Chapter 164: Burning Icicles
Chapter 164: Burning Icicles
They reached the city where they had met cultivators for the first time. Ming Yue and Yi Lin were already conversing like they were lost sisters or something.
They were sitting on the wolf while Jiang Hao just flew behind them.
Now he understood how talkative his senior sister was; she only kept quiet most of the time because of him.
Yi Lin belonged to a sect called Eternal Frost Peak Sect. He didn’t know about it, but by his senior sister’s expression, he understood that she had enough knowledge about it.
He also came to know why Lunarshade Wolves were hunted extensively, their beast cores were the main ingredient in one of the pills used to break through to the Soul Sea Realm.
Any ingredients that were main components of breakthrough pills were definitely far more valuable than ordinary resources. It was but a given fact, especially in lower worlds where breaking through cultivation realms was considered harder due to the density of qi present in nature.
The city seemed a little emptier than before. Most of the cultivators who didn’t find any opportunities would have already left, so it wasn’t surprising.
They weren’t going to enter the city either; none of them were interested in any inheritances here. Even Yi Lin had only come here for the main inheritances.
So they just flew above the city, moving towards the next one. If they felt like stopping, then they would stop, or else they would keep moving till they found something good or reached the main safe zone city.
"Junior brother, you can come and sit on Hunlang. I don’t think she would mind."
When he heard that, he looked towards Hunlang, who also looked at him after hearing that.
When Jiang Hao’s eyes met hers, she trembled internally. She got reminded of the deadly situation she was just in a moment ago.
Jiang Hao could easily perceive that Hunlang was afraid of him, so it wouldn’t be good to sit on her. Not to mention, if he went there, then Ming Yue would definitely involve him in their conversations, which didn’t sound appealing to him.
"It’s fine, senior sister. I prefer flying."
Ming Yue looked at him with an amused expression. This time she wasn’t going to let him go easily. She was still feeling a pinch about him stopping her from taking part in the previous fight.
No doubt it would have been dangerous, but it wasn’t like she wouldn’t have been able to protect herself. All she needed to do was encase herself in Nether Ice. If she had done that, then even Crimson Lightning wouldn’t have been able to hurt her, and since she could control her ice with her spiritual qi, she could have moved easily too.
The only issue would have been that those bastards wouldn’t have entered the array, since she wouldn’t have let herself be wounded to that point.
So, with Jiang Hao being the bait, it had given them the best result. But feeling sour about not being able to take part in killing those bastards just because she was forced to sit out was natural, especially when she was so eager to kill them.
She also knew that he had done it to protect her, so she couldn’t even get properly angry at him. The only way to get back at him was to tease him as much as she wanted.
This would release all the pent-up frustration in her heart, and it would be fun to see him get flustered too.
When Jiang Hao saw her amused smile, he had a bad feeling that she was definitely not going to let him off the hook that easily.
So instead of waiting for her to speak something that would make him uncomfortable, he decided to just teleport away, but just as he was about to do that, he sensed someone’s gaze on him.
He didn’t react but opened his spirit sense. They were flying at 400 meters above the ground. It was the perfect distance to stay out of someone’s spirit range.
But if someone was keeping an eye on the sky, then they could definitely see them.
They had just crossed the city, and since there were still cultivators present there, it was a given that some would set traps for others who would come later.
This might be the natural way how dangers in inheritance sites actually worked. If you wanted to move to the next safe zone, then you had to go through these kinds of situations.
Only those who were truly confident or had a good group were able to move safely through these conditions unharmed, while others would only be asking for death.
This thing was definitely happening from the 1st level, so by now, those who had made it here had already proved their worth.
But that didn’t mean they were guaranteed to survive until the main safe zone. After all, those who were lying these traps were also ones who had made it here alive.
Jiang Hao stopped, and when Ming Yue saw that, she gestured Hunlang to stop too. Yi Lin also looked at Jiang Hao.
"What is it, junior brother? Are you trying to run away from me?"
Jiang Hao shook his head, indicating that wasn’t the case. Although he was just about to teleport away to avoid her, he wouldn’t admit it.
He pointed to the ground. No doubt the hidden cultivators were also able to see him pointing towards them, but he didn’t care.
Yi Lin didn’t understand what he was trying to say, but Ming Yue understood immediately. She opened her spirit sense to the maximum and easily saw through sixteen hiding cultivators on different trees beneath them.
"Well, I was itching to kill someone. How good of them to wait for me here so that I can fulfil my desire."
Yi Lin finally understood what was going on. She immediately looked down but couldn’t see anything, nor was her spirit sense good enough to see that far. She had a longer range than 100 meters, but it didn’t even reach 200 meters, so it was impossible for her to sense something which was about 400 meters away.
But since Ming Yue was able to tell the number of cultivators hidden in the trees, that meant her spirit sense could easily cross 400 meters. She was shocked by this revelation.
Hunlang was a soul-type spirit beast, but even then, she had only 300 meters of range. This meant Ming Yue’s soul was stronger than even Hunlang. It was quite shocking indeed.
Also, the first one to discover these cultivators was Jiang Hao. That meant his spirit sense range wasn’t lower than Ming Yue’s. But the most stunning part was, how did he know there were cultivators here specifically?
Activating spirit sense consumed spiritual qi, so he wouldn’t be using his spirit sense all the time... or would he?
If your spiritual qi was drained to the limit, then you would feel an intense headache along with dizziness, making it hard to control yourself, much less fly like him.
So how was he able to sense them? It was really quite a mystery, one she couldn’t ask him about directly.
If it were Ming Yue, even then she wouldn’t have asked much, much less Jiang Hao, whom she hadn’t talked to a single time after their initial greetings.
Asking about someone’s secrets in the cultivation world was considered rude, and it was for good reason. Who knows when your own friends and relatives might become your enemies?
This was a very common occurrence in the world, for even the meagrest of benefits, people could kill you.
That’s why in the cultivation world... "the less you say, the longer you live" was taught to everyone by their elders.
---
"Was he pointing at us?"
"What do you mean by us? Who in their right mind would stop suddenly and point towards the ground like an idiot without any specific reason? There’s no treasure or resources nearby anyway."
"But how the hell did he find us? We can’t be visible, right?"
"That I don’t know, you moron, but he definitely found us... wait a second, are those icicles?"
The others also looked towards the icicles Ming Yue had just created. There were exactly sixteen. This time, she had enhanced her icicles with soul flame.
The icicles looked quite mesmerising while burning with soul flame. It was quite an unusual but beautiful sight.
"Hey, aren’t they exactly sixteen?"
This sentence sent a chill through every cultivator present.
When Jiang Hao had pointed towards them, they had thought that he had found one or two cultivators. But after seeing the number of burning icicles, it looked like that wasn’t the case. Not to mention, these icicles didn’t seem to be created by that guy, it was definitely the woman sitting on the back of the beast who was also looking down right now.
"I don’t know how they found out about us, but what’s the point of attacking us from so far? Would she even be able to hit us? We can easily dodge them from this distance. It’s not like she can control the trajectory of these icicles from that much distance, right?"
"True. Maybe she’s trying to intimidate us by showing us the exact number of icicles so that we back off and don’t do anything foolish."
"Fine. Since they’re capable enough to find us, let them leave. Many more will come later anyway. Not to mention, that burning ice looks a little terrifying."
"Yeah.... What kind of cultivation technique is it? How can fire calmly burn on ice?"
"Who knows? There are a lot of techniques in this world that we know nothing about."
