Chapter 1259: Chapter 6 Visitors
Last September, on the first day of school, Zheng Qing and his companions had a fight with Arthur·Ness from Alpha Academy on Beta Town Pedestrian Street.
Then, they received a ’red notice’ from the school and had to accept a six-month mandatory labor punishment.
Most of the troubles Zheng Qing had caused over the past year, at the end of the day, were blamed on that punishment. So, he was very sensitive about this matter. Honestly, he felt that his conflict with Arthur·Ness was, at most, a slight obstruction of traffic, not even ripping a few clothes apart. When compared to Lei Zhe or Augustus’ situations, it was truly trivial.
So upon hearing Xin Fat Man’s analysis, the young scholarship student immediately recalled his experience from the previous year and felt it was unfair, "Why is it that when they fight, it’s handled by Beta Town, but when we fight, it’s handled by the school?"
"Because they are the leaders of the Blood Comrades and Sacred Will," the fat man replied, his voice sounding as if it came from his nose, "There’s nothing new under the sun. Powerful people always get treated better than ordinary people... perhaps that’s just life."
His last sentence was said with quite a sigh.
But this did not comfort the young scholarship student’s hurt feelings.
However, Doctor Xiao’s analysis, based on reason and reality, was more persuasive.
"These things are inherently ambiguous, and the school has the discretion," Xiao Xiao proposed from a very practical perspective:
"Last year, when we were being punished, we were freshmen, and we hadn’t even entered the school gate when the incident happened. If the school had not handled it, it might have sent a wrong signal to other newcomers... From a management perspective, dealing with us strictly and swiftly has ’no drawbacks’ for the school."
He emphasized the last four words very clearly.
"I didn’t expect you to have studied management too," Zheng Qing teased him on another point in his speech.
Xiao Xiao didn’t respond to him, continuing, "...and yesterday, the ones who destroyed half a street were nominally two students, but in actuality, they were two student organizations, and furthermore, the two strongest, most influential organizations in First University—these two student organizations have many high-tier wizard alumni in the wizard world and many excellent student members within the school. Dealing with them harshly would have ’no benefits’ for the school. Moreover, it might even provoke greater chaos."
"Right now, for the school, there is nothing more important than stability."
Zheng Qing deeply understood this.
From the Silent Forest’s resurgence, to his hearing with Sepulano, from the Fishman Tribe’s uproar to the Horseman Tribe’s protests, and even including last year’s hastily concluded winter hunt and the school’s low-key response after he blew up the Silent Forest, all these events clearly illustrated this point.
The school now very, very much needed stability.
"...according to my view, although the school handed over the post-incident jurisdiction to Beta Town, it doesn’t mean the school won’t take any action. It only means the school will not pursue those young wizards for serious criminal offenses like ’illegal use of spells,’ ’attempted murder,’ ’personal injury,’ ’fire and property damage,’ and the like."
Xiao Xiao turned around, took one last look at the gradually blurring figures in the distance, and said softly, "Unless something unexpected happens, Lei Zhe, Augustus, and all the wizards involved in the fight will still receive varying degrees of punishment... from warnings to school probation. But no one will be expelled or handed over to Danghag."
"First University has always been very cautious about the Mage Alliance exploiting incidents to exert influence," Xin Fat Man agreed with a nod, stretching out a finger to poke at the sky. "They wouldn’t allow Danghag to randomly influence the young wizards..."
"And as the head persons in charge, Lei Zhe and Augustus," Xiao Xiao raised her voice slightly, indicating that her analysis wasn’t complete yet, "according to the original plan, this term’s Lei Zhe and Augustus were supposed to ’retire’ this summer, but because of this event, their ’retirement’ might be moved up quite a bit..."
Doctor’s last conjecture was highly unexpected, but upon closer thought, it seemed highly plausible.
As Zheng Qing was earnestly contemplating this possibility, a crisp voice suddenly rang in his ear:
"Yo, you’re here to see Nicholas too?"
The young cost student looked up discontentedly, just in time to see Li Meng happily hopping over. Not too far behind her was the entrance to the campus hospital. Scattered at the doorway, a few white-robed staff members shuffled back and forth.
"You guys are a bit slow. Tang Dun just left with his group of little brothers. If you were earlier, you could have met the consolation group from Sacred Will, literally the biggest club in Jiuyou. They brought Nicholas an entire set of statues made from Fallen Vampire Teeth. If you inject some magic power into them, they will kneel on the ground and kowtow vigorously!"
Li Meng chattered away like a machine gun, swiftly changing topics. One moment she discussed how Tang Dun casually using class funds was a bad influence, and the next, she was eagerly analyzing whether Alpha Academy would also send someone to console Nicholas, and how her cousin had already spent the whole morning with Liu Feifei in the campus hospital.
Zheng Qing felt dizzy from listening.
Then, he suddenly felt a lightness in his hand and upon looking, saw that the little witch had taken the box from his hands at some point.
"Did you guys bring gifts for Nicholas too? What did you bring?"
The little witch led a group of boys toward Nicholas’s ward while sharing her experiences in gift-giving, "If you ask me, sending flowers is the most old-fashioned idea... they’re all boys; couldn’t you give something more solid, like a stack of explosion charms? I think Nicholas really wants to blow up Alpha Fortress right now."
Zheng Qing hadn’t figured out how to respond to the little witch’s ’enthusiastic’ suggestion when Li Meng had already squeezed her eyes through the gap of the gift box, scrutinizing the boys’ gifts.
In the box was Zheng Qing’s edible gift for Nicholas, including a box of frog meat-filled dumplings and crispy fried frog legs. Initially, he also wanted to bring a bottle of frog juice, but was sternly stopped by his two companions.
"That stuff is cooling and not suitable for patients," Xin Fat Man was always reliable about food matters. Thus, influenced by these strong opinions, Zheng Qing gave up on bringing the bottle of frog juice.
"Frog meat dumplings, fried frog legs, and a frog plush with its face smashed in... Are you kids from a kindergarten?"
The little witch scrutinized Zheng Qing’s carried gifts through the gap, her look of disdain growing heavier until, suddenly, her eyes widened as if she had thought of something, "Or could it be, you coordinated with my cousin?"
"Huh?" Zheng Qing was utterly baffled.
"My cousin prepared a gift for Nicholas similar to yours," Li Meng’s response made the young man break out in a cold sweat.
His two companions looked at him with strange gazes, making him feel as if he was on pins and needles.
