Chapter 1278: Drinking Blood
A bloodthirsty cat ghost from ancient Egypt — what could it be?
A cat demon? An ancient god? Or the demon pet of Ramses II?
Inside the compartment, Hermione was feeding Crookshanks, who purred with satisfaction.
Evan and Elaine looked at each other, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere was weird.
He was thinking about the cat. He had clearly heard the cat’s meow just now when he looked at the bottle of dragon’s blood.
“Do you want to drink it?” Elaine asked suddenly, raising her arm to wipe the corner of her mouth.
“No, why ask such a weird question?” said Evan.
“Because you’ve been staring at it,” she said, shaking the dragon blood bottle in her hand, “If you want, I’ll give it to you.”
Evan stared at Elaine for a while and thought he could give it a try.
Sitting there and wondering would not solve anything. The cat refused to show up and there was nothing he could do.But if he liked to drink dragon blood, he would definitely be lured out again, and he must catch him this time.
From what he could tell, the cat had been locked in the last cage of the Ruins of Amun Ra together with the ancient Egyptian gods. He had survived for at least thousands of years. He was an ancient and powerful existence on the same level as the gods.
Although he had helped Evan before, everything about him was shrouded in mystery and unknowns.
Ramses II hadn’t told him that activating the weapon in the cage would lead to him being haunted by a cat’s ghost.
Evan had no information at all. He didn’t even know why he was haunting him or what his intentions were.
Anyway, after leaving the Ruins of Amun Ra, he’d been hearing the occasional meow and experiencing other strange occurrences.
For example, he would dream of returning to ancient Egypt thousands of years ago.
In those dreams, everything was very real. Evan remembered every person and every object he met very clearly, as vividly as if he had really lived there.
It would be great to learn about ancient Egyptian civilization and the magic of those ancient times in this way.
But in Evan’s dreams, he seemed to be just a statue, placed in the center of a magnificent divine sculpture. He could not go anywhere and could only watch countless believers worshiping at his feet. He could not control his body in the dream to move or speak, and could only feel passively.
Rather than saying this was a dream, it would be more accurate to say it was a memory.
At the end of each dream, Evan could always hear a cat’s meow.
That was the time when Evan had just returned to England from Egypt — his weakest moment.
He believed that he was under the spiritual influence of a certain god imprisoned in the Ruins of Amun Ra. This was a very common thing in soul magic. Since Ramses II and Dumbledore both thought it was okay, there shouldn’t be any problem.
Sure enough, as his body recovered, the strange dreams appeared less and less frequently.
In the end, they disappeared and never appeared again, and Evan didn’t think much about it.
Afterward, he set out for the Burrow, where Hedwig treated him strangely.
Evan had heard the cat’s meow once again, but because the sound was very faint and fleeting, and there was nothing physically abnormal, he ignored it.
However, what happened just now scared him.
No matter why the cat was haunting Evan, no matter where he was hiding, he was now able to affect Evan’s senses and make him crave dragon blood. It was really terrible. He didn’t want to be controlled by an ancient Egyptian creature or ghost for no reason. He was going to investigate what was going on.
“Okay, just one sip,” he said, taking the dragon’s blood from Elaine.
Under her gaze, Evan tilted his head back and took a sip. It tasted fishy, pungent and unpalatable.
He started coughing violently. The cat did not appear, but he really drank a mouthful of dragon blood…
For normal people, it was totally unacceptable.
“Evan, what are you doing?” said Hermione in surprise, turning to look at him.
“No, nothing,” He spat out the blood, “just a joke.”
“If you want to become a vampire, I can give you my First Embrace anytime,” said Elaine, showing her two fangs. “Just let me bite you and you can drink blood. It tastes pretty good.”
“Thank you, I don’t need it for now,” Evan pushed her head away.
He stuffed Hermione’s sandwich into his mouth to get rid of the bloody taste.
“You should eat less, this sandwich is too dry,” said Hermione, giving Evan a curious glance before changing the topic. “To be fair, Professor Slughorn’s food is much better than the trolley snacks. If only those annoying people weren’t around, it would be perfect. I hope Harry, Neville, and Ginny can hold on.”
“This is just the beginning. He’s selecting members for his Slug Club,” said Evan absentmindedly.
The ghost of the cat seemed to have noticed that he’d been discovered and refused to come out.
If he didn’t come out, Evan had no way of dealing with him, nor any idea where he was hiding.
It seemed that he’d need to have a word with Dumbledore about this…
Time passed slowly, and by the afternoon, they went to patrol the train compartments again.
Ron was sitting in a compartment with Lavender, Parvati, Romilda and others. He was bragging about his adventures with Evan, Harry and the others. He had said these things many times, but they were always a hit.
Especially after this summer vacation, students clearly realized the significance of Voldemort’s resurrection.
While they were afraid, they all wanted to know more information.
Evan, Harry and others who had access to this information became the targets of their questioning.
Hermione called Ron out and asked him to go with them on duty and not stay behind.
If this continued, he would surely get carried away and tell all the secrets he knew.
By the time they reached Hogwarts, everyone would know everything.
“I just realized how popular I am,” said Ron. “You may not imagine — they —”
“It’s not that you’re popular, those people just want to know more information from you,” said Hermione contemptuously. “Voldemort’s return and recent events have scared them, and they want to know more about it.”
“Well, you’re probably right. I thought I was popular,” Ron thought for a moment and said with some disappointment. “They have indeed been talking to me about Evan’s true strength and whether Harry is really the ‘Chosen One’. Didn’t you go to Slughorn’s for lunch? What did he want to know?”
“Probably the same sort of thing.”
“We three made an excuse and left, told him we still had patrol duty.”
“We actually do need to patrol. We should check out the Slytherin compartment. Hope they’re not causing any trouble,” said Hermione.
