Chapter 340

2-in-1 chapter:

---------------------------

Looking at Ishida Ryūken bowing deeply, Kaelith grinned.

“Is that so... however, words alone carry little weight.”

“If you want people to believe you, you’ll need to show some sincerity.”

At these words, Ishida Ryūken raised his head in slight surprise, glancing at Kaelith.

*Sincerity? What kind of sincerity?*

In just two seconds, countless thoughts flashed through his mind.

Ryūken frowned slightly, testing cautiously: “There is a maid in my household with decent looks and good Quincy aptitude. If milord is willing...”

Staring at Ryūken, Kaelith couldn’t help but feel as though he’d just been punched by Komamura.

“Silence! What kind of person do you take me, Kaelith Yurei, for?!”

“I am the disciple of the Captain-Commander, the most elegant swordsman in Seireitei—how could I engage in such lowly deeds!”

Ryūken quickly lowered his head in apology.

Kaelith paused for two seconds.

Before he could regret it, he waved his hand and said:

“As atonement, go buy me Hokkaido milk ice cream. Two cones.”

Ryūken was a bit stunned.

*What kind of punishment is this?*

Seeing Kaelith wasn’t joking, he couldn’t help but ask:

“Kaelith-sama, about the Dangai matter...?”

“Hmm? The Dangai? Didn’t you say it had nothing to do with you.”

“...You believed that just like that?”

“Of course. I can read minds—I can tell when someone’s lying.”

Under Ryūken’s astonished gaze, Kaelith pointed to his eyes and grinned.

At this, Ryūken’s heart sped up for a few beats.

Thankfully, he had never attempted to deceive Kaelith.

Otherwise, the Ishida family would have already... The thought left him both fearful and relieved.

Using Hirenkyaku, he quickly returned with the milk ice cream.

Just in case, he’d spent a fortune to buy the whole ice cream machine and even brought the ice cream master along, setting them up on the company’s first floor. If Kaelith wanted more, he could get it immediately.

Eating the ice cream Ryūken brought, Kaelith showed a satisfied expression.

“Ah... living is worth it for this one bite!”

“......”

Ryūken remained silent.

He really wanted to comment that Kaelith sounded exactly like a drunk old man—but he held it in.

As he ate, Kaelith suddenly thought of something.

“By the way, where’s Isshin? Isn’t he staying here?”

“That Shinigami...”

Ryūken frowned slightly, adjusting his glasses.

He didn’t much like Shiba Isshin.

Not because he was a Shinigami. Ever since pledging loyalty to Kaelith, Ryūken had long discarded the Quincy pride that would lead to ruin.

His dislike of Isshin was mostly due to the man’s personality. He seemed straightforward, but in reality, was quite calculating.

As Kaelith put it—like a wolf in sheep’s clothing..

Ryūken didn’t fear such people but preferred not to deal with them. Thus, he took a completely hands-off approach toward Isshin.

If he needed food, he got food. Lodging, he got lodging. Money, he got money.

But no contact. No deep conversations. So, he actually had little idea what Isshin had been doing lately.

Kaelith felt a bit disappointed.

After finishing the ice cream, he stood up to leave. But just then, a strange fluctuation swept over. Kaelith looked in the direction of the disturbance and vanished in a flash step.

Ryūken tried to follow.

But after a few seconds chasing Kaelith’s flash step path, he lost track of him entirely.

For a moment, Ryūken felt complicated.

His father had once said that his talent would have made him stand out even in the Quincy Empire, worthy of becoming a Sternritter.

Yet before Kaelith, his talent seemed like child’s play.

*Just how strong had this man become?*

……

Swish!

Kaelith appeared in midair.

He looked down.

*Karakura Town Station.

Crowds of people flowed by. Among them, many other presences mingled.

Humanoid figures.

They seemed to wear white robes with no visible features. Atop their heads, a long red horn—or maybe a hat—the abstract shape made it hard to tell. Humans couldn’t see or touch them. The two groups passed through each other like illusions.

Kaelith frowned.

These things looked familiar, but he couldn’t place them. Judging by their Reiatsu, they should be human souls. But on closer sensing, something was different.

Crack!!

With the sound of air splitting, a figure appeared beside him.

“Kaelith-sama.”

A handsome, cold-faced man knelt on one knee, bowing respectfully.

Looking at Ulquiorra, Kaelith clicked his tongue.

Ulquiorra blinked, puzzled.

*Kaelith-sama... seems displeased with me?*

Had he done something wrong?

He lowered his head. “Forgive me, Kaelith-sama. I failed to greet you immediately upon your arrival in the World of the Living.”

Kaelith stared at him for a few seconds.

Then lifted his chin.

“Don’t get too cocky. My ad campaign will definitely surpass yours!”

“?”

Ulquiorra tilted his head, confused.

As they spoke, a shout rang out in the distance:

“Call forth the Twilight—Mirokumaru!!”

They turned toward the voice.

In midair not far away, a young female Shinigami raised her Zanpakutō. With a flash of light, the blade transformed into a four-ringed khakkhara.

(Note: A khakkhara, sometimes referred to in English as a pewter staff)

As she swung it, a fierce whirlwind surged forth. She controlled the storm skillfully, targeting the white souls without harming the bystanders.

Under her command, the white figures were swiftly swept away and vanished.

Wiping imaginary sweat from her brow, the girl smiled brightly.

“Woohoo, all done!”

Kaelith let out a small noise of recognition.

The moment he saw the girl’s face, he realized who she was.

A movie character.

Without a doubt, this was the protagonist from the Bleach: Memories of Nobody film. Back when he watched that movie, he’d even gotten a little emotional.

As he recognized the girl, Kaelith also understood the source of the mysterious space bubbles in the Dangai. If he recalled correctly, a certain family had committed crimes in Soul Society and been exiled to the Dangai.

They should have perished, but somehow survived.

Not only that, they had gained the ability to control the wandering souls within the Dangai. Using that power, they planned to merge the Human World and Soul Society and destroy the latter.

The expanding space bubble was undoubtedly their secret weapon.

Though the details were fuzzy, that was the gist of the plot. But what he remembered most wasn’t the convoluted main story.

It was the girl’s final self-sacrifice—and her disappearance.

Wait... wasn’t this supposed to happen after Ichigo was born?

Could it be that the timeline had shifted due to his butterfly effect?

No—that didn’t make sense.

Hinamori and the others had just entered the Academy back in Soul Society. Even his interference couldn’t have changed their ages. He’d been a student at Shin’ō Academy when they were already born.

No way my butterfly wings could flap them back into the womb...

It must be some other factor prompting these people to act early.

Ugh... my head’s starting to itch. Am I about to grow an extra brain?

This kind of thing was best left to Sōsuke to ponder.

Then Kaelith’s eyes brightened.

Speaking of brains, Ishida Ryūken is pretty clever too. Maybe I should recruit him into my think tank?

He grew intrigued by the idea.

Not far away, the girl, Senna, also glanced curiously at Kaelith.

Those two had been watching without lifting a finger. What were they planning?

Hmph. Maybe I should mess with them a little.

She prepared to move.

But just as she did, the Shinigami’s figure vanished from her sight.

So fast!

She quickly scanned the area, searching for Kaelith’s movement.

Then, from above, a voice called out:

“Hoho, young lady, looking for me?”

“!!”

Senna startled and leapt back.

When she saw Kaelith, her eye twitched.

He was hanging upside down in midair, their heads nearly touching.

The thought of their previous positioning made her shiver slightly.

“You scared me, you idiot!”

Kaelith slowly rotated his body upright like a clock hand.

Then he smiled mysteriously.

“Confused young lady, I am no fool.”

“I am the deity here to assist you.”

Senna couldn’t help but laugh.

“Deity? What are you, a grade schooler?”

Kaelith solemnly raised a finger to the sky.

“Ignorant mortals often think that way.”

“But it’s fine. A Deity forgives such naivety.”

“To show you my greatness, I shall reveal some things.”

“First, your name... Senna, correct?”

Her smile froze.

She looked at him in surprise, unsure how he knew that.

Kaelith continued:

“You have many lingering concerns. Often, you feel memories swirl together, unable to tell truth from illusion.”

Senna’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“And you lack a past. You appeared here without reason, unable to recall recent events.”

“H-How do you...”

She looked at him as if seeing a monster.

Kaelith chuckled.

“As I said, I am a Deity. Nothing escapes my sight.”

He pointed at Ulquiorra.

“See him? He too was once lost like you.”

“But since becoming my follower, his life has grown ever richer—he can even control his own bodily functions now.”

“?”

Senna blinked.

What did confusion have to do with... that?

Ulquiorra took a deep breath.

Though they were far apart, he clearly heard every word.

Once again... punched by Komamura in spirit.

Senna looked up at the man before her.

Just as she was about to speak, a shout rang out:

“Aniki!! Aniki!!”

“I’m here! Are you alright, aniki?!”

A man in Shinigami robes and a white haori came running over.

Senna frowned, then her eyes widened in realization.

That guy’s a Shinigami... and a captain!

“And you’re a Shinigami too!”

“You liar! You said you were a Deity. You must’ve read my mission records to learn my name!”

She glared and backed away.

At that moment, Shiba Isshin arrived.

Seeing Senna’s guarded expression, then looking at Kaelith, he scratched his head.

“Kaelith-aniki, what’s going on?”

Kaelith silently looked at him.

Then, to Isshin’s shock, he threw a punch.

Isshin didn’t even have time to scream before he was sent flying into the distance, leaving only a series of shockwave rings in the air.

Ulquiorra: “...”

Why do fools never learn to keep quiet?

Lowering his fist, Kaelith rolled his neck and turned to Senna.

“Young lady, I didn’t lie.”

“I am a Shinigami—and Shinigami are deities to mortals. Calling myself a Deity is perfectly accurate.”

“Hmph. Shameless!”

Senna stuck out her tongue.

Kaelith decided to be gentle and make his request politely.

He adjusted his collar and spoke seriously:

“I wish to study your body. Will you cooperate?”

“?”

Senna’s eyes widened in alarm.

*What was this dangerous statement?!*

She instinctively covered her chest.

“No way! Don’t even think about it!”

Kaelith nodded.

“I see. Negotiations have broken down?”

“In that case, no choice.”

He grinned like a cheerful demon.

Before Senna’s shocked gaze, he ripped off his shirt and tossed it aside.

“Time for... government-approved violence!!”
