Chapter 209: When a Class Hits Different
Scavratt laughed, his chains dragging as he stepped forward.
"So this is the peak of A-rank? What a joke."
He slammed his foot down, rust bursting out from the impact.
The ground cracked. Rust trails spread in every direction.
He lifted his arms, flexing his claws as his Decay Chain Whip uncoiled behind him.
"You’re done, old man."
He stepped closer, but then his grin started to fade.
The air was getting hotter. A lot hotter.
Scavratt’s eyes narrowed.
He looked at his rusted chain. It was glowing red.
His armor hissed. He touched it—his claws burned slightly.
"What the..."
The cloud of rust around him started to thin.
The floating dust turned black, then flared and vanished into sparks.
"That’s not normal fire."
He backed up a step. His eyes locked on Blazren.
The old man was kneeling, breathing hard, but the flame around him grew.
"No. That’s not... he’s not just using abilities..."
The flame around Blazren wasn’t just heating the air.
It was melting Scavratt’s defense.
Even his rust cloud couldn’t form right anymore.
"Damn it, what is he doing? He’s not planning to explode himself, is he?"
Scavratt looked around. No one was helping the old man.
No backup. No tricks. But that pressure kept rising.
"He wouldn’t do something that suicidal. Would he?"
He clenched his fists. Sparks jumped from his claws. His tail twitched.
Something deep in his gut told him to stop watching and act.
"If I let him build up more, I’m dead."
He roared, then charged forward.
His claws tore into the ground as he launched toward Blazren.
He couldn’t let the flame grow any hotter.
"I’ll rip you apart before you finish whatever that is!"
His [Decay Chain Whip] flew forward, aiming for Blazren’s legs.
"Fall already!"
The rust cloud gathered behind him as he dashed. Scavratt’s speed surged.
He activated [Rust Mutation Shift] mid-run. His form twisted, got larger, bulkier, faster.
He snarled.
"You’re not going to turn this around. You’re not going to win. Not now."
He lunged.
"I’m ending this now!"
---
Blazren dropped to one knee. His breathing was shallow. His body shook.
His arms felt heavy like stone, and there was a sharp, burning pain in his chest.
His fingers touched the ground. Even the floor felt distant now.
"So this is how it ends..."
He coughed once. The inside of his throat felt dry and hot.
"Damn it... I really might die here."
The flames flickering around his body danced weakly now.
He knew he couldn’t take another hit.
"If only... I had awakened a class."
His fingers dug into the ground.
But suddenly, the heat in his chest didn’t stop or grow weaker.
Instead, it grew. It pulsed. A fire, not his normal power, but something deeper.
Then he remembered. Something other heroes had told him.
"They said awakening a class... hurts."
"It makes your whole body weak first."
"Because your new class eats your old strength to make something new."
He closed his eyes. The burning in his chest matched the stories.
His body felt like it was being drained but his flame burned brighter.
"That must be it. That’s why I feel like this. I’m not dying... I’m awakening."
A faint smile broke through the pain.
"So it’s finally happening..."
He tried to stand but failed. Scavratt was still walking toward him.
Even as the flames burned hotter, the ratman didn’t stop.
Blazren looked up and frowned.
"No. Not now."
He growled under his breath.
"Class... awaken faster."
Scavratt’s claws scraped the floor as he rushed forward.
"I’m not letting you burn me again, old man!"
Blazren clutched his chest, gritting his teeth. The heat grew unbearable.
His heart pounded like a drum. Then—suddenly—it happened.
The pain exploded.
Blazren let out a massive roar as flames burst out of him in all directions.
A fiery shockwave ripped through the air.
It slammed into Scavratt and hurled him back across the street like a broken puppet.
Scavratt crashed into a wall and dropped to the ground, smoking.
Far off in the shadows, the black wolfman watched the scene unfold.
His eyes narrowed.
"So you actually tried to rush him."
He crossed his arms slowly.
"I knew you weren’t smart, but this...?"
He clicked his tongue and shook his head.
"He was about to explode. The flames were out of control."
"And what do you do? You run straight into him."
He leaned back against the wall.
"Why not wait? Why not pull back and let him burn himself out?"
He let out a quiet laugh, low and cold.
"What a stupid rat!"
He was just about to turn away when he heard it.
A slow, heavy step echoed from the center of the smoke.
He paused.
His ears twitched.
"What...?"
The smoke began to thin, swirling from the heat.
He leaned forward slightly, eyes narrowing.
"No way..."
From the center of the explosion, a figure walked forward—Blazren.
But he was no longer human.
Now, he was a towering lion-man, standing over two meters tall.
His body was covered in blazing fur, and his muscles pulsed with fire.
Every step scorched the ground.
Flames wrapped around his shoulders like a mane.
Blazren looked at his hands.
"So this is a class..."
He tightened his fists.
"I feel stronger. Faster. Like I’m finally complete."
He looked down at the ground. Scavratt was coughing, trying to push himself up.
Blazren stepped closer.
"You were winning a second ago."
Scavratt looked up, eyes wide.
"What... what are you?"
Blazren smirked.
"I’m Blazren."
The ground cracked as he stepped forward again.
"And your time just ran out."
Zain, in the distance, turned his head slightly.
"Interesting. Very interesting."
"So this is what your class looks like, old man."
Blazren’s flames flared again. The air around him shimmered with heat.
Scavratt tried to get up, but his legs gave out.
"No... this isn’t fair."
Blazren looked at him with calm eyes.
"Fair or not... this ends now."
He crouched slightly, preparing for the next move.
The battle wasn’t over—but now, the ground belonged to him.
