Chapter 462: Chapter 312: Daughter of the Gods (4)_2
Having become Pope, I would wield one of the most formidable powers across the entire Sky Dome Continent, on par with Saint Monica and Wozworth, and the path to Lord Jie Luo’s revival would become much easier.
Of course, the precondition is to pull down that bastard Augustus.
Rose Vesper believed that one day she could match Augustus’s strength, but that wasn’t something that could be achieved quickly; however, if she could surround herself with enough strong support, she might achieve the same effect.
So, Rose Vesper prepared to bolster her own strength and seize control.
The first person she approached was a Vice Captain, though not the one suggested by Catherine; unexpectedly, facing her veiled threats, the Vice Captain outright refused and left without even negotiating with Rose Vesper.
It seemed that merely relying on compromising material to manipulate those in high positions of power was a bit too forced, a fact she was aware of; yet, the attitude of the Vice Captain had seriously irritated Rose Vesper.
Thus, she directly released all the compromising material, causing a massive uproar immediately.
The overwhelming tide of public opinion was enough to send shivers down Rose Vesper’s spine; those who had been wronged by the Vice Captain in the past, those who wished to push Vice Captain out and take his place, those who felt their own promotions were hindered due to Vice Captain using his nephew to secure a higher rank...
Even without Rose Vesper’s direct intervention and guidance, these people had already turned public opinion into a chaotic mess.
Although the Vice Captain’s personal safety wasn’t threatened and despite most believers being ordinary people without strength, when these voices joined together, not even the Vice Captain could endure it.
Compromising material with evidence, slanders without proof, and fabrications flew all over the place.
The reputation of the Vice Captain plummeted to the depths within a short period of time, transforming from a highly revered holy man to a universally scorned scumbag.
Is such scum really suitable to hold a position of authority within the Church Court?
Using the excuse of quelling the disturbance within the Church and amongst the believers, the Heresy Court arrested the Vice Captain, and internally there were hardly any voices of dissent; anyone who objected was considered an accomplice.
And once anyone entered the sort of place the Heresy Court was, it became difficult to leave.
For the first time, Rose Vesper truly felt the power of public opinion; it wasn’t public opinion itself that was frightening, but the formidable support that backed it.
If used well, public opinion could be a more terrifying weapon than swords, magic, and martial arts.
The end of this Vice Captain also served as a warning to others; from that point on, the higher-ups Rose Vesper approached would immediately submit upon seeing their compromising material.
Rose Vesper was convinced that Archbishop Kain would be no exception.
"Archbishop Kain, you know what became of Vice Captain Kant, don’t you?"
"You wouldn’t want to face such an end, right? Your crimes are even more severe than those of Vice Captain Kant. Do you think you could maintain your current status if these magic images were exposed? Could you still be an Archbishop?"
"In the Heresy Court, some devices have been prepared for you."
Gulp...
Kain’s throat moved as he swallowed hard.
The mere hint of it revealed that the affair of Vice Captain Kant must have been the handiwork of Rose Vesper.
Leaving Douglas here, it was clear there would be no chance for any denial; holding proven evidence, Douglas could just arrest him on the spot and send him to the Heresy Court; no one inside the Holy Court would dare say much.
He was definitely a smart man.
A smile suddenly appeared on Kain’s face, "Holy Daughter Rose Vesper must be joking. I have always admired you, Holy Daughter. Please state your demands; Kain would never refuse."
In his mind, Kain was rapidly assessing, what exactly did Douglas and the Holy Daughter intend to do?
Dealing with him would offer no advantage to them, so the only purpose would be to make him a subordinate?
But what would that accomplish? Douglas was already a Cardinal, Rose Vesper was the Holy Daughter—having another subordinate like him wouldn’t mean much... Wait a minute... Their target couldn’t be the position of Pope, could it?
Upon this sudden realization, Kain’s eyes narrowed into slits, and he contemplated the relationship between Rose Vesper and Douglas; Rose Vesper was clearly the one being pushed to the forefront. Could it be that they intended to make Rose Vesper the first Female Pope of the Holy Court?
Even with Kain’s steely will, he couldn’t help but be shocked by the ambition of Rose Vesper and the Cardinal.
However, he had no loyalty towards Augustus; Augustus had risen from Saint Heir to Pope, which was unprecedented in the history of the Holy Court, since Popes were traditionally chosen from amongst the Archbishops. Who would have imagined that someone like Augustus would emerge from nowhere that year?
The cunning man didn’t wait for Rose Vesper’s response and immediately continued, "Kain is willing to live and die for Holy Daughter, no matter what you intend to do, I am your most staunch supporter."
"Kain, you are clever." Rose Vesper was quite satisfied with Kain’s answer, "Please come to this location in seven days to attend a small gathering, where you’ll meet many like-minded companions."
