Chapter 83: Gladys Volunteers for Alien Childcare

Chapter 83: Gladys Volunteers for Alien Childcare

"I know you thought I was some Nelly Queen on a power trip, but I’m just a Genman in love with my human." The whole office stood up, clapped, and cheered. "I know you want to tell everybody, but the way things still are in today’s society—because of stocks, stock prices, company mergers—let’s just make this a family affair between us. I know it’ll get out eventually, but for right now this is inner office gossip."

Carter’s expression grew more serious. "But I can tell you a very important thing. We took on a gigantic—and I mean giant—endeavor. You know the pod home systems and the temporary housing quarters have been moving out of the storage yards. We placed twelve hundred fifty of the temporary housing quarters on the property of the ranch. We have started to move Genmen that were being abused by greedy corporate raiders."

He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. "We have two hundred seventy Genmen twenty-one to twenty-seven years of age. We have twenty-two fifty young Genmen sixteen to twenty years of age. There are twenty-two hundred Genmen children nine to eleven years of age, and twenty-two hundred Genmen newborn to four years of age. The E.C. Hawthorne ranch is twenty-five thousand acres and is located next door to the Z1 ranch, which is five thousand acres and has been serving the Genman community for the last twenty years under the ownership of Zack Spinelli, who is one of our stockholders and new board member."

"This program we have taken on is very important to me. These corporate pigs were using these children in a breeding program. All of the young Genmen sixteen to twenty are in various stages of gestation. The two hundred seventy older gentlemen were X program members and being used as breeding stock. The younger ones don’t know a mother or father—we are slowly reintegrating them into society. They are all being schooled, they are all being retrained that they are free, nobody owns them, nobody will hurt them ever again." Carter’s voice softened. "If you haven’t seen us for a while, this is why. And the babies—they’re just babies. All they want is to be loved. If you have a free weekend and you wish to come out and visit the ranches to meet the children, believe me, you’re always welcome as Hawthorne Enterprises employees and family."

One lady stood up. "If you need foster families to help out, just ask and we’re always here."

"Gladys, that’s very nice, and I do invite you to come out, but these are Genmen children—purebloods. They grow at a different rate than normal human children. It takes three human years for a Genman child to go from birth to transition, which is right at nineteen/twenty years of age human. So you could actually see the child growing overnight. But still, human interaction will definitely help them thrive."

Carter continued his explanation. "They have broken ground on a library, museum, and Genmen Cultural Center at the Z1 ranch. Zack has meticulously preserved historical data salvaged from the crash—actual pieces of the ship. It will be a place where humans and Genmen can actually see what it was like on that ship, and Genmen society on the home world. The ship, which was not a cargo ship at all as said by the government, was in fact a slave transport ship."

His voice grew more intense. "The males were the commodity. The ruling class were females. They chose a suitable male to breed, and when there was a positive conception, they neutered the male so he could not reproduce with any other female. Slaves were chosen by size to be bred to each other by the use of a chemical to make them compliant, so they could produce the strongest, most virile of males. I have been pouring through the old data files. Zack has finally broken through the firewall thanks to his grandson Ty, who is a computer wizard. He’s been able to merge files, open locked files, access records and videos of history of the Genman society."

"Is it a glorious past? No, it’s not. But it is our past as Genmen, and we must remember where we came from, what we went through before we were blessed by crashing here. We only wish to live here in harmony with our human brethren."

Carter’s tone became more philosophical. "There are people that will never trust us, and there are Genmen that will never trust humans because they consider us two different species. There’s a great lady that we have with us for as long as she is alive—Dr. Liz Corday. She has been indispensable in helping us find out who we were and who we are. Because of Dr. Corday, a caring human who is the reason that I’m able to stand here and talk to you as an equal—because if we don’t get along and learn how to live with each other, we are always going to be fighting. I’m no better than anyone else, nobody else is better than me. We’re equal."

Carter had many of the office personnel come up to him and hug him after his little speech. He thanked them all. He got back onto the elevator with the security staff and went back to the corporate offices.

Helen and Ed were going over files left and right when Carter walked into the board room. "Ed, Zack’s on the board, correct? Because if not, he should be. After all, he does own twenty-five percent of the shares."

Helen smiled. "Number one on the list, sir."

"Oh, Helen, by the way, before I forget—you’re invited to the baby celebration."

Ed walked over to Carter and placed his hand on Carter’s stomach. "Yep, he’s going to be a fighter. With you as a dad and me as a father, he doesn’t have a choice."

Two days later, Elton, Ray, and Raymond were on their way to the city as guests of Ed and Carter for Elton’s appointment with a back and spine specialist. Elton was terrified—he’d never been to the human city. He’d heard stories, but he didn’t know what to expect. Raymond tried to assure him that they were just humans, nothing unusual, nothing special, but this still didn’t help Elton.

Ed pulled up in front of the Medical Center. Raymond helped Elton out of the transport as he held little Ray. Carter came around. "Okay, young man, inside this building your future awaits you. Let the doctors help you any way that they can. Your son depends upon that."
