Chapter 1315: Chapter 62 Trident Sword Inquiry Record
"What’s this?"
"Two black wizards."
"I know... I mean, how did you manage to capture two black wizards?"
"They tried to rob me."
"Rob you? Where? At First University?"
"Outside the school... Why so many questions? Why not just throw them straight into Black Prison?" Zheng Qing replied with some impatience—he had expended a great deal of energy during the previous battle and was very much in need of rest—the Little White Cat in his arms stretched out a paw and patted the warlock’s arm, signaling him to calm down.
Zheng Qing heaved a deep sigh.
This was Trident Sword’s enforcement agency in Beta Town.
After the brief yet fierce battle, the Mystery Drug on Zheng Qing’s body had inexplicably worn off—he attributed it to the poor quality of the drug—and Little White Cat had not yet returned to its original form.
Facing the two black wizards firmly tied up and unconscious, Zheng Qing only hesitated for a few seconds before deciding to hand them over to Trident Sword instead of the school.
But he clearly underestimated the caution and complex procedures ’formal law enforcement agencies’ exercised when dealing with such matters. After handing over the black wizards to Trident Sword, he was brought into this office and began answering all sorts of tedious questions.
It had already gone on for over half an hour.
This gradually eroded the already scarce patience of the young man. He had thought this matter was simple—catch the bad guys, hand them over to the station, explain the situation, and leave—but the existence of magic, while simplifying many things, also complicated many others.
For example, Trident Sword’s staff needed to employ certain mild methods to ensure he wasn’t lying, they needed to verify that the spells he used during the battle didn’t break any regulations, and they had to use Divination Skills to determine the identities of the two black wizards as well as dispatch investigators to cross-examine the scene.
All of this took time.
The Trident Sword investigator sitting behind the desk glanced at the Little White Cat in the warlock’s arms and pushed the teacup towards him, "Have some tea, have some tea... Young man, don’t be so hasty. This is all part of the rules. Besides, just two ordinary black wizards don’t qualify for Black Prison."
Damn these rules.
Zheng Qing muttered to himself inwardly, picked up the white porcelain teacup, blew on it, took a sip of the clear tea, and then, with patience, continued to answer the various monotonous questions on the questionnaire in front of him.
"You mentioned earlier that you’re a student at First University, why are you wearing a grey robe?"
"It’s more low-profile in the North District."
"You said you’re a freshman?"
"Jiuyou Academy, Astronomy Class 08-1, Zheng Qing, the Qing of Zheng in ’shelter’, the Qing of Three Pure Deities."
"Hmm... A freshman managed to defeat two black wizards? Quite impressive..."
"I’m a state-supported student and have even won the Merlin Medal." Zheng Qing’s replies were dry, and he unexpectedly realized that he no longer felt the unease and embarrassment that used to accompany such slightly boastful remarks.
"Impressive, truly impressive... I remember you said earlier that you defeated these two black wizards with a Charm Gun, do you have a gun license?"
A gun license for a Charm Gun? Zheng Qing had never heard of such a thing.
As he pondered how to answer this question, the door of the office creaked open. A round-faced witch holding a large cardboard box walked in, with the Trident Sword emblem also hanging from her chest.
"This is the loot found in the spatial bags of those two black wizards by the field investigator, sign here, I’m going to put them into the storage." The witch plopped the large cardboard box down in front of the interviewer.
Zheng Qing noticed on top of the box a familiar-looking women’s grey long robe.
"Those things won’t be returned to the victims?" he couldn’t help but ask.
"According to the rules, these stolen goods must be confiscated," replied the round-faced witch patiently, turning her head back, "...If a victim submits a claim and after verification, their property can be returned to them."
"Hold on, those aren’t stolen goods, those are my things!" Zheng Qing watched as the investigator from Trident Sword was about to take away Jiang Yu’s amulet, robe, law book, and everything else and immediately voiced a reminder.
"Your things?" The investigator glanced at the robe, then turned to look at the warlock beside him, his tone uncertain, "Women’s clothing? Hmm, really now... my apologies, my apologies."
My apologies my ass! (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
Zheng Qing almost slammed the teacup in his hand onto the investigator’s plump, round face.
"There’s nothing to make a fuss over... It’s understandable with young people," the investigator spoke with an air of having been there before, patting the young sponsored student on the shoulder, "It’s the age for having fun."
"That’s not mine, it’s hers!" Zheng Qing forced out a slightly twisted smile on his face, raising the Little White Cat in his hands, "I was out shopping with her..."
The investigator from Trident Sword shot a quick glance at the Little White Cat’s tail.
The Little White Cat glared back fiercely, letting out a threatening growl from her throat.
"Hmm... a witch using transformation? Is she registered with the Mage Alliance?" The investigator quickly regained his serious demeanor and continued questioning with a feather pen in hand.
"Young people nowadays really play hard," Zheng Qing faintly overheard someone whispering something in another corner of the office.
He felt the smile on his face stiffening by the second.
"Bang!"
The office door was once again forcefully pushed open.
The investigator behind the desk looked up annoyed and peered at the newcomer.
"You are free to go," a familiar voice rang in Zheng Qing’s ear, and turning his head, he saw it was Andrew, a short and fat wizard from Trident Sword whom he had dealt with several times before.
"They haven’t completed their interview records yet," protested the investigator behind the desk.
"There is a witness who provided valid testimony, confirming their statements," Andrew, who had just entered, didn’t beat around the bush, tossing a dossier onto the desk.
The investigator picked up the dossier, glanced over it, and then looked up in surprise at Zheng Qing.
"Well, then, you may return to school first... If you think of any other details, feel free to tell us at any time," said the investigator, his displeased expression quickly turning into a beaming smile.
As he spoke, he signaled to the round-faced witch, "Tidy up this student’s belongings, return them... We can’t have a hero who defeated a Black Wizard spill blood, sweat, and tears, right... hahaha."
In the meantime, he eagerly popped out from behind the desk, going through every item in the box and asking Zheng Qing and the Little White Cat to identify them — completely avoiding the matters of the gun permit and illegal transformation. In the end, he even stuffed several Distress Talismans into Zheng Qing’s hands, claiming that if he encountered danger, he could always get help from Trident Sword, a privilege available to every wizard.
Zheng Qing skeptically took the pile of items and left Trident Sword’s office in a daze.
Behind him,
The office remained.
The round-faced witch glanced at the dossier that Andrew had previously handed to the investigator, exclaiming with a tone of awe, "It’s a certificate issued by a Big Wizard... Do all the sponsored students nowadays have such clout?"
"Not just one, but two," the investigator pointed to a series of thin signatures at the end of the dossier and a cat paw print, thinking back to the casual conversation they had before, his face could hardly conceal his unease, "...Do you think, he might file a complaint against us?"
"It’s hard to say. After all, you do talk a lot of nonsense."
"Maybe we can send him a silk banner, acknowledging ’A Warm-Hearted Citizen’s Contribution to Maintaining Social Harmony’?" The investigator wrung his fingers, pacing back and forth behind the desk, "If he gets the banner, he wouldn’t bad-mouth us anymore, right?"
