Chapter 202: Not Gay!
Chapter 202: Not Gay!
Leon stared at Riven as if the words had physically slapped him.
"Lover?" he repeated, blinking hard. "You... You have a lover? As in... A lover?"
Riven tilted his head, as if trying to gauge how many more repetitions Leon would need before it truly sank in. "Yes. Soren is my lover," he replied, calm as the spring breeze ruffling the grass around them.
"But—you’re Ronan’s mate!" Leon sputtered. "You’re bonded to him. The wolf alpha. Everyone knows that!"
Riven shrugged, still lounging in the grass like he hadn’t just upended Leon’s concept of relationships. "So?"
Leon gaped. "So?! How can you have a lover if you already have a mate?! That doesn’t even make sense!"
Riven sat up slowly, brushing a stray petal from his sleeve before meeting Leon’s wide eyes with a smirk. "Well, I’m in love with two men," he said simply. "What could I do?"
Considering how polygamy and polyandry were banned and considered immoral, Leon had a hard time wrapping his head around Riven’s relationship status.
Leon made a strangled sound, somewhere between a groan and a gasp. "You say that like it’s normal."
"To me, it is normal."
"Does Ronan know?!"
"Of course he does," Riven said cheerfully. "We don’t keep secrets. Ronan’s territorial, sure, but he knows I belong to him. He also knows I love Soren. And Soren? He’s eccentric and possessive, but he knows that Ronan and I are unfortunately a package deal." Riven shrugged.
"Wait so- Ronan and he-" Leon did not complete the horrific thought.
"Oh gods no, never. They hate each other, but they love me~" Riven clarified, putting his hands on his cheeks, trying to act cute.
Leon covered his face with his hands. "What is this insane relationship?"
Riven’s voice turned teasing. "Jealous?"
"No!" Leon snapped, but the heat in his cheeks said otherwise.
Riven scooted closer, grin widening. "Well, if it’s bothering you so much, I can make it easy. You want to join the harem?"
Leon’s head snapped up so fast it nearly gave him whiplash. "WHAT?!"
"Come on, we could use a third. Or fourth. There’s a cute bunny who is part of the harem, but he just doesn’t know it yet." Riven said casually.
This wolf was- was scaring him!
Leon stumbled to his feet. "You’re insane. Completely, irreversibly insane."
Riven flopped back onto the grass, laughing. "I’m kidding... Mostly. Unless you’re interested?"
Leon didn’t answer. He couldn’t.
Instead, he turned away, jaw tense and heart thudding in his chest. He didn’t want to think about Riven and Soren—that unhinged man with his haunted mansion and the rumours about the basement full of cursed artefacts.
He didn’t want to imagine how someone like him had ended up being Riven’s lover. Or how Ronan—the wolf clan’s alpha, could allow his mate to have a lover of his own!
What kind of relationship was that?
His thoughts spiralled, sinking deeper.
He’d heard of the wolves and their strange customs. Of how, in the wolf clans, alphas sometimes took male omegas as lovers.
But that was a wolf thing.
Among the other clans—lion, panther, even bunnies—that sort of bond was unheard of. Unnatural, some would say.
Leon had always been told that mates were sacred. Singular. Exclusive.
So how could Riven, who was mated to someone as powerful and proud as Ronan, also take a lover? How did he even have the nerve?
And how did Soren agree to it?
That man was erratic, brilliant, dangerous, and not the type to be second to anyone.
And that man just... welcomed Riven into his bed?
It made Leon’s head spin.
There was nothing about the situation that made sense.
And yet... Riven spoke about it with such casual certainty. No shame. No hesitation. Like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Leon’s thoughts tangled, forming knots he couldn’t untie.
Why did it bother him so much?
It wasn’t jealousy. Of course not. He didn’t care who Riven loved. He was just... confused. Maybe a little appalled.
Maybe.
He clenched his fists.
Behind him, Riven stretched and yawned. "You’re being awfully quiet, Leo."
"Don’t call me that," Leon muttered, not turning around.
Riven propped himself on one elbow. "I’m just saying, you act like I broke the laws of nature or something. But love doesn’t follow rules. And neither do I."
"You sure you’re not just greedy?" Leon shot back.
"Maybe," Riven said easily. "But love isn’t a pie, you know. Giving some to Soren doesn’t mean I love Ronan less. And it wouldn’t mean I’d love you less either. If you were interested."
Leon’s jaw clenched. "I’m not."
Riven laughed again, that maddening sound that always seemed to echo louder than it should. "You protest too much."
Leon finally turned around, eyes narrowed. "You’re messing with me."
"Of course I am," Riven said brightly. "But only because it’s fun."
Leon stared at him, trying to make sense of everything. Riven’s easy smile, his unshakable confidence, the way he seemed to throw open doors Leon hadn’t even dared to look at. He felt like he was standing at the edge of something—dangerous, chaotic, maybe even tempting.
Wait what- NO! He was not gay!
"I still think it’s insane," he said after a long pause.
"That’s fine," Riven replied, flopping back down. "But it’s my kind of insane. And it works for me."
Leon didn’t respond. He sat back down beside him, this time more slowly.
They didn’t speak for a while after that. Just sat in the grass, letting the quiet settle between them.
The thoughts did not leave his mind, though. Leon was imagining it, how would it be between two... No, three men! Imagining the Alpha, Riven, and Soren together on one bed made him shiver. No, he should start small.
Just... Him on the bed, with some man, could he imagine that? He shook his head, trying to shake away the thought. But clearly that did not work. The image of him and a strange man on the bed doing- well, the image was not gone, it grew stronger and for some reason, he was imagining fluffy black wolf ears.
