Chapter 1208: Chapter 270: The Final Choice

The Black Cat that Xiao Xiao spoke of, which seemed to have gone who-knows-where, was now squatting on a large tree stump, watching the witches busily constructing the final part of the magic circle with a numb expression on its face.

Floating in front of it was a piece of parchment, curled at both ends and emitting a faint golden glow. As the witches completed each task, a phantom white feather pen would emerge from thin air and make a check on the parchment.

As the third-party supervisor for this parchment contract, the Black Cat needed to leave a paw print in the corresponding spot each time an item was checked off.

It was like a manager responsible for stamping approvals.

This thought crossed the Black Cat’s mind, and a look of utter disinterest appeared on its face. It would rather roll around under a Cat Fruit Tree than stare dumbly at this parchment, forced to act as a cat-meat stamping machine.

A long while passed.

Just as the Black Cat was about to fall asleep on the tree stump, the witches finally finished the last of the magic circle’s work.

The clear essential oils were evenly spread across each Array brick and conductor wire, shimmering slightly under the combined illumination of the sun and the moon, inexplicably stirring up a peculiar appetite in those who gazed upon it. Fragrant powders fluttered in the center of the Array, taking on a rainbow of colors as the light swept over them, entrancing to behold.

At the top of the six pillars surrounding the Array, an Ancient Gublai Fairy Fire burned on each. This eternal Magic Flame had the power to dispel evil and banish darkness. Its usage in this magic circle was somewhat subtle.

The Black Cat glanced at those flickering Flames a few times before shifting its gaze because in the center of the magic circle, there was something it found more interesting.

It was a Black Mountain Goat, slightly smaller than the one Lin Guo owned and without a beard or horns—perhaps a doe, the Black Cat speculated?

The Black Mountain Goat was placed in the center of the magic circle, in front of an archway, standing on an oval-shaped tile designed to look like a tray adorned with onions, mushrooms, wood ear fungi, and celery. The goat was not tied up, but whether due to Magic Binding or the subtle intimidation of the Array, the little black goat, despite the terror in its eyes, dared not step off the oval tile, merely hoofing nervously on the spot.

The moon above remained unchanged, as if a silent spectator, which slowly relaxed the Black Cat that had been edgy since the beginning. Yet, deep down, it still felt a faint unease.

"My instincts tell me you should have chosen a different day to activate this magic circle."

When Korma approached the tree stump where the Black Cat was sitting, it timely offered its opinion, "This is my advice to you as an experienced magic expert... That thing’s state right now is pretty bizarre."

Saying so, it raised a paw, pointing in the direction of the moon above but didn’t bother to look up.

"Pfft," a stifled chuckle came from the Witch wearing a Red Mask beside it. Elena gave her a reproachful glance, then sized up the Black Cat again.

The Black Cat felt its cheeks grow warm but was confident that no one could see through the cat’s skin to its True Form. So, it boldly met the Witch’s gaze.

"If you were to reveal your True Name, perhaps we would take your suggestion more seriously," Elena responded instead of Korma to Zheng Qing’s point, "As for now... compared to an anonymous Black Cat, I trust the results of my own Divination more."

Perhaps it was because the Magic Ritual was already well-prepared, Korma too showed a hint of relief on her face.

After hearing the explanation from the Gypsy Witch, she added, "Today, most High Tier Wizards in the school are caught up in other matters. Lei Zhe and Augustus also have a meeting scheduled, and the Student Union and the School Works Committee are at their lowest staffing on the Guardian Array’s surveillance, and they are all newcomers. There couldn’t be a better opportunity than today."

She did not clarify how the high-level wizards had been entangled in this matter, nor did she explain how she came to know such information. However, considering her position in the student council, it was hard for the Black Cat not to suspect whether she had tampered with something.

The witch’s determination became even more apparent to it.

It could be said that if Korma’s meddling in the school’s Array or other affairs through her student council role were to be discovered, she would face not just dismissal or school discipline, but possibly prosecution by Danghag. For a witch with a bright future, this was tantamount to suicide.

The atmosphere grew silent for a moment.

Korma rubbed her hands together, a hint of anticipation on her face as she looked at Jiang Yu and then at Elena, "Now, the crucial step... to soak the sacred object in spirit blood."

In Elena’s hands, a brass tray had appeared out of nowhere, holding a piece of jelly-like remains that trembled under the sunlight and moonlight as if it were still alive.

The Black Cat felt the soft fur at the back of its neck bristle suddenly, keenly aware of the immense malevolence and hostility emanating from the ’jelly.’ Intuitively, it recognized the origin of the ’jelly.’

"You are insane!" The Black Cat murmured, licking its mouth, unable to hide the shock on its face.

Jiang Yu silently glanced at it, paused, and then took out a transparent glass test tube from her handbag. The pink blood rolled cheerily inside, much like the little spiritual wizard with her quirky nerves.

"Are you sure?" she asked one last time.

"Start," said Korma, her face showing a touch of impatience.

The pink blood slid down the transparent glass, slowly flowing and landing on the dark red, jelly-like remains. It did not cause the slightest ripple, silently merging into it as if a water droplet into a sponge.

The three witches and the Black Cat watched the ’jelly’ with tense expressions.

The jelly seemed to become even more translucent.

Korma closed her eyes, paused for a moment, and when she opened them again, her eyes were vacant, her originally calm face now replaced with a fanatic expression:

"Ia! Shub-Niggurath! Ut ftaghu wk’hmr Shub-Niggurath! Ia! Ia!"

(Hear, Shub-Niggurath, I call upon you, don the flesh, embody Shub-Niggurath, hear! Hear!)

Accompanied by the strange, obscure chanting, Korma tore off her headband, letting her hair down, ripped off the sleeves of her gown, revealing her white arms, and then took off her boots to walk barefooted, holding the brass tray, toward the center of the Array.

Elena followed closely beside Korma, holding a silver knife with a solemn expression.

"I don’t know what they are really trying to do, but I have a feeling that I will definitely regret today’s decision in the future," the Black Cat said as it looked at the backs of the two witches, its paws restlessly pressing against the tree stump’s growth rings.

The witch standing beside it glanced at the Black Cat.

"I won’t," she simply replied.
