Chapter 190: Do you love her?

Chapter 190: Do you love her?

(Music recommendation: Hurts So Good by Astrid S)

There was a loud, abrupt knock at the door, forcing the couple out of their deep sleep after a few seconds.

"Sh*t." Koan swore as he knocked his hand over the coffee brown colored bedside table in a bid to get up. He turned to Nancy whose brows were furrowing at the sound of the persistent knock at the door.

Leaning over with a guilty expression, he pressed his lips against her neck before moving it to kiss her lips. Nancy moaned softly as she kissed him back before her eyes fluttered open.

"Could you check who’s at the door, Babe." He kissed the lobe of her ear before kissing the side of her neck again, reaching out to cup her waist.

Nancy sighed, mumbling an ’Alright’ before getting up and heading for the door. Koan flashed her an appreciative smile as he fell back on the pillows to sleep, clearly tired.

The slight frown on Nancy’s face disappeared on seeing Talia at the door with folded arms.

"Talia?"

Talia sighed.

"Where’s Koan?"

Cardin and Hakura were the last to arrive, but they were right on time to see the others standing at the bottom of a small valley. Standing atop the valley was Naomi, carefully listening to something Acella was telling her while Axle stood beside her.

".... imagine the true form of a Kitsune fox while merging your internal energy with the energy around you.. ." Hakura clearly heard Acella say from far before she spoke up.

"What’s going on? Do y’all realize how early it is?"

"Naomi’s going to finally change into her true form." Brittany said, the excitement in the tone of her voice unable to be concealed.

"Really?" Even Cardin was surprised.

"I’m guessing her elemental powers would be fire since she’s a dragon princess, but I could be wrong." Barton said.

"Or half-wrong. Since she’s royalty, she might have two." Hakura pointed out.

Everyone stared up in awe as Naomi sighed heavily before turning down to smile at them, glancing away to begin the procedure.

"Shouldn’t her mate be present to witness her turn into her true form?" Hakura blinked, an innocent expression on her face as she asked.

"He’ll be here soon." Someone suddenly said and they all turn to see Talia and Nancy approaching them.

"Where’s Koan?" Barton asked, referring to the two of them.

"With Daniel." Talia replied.

"You think they’d fight?" Nancy asked, worriedly biting her bottom lip.

Hakura’s eyes grew wide with shock and interest.

What happened?

"Daniel open the door or I’m barging right in." Koan knocked for the nth time and when it looked like he wasn’t going to open the door, he pushed it open, grunting when he discovered that he had probably put a chair against the door to hold it down.

Tsk.

However, when he got inside, he sees Daniel sitting on the ground, head laying back on the door, one knee drawn up with an arm lying on it.

His eyes were closed.

Koan felt all the accumulated anger fade away when he saw him in such a pathetic state.

He sighed, shutting the door. When the door shut close, Daniel’s eyes suddenly flickered open.

"You should have just left me here."

Koan stretched out his hand and as Daniel took it reluctantly, he dragged him up.

"You think I’d give a damn if you wanted to jump right off a cliff and kill yourself." He yanked Daniel up and the young man’s breath hitched up in his throat on seeing the dark gaze in Koan’s gaze. Those eyes reminded him of how strict his father was with him when he was little, and at that moment, he didn’t see Koan as the grumpy Alpha he was scared of, Koan was like a fatherly figure he looked up to.

Koan led him to window, and the two stared out. Daniel’s room was on the topest floor of the building, so from their spots, they could see the tip of a high valley, and on that valley, they could see three familiar figures.

Koan glanced to the side, seeing the look of awe, admiration and yet anger in his eyes as he stared at Naomi. He turned to stare out as well.

"Naomi’s about to change into her true form today, and she wanted her mate to witness her first time doing it," Daniel’s breath ceased once more on hearing his words. What? Was that why she was in his room? "Why do you think she wanted only you?" Koan asked.

Daniel put on the nonchalant facade he was used to showing others.

"To rub it in?"

Kevin sighed inwardly before Koan roughly nudged him with his elbow.

Daniel rubbed his arm.

"I don’t know... because I’m her mate?"

"Why didn’t she call me at first. I’m her brother." Koan turned and Daniel met with his eyes which reeked of anger. "Why didn’t she call anyone else?"

"I don’t know. You tell me, Koan."

Koan fully turned to him and abruptly pointed a finger to Daniel’s chest.

"I think you should ask yourself that question. Maybe you’ll figure it out."

There was a lost look in Daniel’s eyes before he spoke up.

"Talia told me that brittany told her what happened between you two. So she told me everything."

"So you know." Daniel swallowed. "Why are you taking her side then?"

"In this case, I’m actually on your side." Koan announced and Daniel’s head snapped up to stare at him.

"Then why... "

"She faked her own death for 12 years and left you miserable all these while. I understand how you feel, I understood if you hate her and want her to feel the same way," Koan stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder. "But it’s pointless doing this Daniel. You two need to sit down and talk this out. From what Talia said, you two were really close as kids."

"More than close. Naomi was my everything."

Koan paused, seeing the emotions that swirled in his eyes as he said that.

"You love her."

"I don’t know." Daniel murmured.

"You think I know a single thing about love?" Koan chuckled bitterly as he leaned back. "I don’t Daniel. I act like I know everything, but I don’t know a f**king thing about love, but looking into your eyes right now, I see my father... I remember the way he looked at my mother, and I can’t get out that image of how much he loved her, all the love, care he could ever muster just clouded up in his eyes like a blue mist, and I hoped I’d look at a woman like that when I grew. I wanted what my father had. But when he died, I didn’t... I just wanted to be alone. But I tell you Daniel," He placed his hands on his two shoulders this time and squeezed it hard. "If you have a mate, the last thing you’d want to do is to hurt him/her, and I learnt that the hard way. I don’t want the same to happen to you."

Daniel stiffened in his hold, and the two men found themselves tearing up; their eyes reflecting a pool of tears from each person’s eyes.

"Now tell me. Do you love Naomi?"

Daniel’s head fell as he stared at his feet.

"I’m talking about Naomi Campbell.... I’m talking about Nana, I’m talking about Fiona... I’m talking about the Omega you knew her to be, I’m talking about the princess of Foxtune, I’m talking about the Kitsune, I’m talking about my sister. I’m talking about all of her, Daniel. Do you love her?"

Daniel’s head rose, and in his eyes were like a molten lava of fire glowing in them as he replied with all the sincerity he could muster.

"More than anything in the world."

Koan nodded slightly, something gleaming in his eyes as he backed away once more.

"That’s all I’ve wanted to hear. Now get your a*s out there and make things right with her."

Daniel grinned before heading for the door barefooted. Just as he grabbed the door, he turned back to Koan.

"Are you coming?"

"I’m right behind you." Koan replied with a small smile.

Daniel made to leave again, but he paused before turning once more.

"Thank you brother-in-law."

Koan frowned, about to reprimand him for using that term again, but he had already left, stiffling a chuckle.

As Koan turned back to the window, the wind tussling his already disheveled hair, a smile replaced the frown on his face, and his blue eyes turned a faint dark gold color as his grip on the window pane tightened.

Right behind him was a white, almost glowing spirit floating slightly off the ground. She was drop-dead gorgeous. Infact, words like ethereal and beautiful weren’t enough to describe her other-worldly beauty, yet she was not even noticed by him.

But the similar expressions on their faces showed that they could feel each other’s prescence in the room.

"I miss you." Koan whispered, closing his eyes and letting the tears drop down his cheeks.

"Koan... " The spirit whispered, trying to touch him, but of course he couldn’t hear her and like other times, her hand went right through his shoulders.

She looked out the window, sighing, her lifeless eyes holding some sort of emotion in them as she stared at her daughter, bearing all her physical features, standing up there on the valley, about to transform.

"I miss you two so much... more than you can ever imagine."
