Chapter 455: Chapter 307: Rose Vesper, Do You Want to be the Pope? (4)
Once, the Hero Team had ten members; now, five are already dead.
Benson, Ronald, Muse, Karsas, and Aili are all dead.
Aileen has deserted.
What once was a powerful team is now suffering heavy losses, but the remaining four are all together to resurrect Lord Jie Luo, each a trusted and worthy partner.
Thinking of this, Rose Vesper felt somewhat comforted.
But the mere thought of the unknown trials they’d face in Lord Jie Luo’s resurrection dampened her spirits—could just four people really achieve it?
Catherine saw the thoughts in Rose Vesper’s mind, sighed softly, walked over to her, and gently patted her shoulder, "Rose Vesper, you needn’t be too sad."
"Think about it, Ronald, Benson, Muse, Karsas—what were their capabilities?"
"They were all battle-hardened strong ones. If it weren’t for Aileen and Aili, those two traitors betraying us, how could they have ended up with such a tragic fate?"
"We kept losing before not because our strength wasn’t enough, but because we had traitors among us."
"Now that the traitors are gone, we will all put forth all our strength to resurrect Lord Jie Luo, and future actions will definitely be smooth sailing."
Rose’s heart felt slightly better. Granted there were only four of them left, but each person was very strong, especially Catherine who seemed to have leveled up again recently.
"But, now that we’ve expelled Aileen the traitor, might she reveal our plans to Qin Chu..." Rose Vesper still worried somewhat.
"There’s no need to worry about that," Catherine shook her head. "Although Aileen betrayed us, her goal is still aligned with ours; she just wanted Lord Jie Luo all to herself."
"Telling our plans to Qin Chu wouldn’t benefit her at all."
Catherine’s gaze shifted to the other two, "Rose Vesper, Asina, Silf..."
"Aili and Aileen betrayed us because they wanted to monopolize Lord Jie Luo, attempting to eliminate everyone close to him but themselves..."
"I don’t want such people in our team. So, I suggest the four of us swear by the name of the Holy Light Goddess that we will not harbor thoughts of monopolizing Lord Jie Luo, how about that?"
At these words, faces registered different reactions.
Catherine didn’t care much, "I’ll start... By the name of the Holy Light Goddess, I, Catherine, swear I have no intentions of monopolizing Lord Jie Luo. Should I break this oath, may God judge me."
Cheh, whatever Lord Jie Luo, she didn’t care. Let them do whatever they want, it had nothing to do with her.
All she needed was a master.
Asina sighed softly, "Then I’ll go too..."
After discovering some truth, her feelings for Jie Luo had cooled, not as intense as before, besides, Jie Luo was no longer likely to resurrect.
Now, she just wanted to investigate all the truth, particularly why Jie Luo saved her initially and chose her to be a member of the Hero Team.
If it were not at her master’s behest, she wouldn’t even wish to be here now.
Silf also extended her finger, "By the name of the Holy Light Goddess, I swear..."
Silf now only wanted to survive, to clean the weird threads inside her body soon, too preoccupied to care about much else.
She was here today due to Qin Chu’s arrangements.
However, knowing that Aileen had been driven away and that Aili was dead, she was quite pleased.
Only Rose Vesper was somewhat reluctant.
From the bottom of her heart, she wasn’t willing to share Jie Luo with any other women, Lord Jie Luo was hers alone; no one else had any right to him. But now that only four of them remained, if they couldn’t stay united, perhaps Jie Luo truly couldn’t be resurrected.
Suppressing the annoyance in her heart, Rose Vesper finally took the oath.
A smile appeared on Catherine’s face, "With this, we are all good sisters, and we will face everything together from now on."
"Moreover, while we lost Muse, it wasn’t without gain; at least we obtained the first Soul Fragment of Jie Luo."
Upon hearing this, Rose Vesper’s spirit lifted.
Indeed.
They had finally taken a small step... Although only a small step, it was a significant leap towards resurrecting Lord Jie Luo.
At least, they now saw hope.
The Soul Fragment of Lord Jie Luo was still in Silf’s hands, and she didn’t intend to keep it for herself but handed it over to Rose Vesper.
Seeing Rose Vesper’s trembling hands clutching the fragment, even Asina felt a bit of pity for her.
This poor woman, completely unaware that not to mention a single fragment, even if they managed to gather ten or eight, Lord Jie Luo would not reappear before her.
In fact, it was none other than a Demon.
"Silf, won’t you keep it with yourself?" Rose Vesper’s voice carried a hint of tremble.
"No need." Silf casually waved her hand. "I still have to honor the agreement and serve as Qin Chu’s maid; it’s not very convenient. It is safer with you."
Silf must have been worried that Qin Chu would notice something; she was indeed very cautious.
Moreover, the fact that she didn’t give the soul fragment to Catherine or Asina but to herself made Rose Vesper quite satisfied. Silf truly was a good sister to her.
Trusting her was the right choice.
"However, on the road to resurrecting Jie Luo, we still have a long way to go," Catherine remarked, pouring cold water on the excited Rose Vesper.
The fervor in Rose Vesper’s heart gradually subsided.
Catherine, though lacking tact, was right—it wasn’t the time to get excited, as they had only found one fragment, and they had no idea how many more were out there or where they might be.
Furthermore, a large amount of materials was still needed for the resurrection technique...
Even if the four sisters joined forces, they were, after all, short-handed.
"Ah, we are still too few," Catherine sighed heavily, intentionally saying, "Rose Vesper, it’s up to you now. You are the Holy Daughter of the Holy Court, after all. You might be able to mobilize some people to handle investigations and the like."
Indeed, she was still the core of the team.
"True, knowing where the fragments are, we could retrieve them, but asking us to investigate would be too difficult," Asina nodded in agreement. "In this regard, you, Rose Vesper, can do much better than all of us combined."
Even the prideful Elf complimented Rose Vesper.
A series of high praises came her way, and Rose Vesper couldn’t help but feel a bit elated.
It seemed that the proudest of women had finally understood her importance, given the sharp decrease in the number of members in the Hero Team.
Indeed, even if Lord Jie Luo were resurrected, her contribution would still be the greatest.
"Ah, what a pity."
"Rose Vesper is just a Holy Daughter."
"Moreover, she has been affected by the affairs with Karsas recently; her influence within the Holy Court isn’t as great as before."
"Even if there are still vassals, I am afraid there are not as many as before... If only Rose Vesper were the Pope, then she could command the entire Church’s power to help us investigate," Catherine expressed her straightforward nature.
She did not think before she spoke.
But these words sparked a thought in Rose Vesper.
Indeed, if she were the Pope of the Holy Court, everyone in the Holy Court would obey her commands. Investigating any matter or searching for any materials would become much easier.
She even thought that even without these three sisters, it wouldn’t be a problem—the power of the Holy Court alone would be sufficient to solve all problems.
Unfortunately, that old fox Augustus was still sitting in that position with no intention of stepping down anytime soon, and to make things worse, he was still hale and hearty...
Of course, some thoughts were only fleeting in her mind; Rose Vesper was aware of how strong Augustus was. Even combined, she and her sisters, including all the power of Douglas and the Heresy Court, were probably no match for Augustus.
The difference between someone over Level 90 and Level 80 was just too great.
Thinking this, Rose Vesper suppressed the surge of impulse and forced a smile, "Sister Catherine, you shouldn’t speak recklessly. That’s akin to plotting a coup."
"If His Highness Augustus heard this, he would be displeased."
"What’s there to be afraid of?" Catherine scoffed dismissively. "Let him hear it; what can he do to me? I’ve been fed up with that old man for a long time."
"Speaking of which, didn’t that old man place a True Eye in your boudoir? Our previous failure might even have something to do with him..."
"I’d say, just find a way to take the papal throne from Augustus. You become the Pope yourself."
"Don’t worry, whatever you do, we your sisters will support you; after all, it’s for resurrecting Jie Luo," Catherine pounded on her chest and clamored.
"Besides, your position as a Holy Daughter isn’t very secure either."
"You’re still the Holy Daughter, yet Augustus just had Sherry, the backup Holy Daughter, forcefully inserted into the Hero Team. It’s clear he wants Sherry to replace you. Can you tolerate such a thing?"
Stirring trouble, fanning the flames!
"Moreover, there’s Angelica. I heard that Augustus has recently been in touch with Angelica and has already begun restoring her status as a nun of the Holy Court..."
"If she’s regaining her nun status now, isn’t that a prelude to being consecrated as a Holy Daughter? By then, where will there be a place for you in the Holy Court?"
Rose Vesper’s eyes flickered rapidly; she sensed a severe crisis.
To usurp or not to usurp?
Once this thought surfaced in her mind, it became utterly uncontrollable.
She needed to find a way to pull Augustus down from that position. If she couldn’t, she would just be waiting for Augustus to pull her down.
