Chapter 196: Best Friends

Chapter 196: Best Friends

Every single person you’d ever know in the entire Werewolf territory was present.

Luna Ciara, who was the co-host of the part represented Moon Howler’s pack.

Luna Tessa, along with her people represented Crimson Moon’s pack

Alpha Joseph and Luna Luan, along with their people represented Shadow Slayer’s pack.

Everyone who were able to make it arrived from Blood Moon’s pack, Alpha Cardin’s pack along with Aunt Stacey.

Aunt Marcy arrived with Royce and people from Dark Risers’s pack.

Lizzy arrived with Liliana and Raiden, representing Crescent Moon’s pack with their people.

Luna Angela arrived with Pamela and her people, prancing in all her mighty, fake ardor, representing Ruby Stone’s pack with her husband, Alpha Henry.

Alpha Kris who had returned the day before arrived with his people, representing Silver Pack.

Everyone was lively, and children were kept at a particular corner, because If they mixed up with the crowd, they might get lost.

There was a levated platform, and on a lined table with several chairs on it, sat all the elders and shamans representing all the packs, and sitting along with them, was the oldest Alpha In the werewolf current existence, Alpha Joseph.

They were making small talk while people have begun gathering, standing before the levated platform. They were all excited, impatiently waiting for their ’Heroes’, who had taken a risky journey to an unknown land to protect their existence.

Just beside the levated platform, before you began climbing up, John was ordering some Omegas to set up another long table at the end, meant for the rest of the Alphas and Lunas.

Liliana ran up to him.

"I just finished making sure all the kids were safely in their corner. Drinks and snacks would arrive soon."

"Okay Great. How many drinks are... " John started to say when Alpha Kris, A.K.A, his father strode towards them.

"Alpha Kris." Liliana acknowledged, but she almost broke a sweat when she noticed the tense atmosphere between the two men as they silently gazed at each other.

"You’re Alpha Koan’s cousin, aren’t you?" Alpha Kris turned to her, his sharp eyes berrating her with curiosity.

"Y- Yes Alpha."

"You’ve been quite close to my son during the entire event planning. I’ve been watching you two," His eyes narrowed at John next. "You do realize she’s Alpha Koan’s cousin? She’s related to one of the most ferocious Alpha ever is."

John turned irritated.

"Dad... She’s already married. You shouldn’t just assume things like that."

Alpha Kris’s brows rose before he dipped a hand into his pocket, his diamond encrusted wristwatch glinting under the sunlight.

"My apologies." He turned to Liliana who waved it off with a slight red face before he glared at John. "You should blame yourself that I thought you were adding her on another list of your escapades."

"Dad... I’m busy." He spoke through clenched teeth.

"Of course you are," He inclined his head to the crowd. "You do realize that there are over a thousand members of the werewolf territory here. An easy way for a rogue to blend in and cause a ruckus without being noticed. Ever thought of positioning pack warriors around the crowd, especially at the kids’ corner?"

John’s eyes slightly widened in realization before he mumbled.

"I didn’t think of that."

"Well, iif Jephthah wasn’t too busy, he would have remembered." Alpha Kris coldly uttered before walking off while John stared hard at his back before glancing away.

Liliana bit her lower lip, feeling a bit awkward for standing in between them during their little verbal argument, yet feeling a lot bad for John.

Why hadn’t his father seen he has been working hard? He was literally the planner of this party. Was she missing something here?

Talia just woke up, her hair adorning her beautiful face, her eyes huge and sleepy. She was just stretching, still in bed when the door suddenly burst open, and she snapped her head up to see Cardin staring at her, standing at the door with a smile on his face.

"Cardin." Talia sighed, hiding a smile as she pulled the blankets further up to cover her legs.

"Come on. Breakfast in bed." He leaned down, dropping the tray, before sitting next to it.

"You didn’t have to." She said with half closed eyes.

"Talia... don’t be like this. It’s like old times, remember?"

"Most of the time I’m the one barging into your room with breakfast since you were too lazy to get your a*s up early in the morning."

Cardin laughed, leaning down to cut his steak while she stabbed her fork through hers.

"At least I let you have some."

"It was one time," She looked and sounded so cute since her voice was muffled by the food in her mouth. "Most of the time I got you breakfast in bed, you made me watch you while you ate it all."

Cardin chuckled while she just shook her head with a smile, leaning down to eat.

"I’ve missed this." He said, his gaze not leaving her face till she glanced up. They locked eyes before she glanced down.

"What’s there to miss? It’s not like we’ve stopped joking around like this."

"We have. It hasn’t been the same between us since... "

She glanced up again.

"Jephthah?"

Cardin suddenly leaned in and cupped her cheek, pulling her close, their lips almost a hair’s breath apart as his gaze fell on them.

"You don’t realize just how much I love you, Talia," She struggled out of his hold but he increased his grip. "How much I’m willing to sacrifice for you. Jephthah has nothing."

Talia gasped at the sudden closeness before pulling away.

Pah!

Cardin glanced away for a second, his hand still on the burning sensation stinging in his cheek before he turned to Talia who stood there, chest rising and falling as she glared at him.

"How dare you?" He suddenly yanked her wrist and pulled her up to her knees before pulling her forward, causing her chest to crash against his. "How dare you hit your Alpha?"

His aura caused her head to bow to the ground such that her chin was caressing her chest as she did.

He pulled back and glared at her, but he froze on seeing her shoulders tremble as she whispered.

"I didn’t hit the Alpha of Blood Moon’s pack," She raised her head, and he could see how her tears had made her eyes glassy. "I hit my best friend because he was behaving like a jerk." With that she climbed up the bed and shoved him hard.

"Talia." He reached out to hold her, his voice pleading and soft, and but she had already gone into the bathroom. "Talia I’m sorry."

No reply.

He got close to the bathroom door and knocked on it. Once. Twice. Several times.

"Talia... let’s talk okay? Look, I’m sorry."

No reply.

"You just don’t know how difficult it is ..

how hurtful it is to love someone who loves someone else already. What am I supposed to do?"

There was silence for a full minute, before the door finally opened and right before him was Talia, staring at him with a small frown on her face.

"Remember when we were little, you had a bloody nose from rescuing me from those bullies in highschool? Do you remember what we promised each other?"

"To always stand by each other and support each other." He told her without missing a beat.

That was the first time they had actually met. Talia was usually the centre of attraction for bullying because of her hair and huge eyes, but the last straw was when three boys tried to gang up on her, and she was all alone, vunerable and defenseless. Not until he came. Cardin. The Alpha’s son who was usually so reserved and considered snobbish even.

He had rescued her and ended up with a bloody nose, but it was all worth it for her safety, and for the start of a beautiful friendship.

"And I’ve always stood by you, haven’t I?" She asked.

"Yes you have." He replied in a hoarse, hurt voice.

"And I’ve always supported you in whatever decision you made, haven’t I Cardin?"

"You have Talia."

"Then why can’t you support me for the life I’ve chosen with Jephthah... just this once."

"I really do want to," He looked away. "But it’s not easy."

"You will find love Cardin. You’ll find someone who will love you the way you want to be loved," She shook her head sadly. "But that person is not me."

She leaned in close and grabbed his hand, enfolding it in her small ones.

"I’m sorry." She had a sincere look of hurt and genuine sympathy. "You don’t deserve this, but then again, you’re my best friend. You should support me, instead of always fighting with Jephthah."

Cardin managed a chuckled.

"Jephthah huh?"

"He’s sweet and nice if you get to know him. And I want my boyfriend and best friend to get along. Okay?"

Cardin sighed before smiling at her, his lips pursed together.

"I’ll try."

Brittany suddenly poked her head inside.

"Whenever you guys are ready, we’re about leaving." She disappeared once she said so.

"Oh sh*t, I haven’t had a bath." With that, she starts heading for the bathroom while Cardin stared after her with a small smile.
