Chapter 1122: Chapter 184: Clash
"Stay calm, stay calm... Don’t get worked up."
The shadowy figure apparently realized it was locked in by several spells and froze on the spot for a few seconds before it gave up on slipping away quietly, slowly turned around, and spread its hands: "I mean no harm."
With those words, he also gently nudged the Little Fox lying in the grass, playing possum, with the tip of his foot, adding, "It’s fine, it just bumped into the metal button on my arm guard... might get a bump on its head, though."
After being nudged twice by him, Poseidon finally stopped playing dead and, with a shriek, jumped three feet into the air, twisted its body nimbly in midair like a wisp of white smoke, and whooshed into the pavilion, seeking refuge in Zheng Qing’s arms and starting to tremble violently.
Zheng Qing’s face was full of anger—at the sight of the wizard nudging Poseidon with his foot, his rage simmered even more—but the wizard’s somewhat familiar voice still forced him to suppress the rage bubbling inside him.
"Regardless of your intentions, you have already violated the ’First University Management Regulations’ in regard to curfew, nighttime activity, and the rules for Lakeside of Bell Lake..."
The warlock stated expressionlessly as he recited the patrol’s ’rights notification clause,’ all the while racking his brain to remember to whom that not-so-familiar voice belonged, "You have the right to remain silent, but every word you say will become evidence for the School Works Committee’s subsequent handling. I am now declaring you to be taken to the School Works Committee’s confinement room, do you have any objection?"
The shadowy figure clearly did not anticipate that Zheng Qing would still act so officially after he spoke, and stood there stunned.
After a long pause, Zheng Qing, growing impatient, was about to recite the ’rights notification clause’ a second time when the other party finally spoke.
"You’re as impulsive as the first time we met," the other’s voice was somewhat low and seemed strained, as if he was speaking with two walnuts in his mouth, "I had thought that after a semester’s study... you would have become a bit more cautious in this campus."
Zheng Qing’s face darkened even more, as he gripped his wooden wand tighter.
He had a vague guess at the other’s identity.
The several hunters from the Absolution Hunting Team, as well as the two Little Witches, Su Ya and Li Meng, wisely kept their mouths shut, not interjecting in the conversation between the two.
The mysterious figure stood up straight, stretching a hand forward, and struggled to pass through the Rune Array set up by Zheng Qing.
The rune array’s pale yellow light screen seemed like a plastic sheet, which was torn apart by the warlock’s casual manipulation. The talisman papers hanging on the pavilion’s pillars shattered to the ground amidst the violent intrusion.
The unimpeded cold wind whistled into the pavilion, gleefully tumbling around.
The pavilion filled with a chill.
But Zheng Qing felt even colder in his heart.
Even though he had used Poor Quality Magic Amulets, even though their primary effect was warmth, the fact that as a guardian-type rune array, they could be nonchalantly ripped apart and shredded like paper by an unknown wizard, left him in abysmal spirits.
What was worse was the other party’s sensitive identity.
The unfamiliar warlock entered the pavilion and lifted the hood on his cloak, revealing a face all too familiar to Zheng Qing, one with fleshy cheeks.
"I’m truly sorry," Mike Gold Cypress Plano said with an apology on his lips but his tone remained ice-cold as he glared with his two little dark eyes, "I had thought it would be warmer inside the pavilion... didn’t expect it to be so fragile to the touch."
"The wind was too strong just now, I didn’t hear you clearly."
"So, those words that you just said, please repeat them again... Thank you."
Awkward silence fell in the gazebo for a moment.
Mike Gold Cypress Plano was also a cost student, who started from scratch to establish the top-ranked Auspicious hunting team and also formed the powerful Auspicious guild.
More critically, he was a student of Alpha Academy.
And he was not just any student at Alpha Academy; he was a cost student, the "Magic Wand"-anointed Starcoin series knight, the vice president of the Alpha Academy student council, and one of the two major contenders for the title of Augustus of the Blood Comrades.
At the moment, the relationship between the Blood Comrades and Sacred Will was somewhat strained, and there were constant disputes between Lei Zhe and Augustus. The debates in the newspapers, conflicts among students, along with the Fishman Tribe and the Horseman Tribe causing troubles one after another, had put the relationship between Jiuyou Academy and Alpha Academy at a very delicate balance.
Any irrational actions by either party could provoke even greater disasters between the academies.
In such a scenario, a star student of Alpha Academy had violated the university’s management regulations and appeared on the Lakeside of Bell Lake in the dead of night, covered in a cloak of invisibility—hardly the look of a normal visitor.
Zheng Qing stared intently at the fat wizard across from him, torn internally.
To accuse him would surely not make him surrender willingly. And in a fight, victory over him wasn’t guaranteed.
After all, the wizard across was the one who had built the Auspicious guild single-handedly, standing out amongst the deeply rooted wizard families of Alpha Fortress with his humble beginnings. Their own side were just a few newcomers who had been enrolled for just over half a year and hadn’t completely shed the label of ’newcomers’. To face them head-on was to admit a lack of confidence unless one was utterly shameless.
More importantly, Sepulano’s many identities meant he could represent the image of Alpha. During this sensitive time, any attack from a student of Jiuyou Academy on him could potentially be escalated, interpreted as an attack from Jiuyou on Alpha.
But Zheng Qing was also unwilling to let it slide.
For one, Sepulano indeed was the first to break the rules, and regardless of how Alpha would quibble afterwards, Jiuyou Academy ultimately had the moral high ground. Furthermore, that scoundrel Sepulano had actually kicked Poseidon twice!
Feeling Little Fox shiver in his arms, the anger in Zheng Qing’s heart surged. A surge of courage, a swelling of breath, and on the third surge, his temper exploded.
"What I said just now was, ’You have already violated the "First University Management Regulations" concerning curfews, nighttime activity range, and the rules of Bell Lake. Now I declare that I am taking you to the School Works Committee’s detention room, do you have any objections?’"
Zheng Qing’s face was expressionless as he repeated word for word what he had said earlier.
A flicker of surprise crossed Sepulano’s face.
Because Zheng Qing had repeated those words, it meant that there was no room left for maneuvering. Relying on their last interaction, Sepulano initially thought Zheng Qing was a smooth operator, completely unprepared for him to stick to his guns to the bitter end.
"That is indeed a surprise."
The excess flesh on Sepulano’s cheeks trembled as he squeezed out a smile, slightly grimacing, "So you are saying you are fully confident that you can detain me here?"
"Confidence isn’t the word, but I do have the conviction to uphold the rules," Zheng Qing clenched the Charm Gun in his hand, his gaze fixed on every move of the wizard opposite him.
Behind him, the other Hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team had silently arranged themselves into an offensive formation.
