her collar loosened, her hair spread out, lying on the leather chair without any decorum, hugging a can of soda and popcorn, munching away gleefully.
Her ears, one size larger than Su Ya’s, drooped outside her hair, and a tail three times larger than Su Ya’s spread on the armrest like a furry cushion.
The breeze in the corridor made its way merrily through the open door and took a spin on the armrest of a chair. The tip of Su Shijun’s tail swayed with the wind, and Zheng Qing was inexplicably reminded of the foxtail grass on the prairies in autumn.
He really had a fateful connection with dogs, the Wizard thought to himself at the bottom of his heart.
The two stared at each other in silence for a second.
There was still a bit of popcorn residue left on the corner of Su Shijun’s mouth.
Zheng Qing slipped out the door soundlessly.
Thoughtfully, he closed the door.
His own eyes must have a problem, the young state-funded student pondered anxiously, wondering where on Pedestrian Street he could buy some good quality Potion for the eyes.
After a brief pause, he finally remembered the purpose of his visit and gently knocked on the door.
"Come in." A pleasant yet authoritative voice sounded from behind the door.
Zheng Qing carefully pushed open the door and entered.
The scene inside the room was completely different from a few seconds ago - the furry tails that were on the armrest of the leather chair had disappeared, the Witch’s disheveled hair had now become smooth and shiny, and her two fuzzy ears, as usual, were hidden in her hair bun, inconspicuous.
The bare feet and the section of pale thigh that had been visible were now concealed behind the desk, depriving onlookers of the view. The soda had vanished, and so had the popcorn. Su Shijun sat upright at her office desk, holding a report in one hand and a Feather Pen in the other, the tip of it brushing back and forth against her fair cheek.
Even the sunlight in the room seemed cleaner and crisper than before.
Upon seeing the Warlock enter, the master of the lab cast a stern glance at him:
"Hmm?! Is there something you need?!"
Zheng Qing nodded, scanning over the Witch. She was wearing a dark red batwing blouse today, the wide, arc-shaped neckline revealing her beautiful collarbone, which shone brightly, intimidating anyone from looking directly at it, as if one more glance would ruin her, or reveal the filthy thoughts deep within one’s own heart.
The Warlock shifted his gaze upward.
Fortunately for him, Su Shijun, like always, had on those large red-framed glasses. It was said that those glasses could greatly conceal a Witch’s or Wizard’s charm and decrease their presence - which was exactly what the Warlock needed most.
"I just... came to see how things were," the Warlock averted the Witch’s stern gaze and quietly complimented, "Your clothes today are really pretty."
"Thank you." The Witch still maintained a stern face, her voice revealing little pleasure: "Although I know you’re quite dumb, I still want to correct you - is it the clothes that are pretty?"
Zheng Qing finally mustered the courage to take a good look at the batwing blouse for a few moments before asking with some uncertainty, "Is it the color of the clothes?"
A cold breeze swept over from behind him, and with a ’bang’, the office door was closed forcefully.
The temperature in the room suddenly dropped quite a bit.
Although it was summer, Zheng Qing still felt enveloped in a chill.
