Chapter 579: Chapter 417: He, Qin Chu, surely can’t kill all the Holy Men, right? (1)
"Ransacked Kain’s home?"
At these words, a deathly silence descended all around.
In the Holy Hall, now devoid of its walls, aside from Wozworth and Saint Monica who were smiling broadly, everyone else, including Veronica and Anpton, was utterly dumbfounded.
This included some nearby Holy Men of the Church, whose countless gazes were now fixed upon Qin Chu, their faces only describable as shocked.
"You can’t be serious. You’re not even the Pope yet, yet you’re already issuing orders in the Pope’s name?"
And furthermore, without a trial, you want to confiscate an Archbishop’s property directly?
However you look at it, that’s a bit too much, isn’t it? Even Augustus, while he was still alive, wasn’t as brazen as Mr. Brave.
Kain’s complexion turned wildly as his body shivered intensely, partly because, after all, he was a respectable Archbishop of the Holy Court, and yet Qin Chu, this bastard, dared to treat him with such disdain, not giving him the slightest bit of face. On the other hand, it was because his home truly would not withstand such turmoil; Kain knew better than anyone what filth was hidden within his residence.
Kain hadn’t expected Qin Chu to target him right off the bat, and his move was so harsh that, unable to control himself, he shouted out, "Stop! Qin Chu, you have no right to do this."
Perhaps it was due to the anger and panic in his heart, but Kain’s voice became somewhat shrill.
In sharp contrast to Kain’s great reaction, Qin Chu appeared much more nonchalant, his face only revealing a slight smile: "Augustus passed on the papacy to me, and the whole Imperial City is well aware of it."
"Brother Wozworth, Miss Saint Monica, you’ve heard it as well, haven’t you?"
Kain failed to notice that Qin Chu referred to the Emperor and the Church Venerable slightly differently.
"Haha, of course, I heard Augustus’s voice loud and clear even within the Imperial Palace," Wozworth laughed heartily.
Saint Monica also gave a slight nod: "I did hear it."
Kain and his companions stiffened, as this shameless scoundrel Qin Chu daring to use both the Emperor and the Church Venerable for his advantage was simply too disgraceful. They hardly dared to retort—retorting would mean disrespecting the Emperor and the Church Venerable. Are they seeking death?
And yet, before Kain and the others could even speak, the Holy Light Scepter had already appeared in Qin Chu’s palm.
The moment that symbol of papal authority appeared, a bright light instantaneously attracted the gazes of Kain and his fellows, each of their eyes glittering with intense greed.
It was the symbol of the Pope; only the one who wielded this scepter would be recognized as the Pope of the Holy Court.
Everyone’s breathing became somewhat rapid; it was as if there was a strong impulse in their chests, wanting to rush forward and snatch the scepter from Qin Chu’s hands.
"I have the appointment from the previous Pope, Augustus."
"Moreover, I wield the Holy Light Scepter, which symbolizes papal authority."
Qin Chu’s gaze rested on Kain, his voice suddenly took on a more sinister and dangerous tone: "I say I am the Pope, do you have an objection?"
Gulp...
The moment Qin Chu’s gaze fell upon him, Kain felt as if he had been targeted by a vicious and brutal snake, a chill creeping over him. It was a shiver originating from the soul, filled with sinister danger, making Kain feel as though there were slimy, furry things wriggling behind his neck.
A tight layer of goosebumps rapidly covered his body.
Qin Chu had done nothing, yet that weird sense of fear made Kain’s legs tremble uncontrollably.
Those elderly eyes were flickering rapidly, and one hand made a gesture quickly in a place he thought Qin Chu couldn’t see.
Outside the Holy Hall, a priest suddenly stepped forward: "I object."
Qin Chu was not angry; he looked at the priest with a faint smile, seemingly curious to hear what this man had to eloquently propose.
"I acknowledge you have the appointment of Augustus and the Holy Light Scepter, but... the laws of our ancestors cannot be abolished."
"In the thousands of years since the Holy Court was established, there has never been a precedent of an Otherworldly becoming a Pope. Thus, you simply don’t qualify."
At that moment, a young girl standing not far from the Holy Hall suddenly stepped forward.
This girl looked somewhat familiar... Ah, that’s right, she seems to be the current Saintess Candidate for the Holy Court, Sherry, and also a member of the Hero Team.
Because she didn’t appear often, Qin Chu almost forgot who she was.
One could tell Sherry held a certain reverence for Augustus, as her pale, tender face clearly showed sadness due to his death, making her delicate figure seem all the more fragile.
But, Sherry’s voice had a firmness to it: "Father Sloane, the Holy Court has no such rule that the laws of our ancestors cannot be abolished."
Sherry quietly turned around, her bright eyes calmly fixated on Father Sloane: "Perhaps I have overlooked something in my studies of the Church’s canons. Could you, Father Sloane, kindly point out which page and section within the canons states that an Otherworldly cannot assume the role of Pope?"
Sherry played the defense into attack quite nicely.
For a moment, Father Sloane was left speechless. If such regulations truly existed within the canons, they wouldn’t be having this much trouble.
However, Sloane quickly came up with a countermeasure, thinking rapidly; if he couldn’t logically refute Qin Chu’s legitimacy, he’d attack from another angle.
"Shut your mouth, Sherry."
Father Sloane let out a rude bark: "Augustus imprisoned the previous Holy Daughter, already violating the Church’s canons, so he had no qualification to be Pope in the first place."
"Since Augustus wasn’t qualified to be Pope, then his appointment is worthless."
"And furthermore, Qin Chu, as a Hero, associating with a Demon girl and consorting with those filthy Demons—what kind of trash like this deserves to be Pope..."
Father Sloane’s voice grew increasingly excited as he began to question not only Qin Chu’s qualifications for the position of Pope, but even his identity as a Hero: "Such a scoundrel, who devours beauty as if it’s life, what qualification does he have to continue being a Hero? Can we still entrust the hope of the Sky Dome Continent to this man?"
"I suggest that Qin Chu should personally kill the Snow Woman and the Blood Elf to prove his loyalty to humanity."
In an instant, all eyes were focused on Sloane.
Even Wozworth and Saint Monica were no exception. Sloane had never received such attention before, and for a moment, he seemed to float on air, feeling as though he had grown taller.
Qin Chu was also taken aback, as if he couldn’t believe that such idiots... existed in this world.
Loyalty?
He should prove his loyalty to the humans of the Sky Dome Continent?
Did this guy get something wrong? It’s the Sky Dome Continent that needs a Hero, not the Hero who needs the Sky Dome Continent. Doesn’t he even understand this most basic relationship?
Why could this guy so confidently spout such nonsense?
How did this kind of person ever become a priest?
Under the gaze of the crowd, Sloane seemed to become more and more excited, unable to contain the passion in his chest. He spread his arms as if wanting to rally his companions to stand up and resist. If Qin Chu wasn’t willing to kill Helois and Iyeta to prove his innocence, what right did he have to seek the position of Pope?
Just then... as Helois’s arms began to open.
Ssst!
A crimson, sharp light suddenly appeared from the horizon, like a scorching meteor tearing through the night sky.
It moved too fast for anyone to comprehend, and the holy men only saw a flash of red before Sloane’s body stiffened in place, motionless.
The sharp Sword Qi split the ground in front of Sloane, leaving a long fissure.
A few seconds later, Sloane’s head silently fell from his neck, thudding onto the ground and rolling away.
The cut at the neck, seared by the intense Sword Qi, turned the wound pitch black.
Hiss!
The crowd, which had just started to rouse, fell dead silent in an instant.
Nobody expected Sloane to be killed off just like that.
Then came a wave of intense heat, as the Crimson Valkyrie, with her body engulfed in fierce flames as if she had stepped out of a blaze, descended from the sky and landed next to Sloane’s corpse.
Clasping the Flame Extreme Heavy Sword tightly in her hand, she ignored the fearful and angry glances from all around and marched straight through the crowd toward Qin Chu.
No matter when, Catherine was always the guardian at her master’s side.
The holy men were full of hatred toward Catherine, but they instinctively parted, none daring to stand in her way.
Without Douglas, without Rose Vesper, without Augustus’s Holy Court, no one was a match for the Crimson Valkyrie.
Kain felt his throat turn dry.
In fact, Qin Chu had returned much earlier, but he had waited until the most critical moment to appear. When Kain spoke of the attempt to pursue Anpton’s embezzlement of six million Mana, Qin Chu knew his excuse had arrived.
And this was just the beginning.
Rumble, rumble...
The holy men, filled with terror, felt the earth tremble violently beneath them as if an earthquake had struck.
Their panicked gazes looked all around, only to see towering walls of thick earth suddenly rise from the ground, completely sealing all the priests and members of the Holy Court inside.
This was Norma’s strength.
The Earth Witch’s magic had become increasingly proficient for Norma.
Above the walls stood Antia, Violet, Helois, Iyeta.
Except for Nadia and Antasia who remained at the palace, Ireta still busily purifying souls on the Sky Dome Continent, and Angelica out shopping, the others had all assembled.
The entire Holy Court had been thoroughly sealed off!
The Crimson Valkyrie was aflame, frost and snow swirled around Helois, a strange red mist surrounded Iyeta, and violent storms circled Violet, with shackles writhing around Antia like venomous snakes.
Even the sky above boasted two identical silver-haired, red-eyed maidens.
The sight before them was uncanny, and Kain, Alger, Wright, Galbraith—all of them—were terrified.
They suddenly remembered a very obvious fact they had deliberately forgotten... that Qin Chu possessed far greater power and forces than they did.
That... was not an existence they could contend with.
Fear made them tremble, their eyes sweeping over the many faithful who were also engulfed in panic.
Perhaps the only option now was to incite all the holy men. If everyone stood in opposition together, surely Qin Chu couldn’t kill tens of thousands of priests, could he?
