Chapter 48: Paternal Paranoia
Chapter 48: Paternal Paranoia
Tony looked at Alec in amazement and shock. He was going to be a father now, something that he never thought could’ve happened in a million years. He knew that Genmen were special but he never knew how special they were.
Alec smiled. "Shall we tell mom she has a little one on the way, and she needs to hang around to hold him? Or do you want me to do it later—explain it to her, the process of Genkarnak?"
Tony thought about it for a minute. "I’ll let you explain later, but now let’s shower and clean up. We’ve made a bit of a mess here." Maybe they’d have some good clean fun in there. It had been a long time since he’d been somewhere so warm and nice, and he wanted to stay there as much as possible.
Tony moved gently and removed himself from Alec. He helped him from the bed and they went to the shower for a very long, hot, sexy shower.
---
Liz noticed a change in Tony when she saw him that morning. She thought to herself that he was happy—happier than she’d seen him in years, and it was all thanks to Alec and the baby.
Tony kissed his wife very passionately. "I’ll see you later. I’m going to the office—I may be there all day, and I just might come home early. Who knows, we may even go out for a meal, the three of us."
---
Rosie the operator could see Tony beaming as he got off the elevator. The man was transformed. "Looks like someone is happy with his life," she told Tony with a smile.
Tony returned her smile. "Yep, I am the happiest man there ever was, and thank you for noticing. You need a raise."
Tony walked into the main area and called everyone’s attention. "Yesterday was good—we did great. We rescued 47 from an underground pre-transition breeding program run by the corporate ranches."
He continued, his tone growing more serious. "We’re going to take what we know and what we found out from this raid and compare it with information that we have. Our mission is to shut these bastards down once and for all. We are going to install new software tracking systems and monitoring systems here in the office. Everyone will be signing a new disclosure agreement, and the entire staff in the building will be put on notice and monitored. This is very important to me, and this will take place. If you think that this is an invasion of privacy, you couldn’t be further from the truth."
"Looks like we might have a leak, and I intend to plug that leak, but it will take everyone’s cooperation." Tony’s voice carried a weight that made everyone listen intently. "Everyone will be receiving new phones courtesy of the agency—this is for business use only. Anyone caught with a private phone or a burner phone in this building, on agency property, or on their person will be locked up until we can investigate."
"Agent Torres and Agent Hanz will be here later to brief everyone. What we discovered there was a nightmare, and it will be stopped." His eyes swept the room. "If anyone has any doubt of their loyalty to the GBI, that’s okay—pick up your items and leave. You won’t be discriminated against, but you will no longer have a job with any of us. Make up your mind: the agency, or your friends and people that pay you under the table. Because you do not want to challenge me on this one—you will lose big time, and I can promise you it would be a long time before you see the light of day."
Everyone in the office was shocked at Tony’s stern announcement. They had never seen him like this before. He was always "Tony, no big deal." This was all business, and he meant business. Everyone looked at everyone else, wondering who was on the take, who was playing both sides of the fence. They felt sorry for whoever it was, but not that sorry.
---
Tony stopped by the receptionist desk once again, took a seat on the edge, and motioned for Rosie to come near. He spoke to her in a gentle, low voice. "I’m going to need a baby blanket and a pair of your cute baby booties for my son when he arrives in 3½ months."
Tony smiled, got up, and walked away. Rosie was in shock. She had no idea what Tony was talking about—Liz was sick, she couldn’t have children. She had known Liz for years, had worked around the office when Liz was working in microbiology and genetics. The lady was a brilliant genius scientist. Tony and a baby? She needed to see Liz. She had to get the skinny on this one because it was going to be a whopper.
---
Tony took the elevator to his office and continued to make phone calls. The entire time he was there, he was getting ready to bring corporate down. This time there would be no loose ends, there would be no undergrounds, there would be nothing but satisfaction when they were brought down. If it brought down the entire industry of nectar, so be it—this would be the end.
---
Zach’s phone rang in his office. Lex was very calm when he spoke. "Okay, great uncle Eric is here, and we are going to have us one real quick delivery. Randy, on the other hand, is about to lose his mind. Not every day you become a teenage father—you might want to come over here and help him out."
Zach started to laugh and hung up the phone, heading for the door. If his sister could only see her son now—he was going to be a father to a baby hybrid.
---
Lex was doing just fine. He had Eric in the birthing chair, and Eric was doing just fine pushing and grunting, moaning and groaning, trying to push the baby out. The soon-to-be father was having sympathy pains—every time Eric groaned, Randy moaned. For every pain Eric had, Randy had one twice as bad.
Zach just couldn’t keep from laughing. "Boy, keep on and you’re going to have a little mess in your drawers," he teased Randy.
