Chapter 51: Bath With Me?

Chapter 51: Bath With Me?

Xavier exhaled again, shaking his head slightly before returning to his usual posture.

The moment of weakness passed.

Riven remained asleep, oblivious to the fact that, for just a few seconds, he had shaken something loose in the otherwise unshakable Xavier.

And for a long, long time after that, Xavier did not let his eyes linger on him again.

The scent of food roused Riven from his sleep, his nose twitching instinctively as the delicious aroma filled the air. His stomach grumbled loudly, betraying his hunger before he even had the chance to fully wake up. His eyelids fluttered open, and for a moment, he lay there, trying to gauge his surroundings.

Morning? Maybe. He couldn’t be sure. There were no windows, no natural light to indicate the time of day. The only thing that hinted at the passing of time was the warm meal placed nearby, they truly knew how to treat a prisoner right.

His gaze flickered across the room, his attention landing on the ever-silent bodyguard stationed near his cell. The man stood with his back straight, his presence unwavering, just as he had the night before. It was almost inhuman how still he was, like a statue carved out of flesh and stone.

Riven’s eyes traced the man’s form, taking in the slight streaks of white running through his otherwise dark hair. A man with experience. Strong, composed, disciplined. A silver fox indeed.

He licked his lips, both at the thought and at the delicious scent teasing his senses.

Riven cleared his throat, his voice coming out softer than intended.

"Is that for me?" he asked, blinking up at the man with the most pitiful, pleading expression he could muster.

Xavier finally turned around, his dark eyes settling on Riven’s face. There was no change in his expression, no indication that he had any intention of speaking. But then, without a word, he slid the tray of food toward Riven, pushing it just within reach.

Riven stared at the tray. Then back at Xavier. Then back at the tray.

Oh.

He exhaled through his nose and pressed his lips into a thin line. This felt oddly humiliating—being silently handed food like he was some well-fed pet.

This man might as well ruffle his hair and call him a good boy.

Still, he pouted as he reached for the tray, grumbling under his breath. But no matter how much he wanted to be annoyed at the impersonal treatment, his hunger outweighed his dissatisfaction.

He picked up the fork and took his first bite—

Oh.

His ears twitched in delight.

The food was good.

Really good.

The warm, rich flavors melted on his tongue, far better than what he expected from a prisoner’s meal. He hummed in approval, his tail flicking happily behind him as he eagerly dug in.

For a moment, he allowed himself to enjoy the meal in silence. But then his eyes flickered toward his ever-watchful bodyguard, and a smirk tugged at his lips.

What was he doing? Standing there all stiff and motionless? Did this man never relax?

"Are you going to stand there all day, big guy?" Riven mused, not bothering to hide the amusement in his voice. "Or do you actually sit down when I’m not looking?"

Silence.

Not even a twitch of a response.

Riven chewed slowly, watching him. "You know, I could get used to this. Having a strong, silent type watching over me, making sure I’m safe and well-fed. What’s next? A nice warm bath? Maybe a bedtime story?"

Still, nothing. "How about you give me the bath, so you know I won’t run away." Naughty thoughts were swirling in Riven’s mind. Oh, think of the possibilities.

Nothing.

Riven’s tail swished as he took another bite, chewing thoughtfully.

"...You know, if I weren’t tied up in a cell right now, I’d think you were into me."

This time, he swore he saw the tiniest flicker of something in Xavier’s eyes.

A reaction.

Small. Barely noticeable. But it was there.

Riven grinned, leaning forward slightly. "Oh? Did that one get to you?"

Xavier’s expression remained blank. Unmoved.

But Riven was getting curious.

Just how long could this man go without breaking? Without reacting to him?

He had been stoic since the moment Riven had arrived. His posture never wavered, his presence always the same. It was almost unnatural. Did he ever sleep? Did he ever rest?

Riven leaned back against the bed, folding his arms as he studied him.

"Alright, since you refuse to talk, let’s play a game," he announced, smirking. "I’m going to see how many times I can get you to react today. A blink. A twitch. A shift in posture. Anything counts. You’re allowed to stop me, of course... if you actually talk."

Silence.

Riven’s smirk widened.

Oh, this was going to be fun.

So, his day passed like this—eating and teasing his hot, muscular, incredibly enduring bodyguard.

He threw compliments, shameless flirtations, exaggerated sighs of admiration. He listed all the wonderful things he found attractive about Xavier—his sharp jawline, his broad shoulders, his undeniable aura of dominance.

Nothing.

He tried getting closer, leaning toward the bars, pouting as pathetically as he could, complaining about how lonely he was, how it was so cruel of Xavier to leave him all alone in such a big, luxurious prison.

Still nothing.

He even pretended to fall over at one point, just to see if Xavier would react.

Xavier did move—only to catch him before he could actually hurt himself—but as soon as Riven was steady, the man immediately stepped back, his posture resuming its usual rigidness.

Unbelievable.

At some point, Riven lay on his bed dramatically, staring at the ceiling, defeated.

"Are you even real?" he muttered.

Xavier, of course, said nothing.

Riven sighed, turning on his side, watching him. "You’re a tough one, I’ll give you that. But don’t think I’m giving up just yet."

He closed his eyes, exhaling slowly.

No matter how much Riven teased him, pushed him, tried to get under his skin...

He never left.

And as sleep slowly took over once more, Riven decided one thing.

Tomorrow, he was going to make Xavier crack.
