Chapter 509: Chapter 352: Could I be in love with him? (1)
Shaye Nicholas was baffled by her own reaction.
She did not understand why she took such an interest in Qin Chu, the Hero. After all, even though the identity of the Hero was very important, that was only for humans and demons. To her, a Witch, how the Hero turned out didn’t really matter to her one bit.
Whether humans glimpsed hope in him, or if this Hero would be torn to shreds by Demon King Nage just like the First Generation Brave.
Whether the world ended up under human dominion or manipulated by demons made no difference in Shaye’s eyes.
The sole purpose of her departure from Demon King City this time was to find out who the hell dared to impersonate her and scam others. After entering the Imperial City, another goal emerged, which was to uncover who had set the trap behind her back, subjecting her to unprecedented humiliation.
Shaye was no fool, and although she had never experienced certain things, she had the requisite knowledge. Just the thought of being pure and unblemished yet having experienced that particular sensation first made Shaye burn with shame and anger.
The hatred toward that insolent imposter, who dared to humiliate her, was even deeper than her hatred for the one impersonating her.
She suspected that the one who humiliated her might be the mysterious Horus.
No matter what, these two things should have been the most important to her. Yet why, after meeting the Hero, did she feel a peculiar attraction to this man?
It was as though countless invisible threads connected her to the Hero.
The gentle smile.
The handsome features.
The keenness to notice her preferences.
A gentleman who was not overly persistent, yet just right.
Every move he made seemed particularly charming.
Much better than that clownish baboon beside him, by countless magnitudes.
Poor Carlos, once again whipped without his knowledge.
Could it be... that I like him? Love at first sight with that man?
A weird idea suddenly emerged in Shaye’s mind, but she quickly shook her head. It couldn’t be, considering that when she recalled the man now, suspicion came to mind more than any palpitation of her heart.
However, without a doubt, this man left a deeper impression in her heart than any other man had.
Shaye Nicholas admitted that Qin Chu was a very outstanding and charming man, but... this did not explain the strange sense of kinship that came from nowhere. Moreover, what made Shaye even more mystified was that although there were plenty of outstanding and charming men in this world, she had never felt such a strong curiosity about a man before.
It was this curiosity that eventually led Shaye to inquire about the Hero’s residence after they parted ways, and she stealthily lurked near the palace, wanting to understand what exactly about Qin Chu truly attracted her.
To her surprise, she witnessed the Hero leaving quietly with several girls under the cover of night.
With so many beautiful girls around him, was this Hero just like the other powerful and influential men in the human world?
Shaye Nicholas felt some displeasure in her heart and downgraded her opinion of the Hero.
After a brief hesitation, Shaye Nicholas still followed from behind. The Hero and the women around him were quite capable, but that was all.
For Shaye, who had surpassed human limits, none of the women could detect her presence as long as she did not reveal herself.
She watched as the Hero’s party moved silently through the Imperial City, eventually even crossing the city walls and leaving the Imperial City.
This aroused further suspicion in Shaye Nicholas’s mind. What exactly was the magnificent Hero planning to do so sneakily?
Her curiosity grew, and she quickened her pace slightly.
She saw the Hero and his companions quickly disappear into a forest, and after a short time, a surge of strong magic fluctuations transmitted through the woods, and in the next instant, the Hero and his party vanished.
Shaye Nicholas’s maroon eyes narrowed slightly, her figure flickering like a shimmer in the night, appearing instantly at the spot where the Hero and his group had disappeared. Her brow furrowed, and her expression grew somber.
Traces of magic fluctuations still lingered in the air.
This was... a Space Transmission Magic Array?
The Dark Witch was exceptionally familiar with this kind of magic fluctuation, as she often used it herself.
If it were just ordinary spatial energy, Shaye Nicholas would not have been so shocked. But this Space Transmission Magic Array was a spell that she, the Dark Witch, had researched and developed by herself.
She had never taught this magic to anyone before. How did the Hero come to master it?
In that instant, Shaye Nicholas’s curiosity and suspicion towards Qin Chu reached an unprecedented level. This Hero was just too odd.
However, it seemed that the Hero was unaware of her presence, nor did he know a particular characteristic of this Space Transmission Magic Array.
Under the moonlight, Shaye Nicholas’s eyes grew increasingly blood-red.
The corners of her full lips curved slightly, her slender hands gently spread as the Dark Witch sensed the remaining magical fluctuations in the air, judging the approximate location and distance of the Space Magic Array.
Although it wasn’t particularly precise.
Seconds passed, and Shaye opened her eyes, smiling smugly.
The next second, her fingertips twitched, and a tree branch on the ground leapt up, crafting patterns in the earth.
Instantly, as Shaye Nicholas’s slender, pale fingers intertwined lightly, there was a snapping sound, and the Dark Witch’s figure disappeared from the spot.
...
The Imperial City of the Empire remained shrouded in heavy gloom.
This tense atmosphere had persisted for a long time, like a balloon swelling up and ready to burst at any moment, suffocating and terrifying before the inevitable explosion, which anyone could feel.
Since Carlos, the president of the adventurer’s guild, had parted ways with Shaye Nicholas... Well, it wasn’t really a parting at all. The truth was Shaye Nicholas and Qin Chu seemed to have a great time together, completely ignoring him.
His presence was like air to those two... No, more like a foolish baboon’s? Wasn’t it pathetic not just to leave, rather than watch the dog couple, after having their fill, head to a hotel to get a room for a little workout, to digest their meal?
In any case, it was this very night that Carlos received an invitation from Rose Vesper.
That woman, who in Carlos’s eyes had become even more witchlike than the Saintess, offered him an opportunity, suggesting that if he accepted, he should come to find her at the Holy Court.
Almost half a month had passed since then.
Carlos had searched all over the Imperial City for any trace of Shaye Nicholas, mobilizing a large number of adventurers to scour every corner of both the Noble District and the Civilian District, all to no avail.
It was as if the vision he had seen that day had been nothing but a beautiful illusion in a dream.
Also missing was the Hero, who, according to the official announcement, had gone to hunt Demons.
The Hero and Shaye Nicholas missing at the same time?
Carlos, prone to letting his imagination run wild, couldn’t help but conjure up all sorts of scenarios. What a joke, hunting Demons? Was it possible that these two had sneaked off together for a clandestine rendezvous?
Was the comfort of a soft hotel room in the Imperial City no longer sufficient for their needs?
Did they perhaps seek the thrill of nature, to find pleasure amidst the lush forests, by the babbling brooks, atop the chilling, windswept peaks, in the midst of verdant meadows, between heaven and earth?
The myriad images that sprang to mind were unbearable for Carlos, who found himself trembling uncontrollably, the rage on his face growing more intense by the second, his eyes nearly spewing flames.
"Damn it..."
After a long while, Carlos let out a guttural roar, unable to contain himself any longer.
The next second, the president of the adventurer’s guild kicked open his door and headed in the direction of the Holy Court.
Although he hated to admit it, Carlos knew that the Hero who had single-handedly slain the Second Prince of Demons, Edrich, was no longer someone he could contend with; Carlos had once encountered this Second Prince during the war against the Demons, only to be defeated shamefully.
He wanted to know what sort of opportunity the mysterious Saintess had prepared for him.
Not much later, Carlos’s figure appeared at the entrance of the Holy Court.
As president of the adventurer’s guild and a Believer of the Holy Light Goddess, Carlos was not obstructed and made his way directly to the Saintess’s boudoir.
At the same time, in the highest level of the cathedral, Augustus’s figure quietly stood by a window, his face adorned with a sinister, cold smirk, watching as Carlos approached.
He had indeed underestimated that woman, Rose Vesper.
She had more tricks and abilities than he had imagined, managing even to recruit the leader of the adventurer’s guild to her side; it seemed Rose Vesper was truly determined to kill Qin Chu.
What a pity.
Actually, Augustus had quite a favorable impression of Qin Chu, the Hero.
If it weren’t for his own desire to take advantage of this opportunity to obtain the Hero’s body, he would be quite reluctant to see Qin Chu die so easily.
Shaking his head, Augustus retracted his gaze, and the reflection in the mirror showed his figure, once hunched, now standing up straight.
The deep creases on his face seemed to have smoothed out considerably.
Even his silver-white hair now sported a layer of dark grey.
The man appeared to have rejuvenated at least ten years within a short time.
Elsewhere, Carlos had reached the door of the Saintess’s boudoir, and after a moment’s hesitation, he raised his hand and knocked lightly.
Creak...
The door swung open automatically.
There she stood, looking perfectly normal, pure, and holy, Saintess Rose Vesper appeared before Carlos.
Upon seeing Carlos, the corners of Rose Vesper’s lips curled into a pleasing arc, "Lord Carlos, your presence here, may I take that as acceptance of my proposal?"
Carlos took a deep breath, nodded, and asked, "Then, what is this opportunity you’re giving me?"
Rose Vesper smiled, her hand brushing gently over the surface of the table.
In the next second, where there had been nothing, seven scrolls suddenly appeared on the table.
"Pick one!"
