Chapter 128: A Date With My Cute Shinso Vampire V
Priscilla was on her fourth sorbet.
Adam stared, halfway between awestruck and vaguely alarmed, as she polished off another dainty porcelain cup like it was nothing.
Not a smudge on her lips, not a single drop wasted. Even in her gluttony she remained elegance during her meal time.
"Are you... okay?"
Adam asked cautiously, leaning across the table.
"Hm... Why do you ask boy?"
Priscilla asked.
To which Adam replied saying as such.
"That’s four. That’s four Sorbet Priscilla."
She didn’t bother answering right away. Her spoon gleamed, twirling a perfect curl of blood-orange sorbet with a casual flourish before she let it melt delicately on her tongue.
She closed her eyes. A soft hum of satisfaction slipped out.
Adam gawked.
"I’m pretty sure that sorbet was meant for at least six people to share you know."
"And?"
She said, not even looking at him.
"Do I look like a creature bound by mortal serving sizes?"
"No."
He admitted.
"You look like a sugar addict in denial."
She huffed, finally deigning to glance at him.
"I’m limiting myself to five."
"That’s sounds more like a goal than a limit."
"Mm."
She took another bite, ignoring Adam at this point.
Adam leaned back in the booth, lips twitching. As the scent of chilled vanilla and fruit syrup mingled with aged wood and the gentle crackle of background jazz.
Around them, a few couples sat whispering, and a pair of uniformed students were comparing badges from an arcade machine near the back.
But all of that faded into wallpaper. His attention never really left her.
Even now, with four sorbets deep and a fifth apparently queued, Priscilla still looked composed. Regal, even. Adam could tell she was really enjoying herself, as she get tiny feet shake back and forth from under the table.
And despite her mostly strict and prideful ways, for this moment she was smiling.
Just faintly.
And more in that way someone might, when their guard slipped without them noticing.
He didn’t want to ruin it. But there was a question he’d been holding for a while now, curiosity threading through him since long before this date ever started.
And seeing her like this, sorbet spoon dangling between her fingers like a quill, he figured, maybe she would actually answer it now.
"Hey... Priscilla."
She didn’t look up.
"Yes?"
"Were you... born a vampire? Or turned into one?"
That did get her attention.
Her spoon paused mid-motion.
Her eyes lifted, slow and searching, fixing on him with a neutral expression that gave away nothing at first.
No irritation. No flash of red. Just... stillness as she was taken slightly off guard by the question.
Adam tried to ease the tension with a shrug.
"I always assumed you were born one. And I also learn you have a brother as well, so I kind of figured that was the case right?"
She didn’t respond immediately.
Instead, she rested the spoon in her almost empty cup and folded her hands over her lap. Her eyes drifted toward the window again, but this time, she wasn’t looking at anything outside.
Just remembering a time long forgotten by the world.
"No."
She said softly.
"I wasn’t always a vampire."
Adam blinked.
"Oh."
That... wasn’t what he expected.
He sat up straighter.
"You’re serious?"
She nodded, slow.
"I was born human. A very long time ago."
His brain scrambled to reorganize every assumption he had ever had about her. In her original storyline, the one he remembered from the game, she had been vampire from the start. Born to it as natrual force of nature rather than a created being.
But this?
This was perfect example of a retcon. And a big one at that.
He hadn’t considered she might have been someone else before all that.
"...So."
He said, voice quiet now,.
"Who turned you?"
Priscilla’s fingers tightened slightly over her gloves. She didn’t look at him, but remained honest nonetheless, clearly trying to play it cool despite her nervousness.
"The founder of the Tepes bloodline."
She said, her voice cool but flat.
"Vlada Tepes, and one the tree original true ancestors."
Adam’s eyes widened. That name didn’t exist in any game he was familiar with.
So she must be an original charcther to this world.
"Vlada... Tepes?"
"Like a female dracula."
He repeated, clearly signalling Priscilla to continue.
And continue she did.
Her gaze flicked to him, a sharp glint in her eyes.
"No. Not that silly folkloric bastardization. Vlada was older, smarter, stronger, and much, much more crueler."
She spoke with a hint of defensiveness, but Adam could feel it, beneath the sharp edge of her tone, there was unease... and hate. Not just hate, though. Tangled up in it was gratitude, just as strong. Regret, too. Like she couldn’t decide which part of her wanted to speak louder.
But that aside, Adam try to move the conversation as he commented saying.
"I see, so she was the one who turned you?"
"Yes."
Priscilla looked down at her gloves.
"I was not turned by seduction or bitten in the moonlight if that what you are thinking"
Priscilla explained half jokingly for the must part.
As she soon continue her story.
"Nor was I was not offered a choice in the matter either. I was...
She pause for a moment as she force the words out.
"...I was selected according to her, she said I was special, and how I had promised to become something much greater, and bold and behold, just looked at me today...heheh... I have truly elevated to a higher existence status even more so than her."
"And yet, I’ve lost more than I gained."
Her voice was quiet, but sharp.
"Years spent as a specimen... years being poked, prodded, and pushed past the edge. Years spent being hunted down, fighting, killing, and bleeding. All for the sake of survival. All for the sake of revenge...hehehe, how annoying it feels... now that I am thinking about it."
She glanced skyward, her smile tired and bitter.
"But it all paid off, I suppose. Power aside my story up until now has given me a reputation among the strong so horrifying the only person I think I crazy enough to make a direct move against me is the Cain family... Or the royal family rule by the Vampire King."
Priscilla said as she went back eating, as she said while swallowing.
"But sometimes, I wonder... could it have been different?"
Hearing all of this, and seeing Priscilla pour out his emotions to him Adam but for a moment went still.
As he replied while saying.
"Sheeesh big sis, I never knew you went through such a horrible experience."
Priscilla however just shrug it off, as she replied back saying.
"Don’t worry about it, the past is the past, and beside I wasn’t alone either."
She added, almost as an afterthought.
"There were other girls. Most were discarded. Some didn’t survive the transformation. A few... Well something are better left unsaid but death would have been a far more forgiving fate for them, that is for sure."
She stopped. Her jaw clenched slightly.
Adam didn’t push, rather her sympathize with her
"...That’s horrible."
Priscilla’s smile returned, but it was thin, cold.
"It is what it is boy."
He looked at her, really looked at her, and for a second, she didn’t seem like the smug, tsundere aristocrat with a superiority complex and a soft spot for ice cream.
She looked like someone who had survived something she shouldn’t have.
"...How old are you, then?"
He asked quietly.
She gave him a look of annoyance.
"It’s not polite to ask a lady her age."
"Come on."
He said with a half-smile.
"You just told me you were part of a really old vampiric family, it got me curious and beside, I think we’ve passed the polite stage."
She didn’t smile, but the corners of her lips twitched. She let out a breath, long and slow.
"It’s hard to say."
She admitted.
"After I was turned, I spent most of my life in the Monster World. Time... works differently there. Years don’t march forward like they do here."
"But you remember when you were turned?"
"Yes."
Adam leaned forward.
"When was it?"
She rested her elbow on the table, cheek against her knuckles.
"452."
He blinked.
"452...? Like... four-five-two?"
She nodded.
His brain processed the math, backtracking across empires and lost centuries, until the implication hit.
"Holy shit!"
"Hehehe... A valid reaction I suppose."
"Wait so you were born in the human world?"
Priscilla just nodded.
"Yap, I spent the first 32 years of my life in the human world, before I was turned at the age of 31, one month before my birthday, and two months before I was forcefully taken to the monster world."
"Wow... So we’re exactly did you live."
"Hmmm... At the time it was called Camelot, but today it is called Holy Empire. In the modern age it is know as the main city of all religious institution."
