Chapter 152: Resolve

"Regardless of their reasons, I’ve decided to kill him, Grandma Qing!" Chen Zi spoke with venom in his voice.

It was clear this was something he had thought about for a long time.

Grandma Qing remained silent for a moment before speaking in a pained voice. "You’re going to die, Chen Zi!"

Even Chen Mei—who had always seemed to dislike Chen Zi—suddenly shouted, "Are you crazy? You really want to throw your life away after everything?"

Chen Zi, hearing their words, looked at both of them and smiled faintly.

"Thank you for your concerns, but I’ve already made my decision.

All my life, I’ve regretted not being able to protect her. My rage and anger have simmered and boiled all this time.

Now that I know the culprit is right in front of me, how can you expect me to sit still and do nothing?"

Chen Mei’s eyes flashed as she responded furiously, "Do you really think this is what Auntie Chen Xiao would’ve wanted? For you to throw away your life in the name of revenge? If she were still alive, she’d have smacked you silly!"

Chen Zi smiled, and yet even though he tried his best to remain positive, the pain in his eyes was unmistakable.

"Even living is a painful existence for me. You know that more than anyone, Chen Mei."

Chen Mei, seeing the expression on his face, was about to retort once more, but Grandma Qing—who had also been trying to dissuade him—suddenly raised her arm, stopping Chen Mei from speaking.

She stared straight at Chen Zi and asked softly,

"Are you sure about this, Chen Zi?"

Grandma Qing waited for his response with a calm expression, yet if one looked closely, they would see her eyes trembling slightly.

It was clear she cared deeply about every member of the Chen Clan, and watching a member of the younger generation throw his life away over something like this was something she simply couldn’t accept.

Chen Zi’s eyes flashed with determination as he nodded.

"Yes, Grandma Qing. The only reason I caught up with you all tonight is because I didn’t want to leave the Chen Clan without asking for your blessing first."

Chen Mei, who had been previously stopped by Grandma Qing, was once again about to speak her mind before a single sharp look from her brought her to a halt. Grandma Qing then turned back toward Chen Zi.

"Tell me your plans. If your plans don’t have any chance of succeeding, then I won’t let you go!"

Chen Zi, seeing the serious look in Grandma Qing’s eyes, understood immediately—if he truly had no plan and was just going to barge inside the Church of Heaven in Brightheaven City, she would do everything in her power to stop him. He remained silent for a few moments before finally speaking.

"I’ll tell you my plans via divine sense, Grandma Qing."

Grandma Qing’s eyes flashed as she subtly glanced in Chen Mei’s direction, giving her a sharp look, before turning her gaze back to Chen Zi and nodding her head.

"Alright, I’ll give you a chance. Tell me what you’re planning to do."

Lin Feng, who had been silently listening to their conversation the entire time, had a few thoughts running through his mind.

Chen Zi is planning to kill High Priest Dorian!

Although, if this person was able to command multiple Foundation Establishment cultivators to pursue someone with a Broken Soul, then he must either be someone with incredibly high status within the Church of Heaven—and therefore heavily protected—or...

He was an incredibly powerful individual himself, strong enough to treat Foundation Establishment cultivators like mere foot soldiers!

Although Lin Feng didn’t know the exact cultivation level required to achieve such a feat, he had a general hunch.

Probably something at least on the level of Grandma Qing or the Grand Elder of the Wei Clan.

Lin Feng shivered at the thought.

It was clear that someone that powerful was not someone he wanted to offend at his current level.

Even a single wrong glance could spell disaster for him.

I hope Uncle Chen Zi will be fine. I also owe him a debt of gratitude, Lin Feng thought to himself, his gaze fixed on the telepathic conversation happening between Grandma Qing and Chen Zi.

Their expressions were calm on the surface, but Lin Feng could tell from the flickering of Grandma Qing’s brows and the tightening of Chen Zi’s jaw that their exchange was intense.

Divine sense conversations were silent to outsiders, but the weight behind them could still be felt.

Seconds passed. Then minutes. Chen Mei stood to the side, her arms crossed and her eyes filled with frustration and worry.

She kept glancing between the two, clearly dying to know what was being said but wise enough not to interrupt.

Lin Feng, meanwhile, stood perfectly still, not daring to make a sound.

He knew this wasn’t a matter for someone like him to interfere in—at least, not yet.

Uncle Chen Zi... if you really go through with this, it won’t just be dangerous—it’ll be a suicide mission. Lin Feng clenched his fists at his sides.

His mind briefly drifted back to the first time he met Chen Zi. Technically speaking, Chen Zi had been an enemy at the time, serving as Chen Yang’s Dao Protector.

But after he saved both him and Chen Mei, Lin Feng’s impression of him completely changed.

From that moment on, he couldn’t bring himself to wish anything bad upon him—especially now, as he glanced to the side and saw the flickering expression on Chen Mei’s face.

She’s really worried...

Suddenly, the air grew heavier. Grandma Qing’s divine sense snapped back, and her gaze grew even sharper.

She let out a slow breath as her eyes met Chen Zi’s. "You... really plan to use that method?"

Chen Zi gave a single, firm nod.

Grandma Qing closed her eyes. Lin Feng noticed her hands trembling slightly.

"If you fail," she said, voice low and heavy, "you will die without even leaving behind a complete corpse."

Chen Zi didn’t flinch. "Then I will die with no regrets."

For a long moment, silence hung in the air like a blade.

Then, finally, Grandma Qing nodded.

"I won’t stop you. But you’d better succeed, Chen Zi. If you die... your death will not be in vain, instead it will be another burden that the people you leave behind will carry!"
