Chapter 1262: Murderer’s Bar
In the end, Evan had not entered the Underground World.
He had brought a lot of Polyjuice Potion with him, so there was no need to go to the Underground World to buy it. After Delphi transformed into Hermione, they went directly back to the Ministry of Magic and sneaked into the Minister’s office to find the Time-Turner…
Although he did not enter the Underground World last time, Evan learned from Delphi how to get in.
It was said that in the basement of a house at the end of Knockturn Alley, there was a passage leading into the underground.
Just like entering Diagon Alley from the Leaky Cauldron, tapping a brick on the basement wall with your wand would open the entrance to the lower level.
However, since this information was from eighteen years in the future, Evan wasn’t sure if it would still work now.
The four of them walked cautiously along the street, heading deeper into Knockturn Alley.
The group did not walk very fast, and Harry and Ron looked around from time to time, looking for any sign of Malfoy.
Evan lay in Hermione’s arms, also looking around vigilantly.
In fact, Knockturn Alley had not changed much compared to now, except that it was more dilapidated. Many of the Dark magic shops on both sides of the street had been replaced with stores selling vampire and witchcraft items. What had not changed was the thick dark atmosphere that shrouded this alley.Evan was sure that they looked very suspicious.
Whether it was their clothing, their behavior, or their very presence, it was out of tune with everything in Knockturn Alley.
Thankfully, the Invisibility Cloak kept them hidden, so no one came to cause trouble.
Just like that, five minutes later, the four of them came to the end of Knockturn Alley, where the houses closed in. The house at the end of the alley was a bar, the Murderer’s Bar that Fred had just mentioned, which looked no different from the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley, and was probably built in the same period.
But the atmosphere and surroundings were far worse than at the Leaky Cauldron. The dark doorway revealed nothing of the inside, though a strange, pungent smell, a mix of alcohol and blood, wafted out. The kind of customers who frequented this place was easy to imagine. No wonder Fred and George had come here looking for excitement.
“We’ve reached the end!” said Hermione. “We must have missed Malfoy.”
“Strange, we didn’t see him in any of the shops ahead…” said Harry.
“We should head back; we’ve been gone too long,” said Ron, constantly glancing around.
“Evan, what do you think?” Hermione asked uncertainly.
“Meow!” Evan jumped from Hermione’s arms into a dark gap between two nearby shops.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron exchanged glances and quickly followed, squeezing into the gap.
Inside, Evan’s body rapidly transformed back to his normal form. He said, “Have you heard of Knockturn Alley’s Underground World? There’s a passage to that place inside this bar ahead of us.”
“The Underground World? I remember Lupin said that’s where werewolves gather…”
“Yeah, that’s where werewolves gather,” said Evan, “but the Underground World is not just about werewolves. There are many Dark wizards, thieves, and conmen like Mundungus, as well as creatures like the house-elves we saw in Fred and George’s shop. This is the dark side of the Wizarding world.”
“The Underground World, werewolves’ territory, and Malfoy,” Harry muttered, as if suddenly struck by a thought. He raised his voice, “It has to be! Remember? Malfoy just mentioned Fenrir Greyback. He told Borgin that Greyback is a friend of their family. He must have come to find that werewolf! They’re definitely plotting something together, maybe Voldemort ordered them to do something…”
“What would Voldemort want Malfoy to do?!” Hermione asked back. “With Malfoy’s abilities, what can he do?! Harry, you’re too suspicious. Maybe things are not as complicated as we think.”
Harry shook his head and didn’t answer. He hadn’t thought about what to say yet. He thought again about what Malfoy had done and the smug look on his face when he left the store. The only thing he could be sure of was that something that made Malfoy look so happy was definitely not a good thing.
Now, this matter had something to do with werewolves.
What conspiracy were the smug Malfoy and the werewolf planning?
“Let’s go back. This place is very close to the werewolves territory. It’s too dangerous,” Hermione said finally.
The encounter from a few years ago still haunted her. She had lost count of the times she had nightmares about terrifying werewolves.
“I think Hermione’s right,” Ron rarely agreed with her opinion, staring at the door of the Murderer’s Bar, as if a werewolf would jump out of there in the next second. “Why should we go to find Malfoy? Think about it, he’s only sixteen. You-Know-Who would have to be mad to let him do anything important.”
“There must be something we don’t know about here, Malfoy and the werewolves…” Harry said, he turned and looked at Evan. “I want to take a look at that Underground World, Malfoy must be there.”
“Harry, this so-called Underground World is very big. It’s not like that little Dark magic shop we were just in. If Malfoy really went down there, we might not find him. Besides, it’s very dangerous there,” said Hermione. “Our most important thing right now is not to investigate what Malfoy’s doing, but to ensure your safety.”
“Come on, Hermione, it’s not that dangerous to just take a quick look inside,” said Evan. He was curious about the Underground World as well. Since they were already at the entrance, there was no reason not to go in. “The Underground World isn’t exclusively for werewolves, and it’s not like other people are forbidden from entering. Let’s check it out. If Malfoy really went down there, we’ll definitely run into him and figure out what he’s planning. Of course, the three of you should stick close to me. If anything goes wrong, we’ll Apparate immediately.”
As long as Voldemort wasn’t down there, Evan believed that with his abilities, he could lead them to safety if they needed to escape.
Hermione looked at Evan, pursed her lips, and said nothing more.
Ron, too, kept glancing between the three of them and eventually accepted the decision.
“Alright, so what’s the plan? Sneak in under the Invisibility Cloak?”
“We can just walk in. It’s not like it’s off-limits,” said Evan, taking out four hooded cloaks. “Of course, some necessary protective measures are still needed. We don’t want anyone to see who we are.”
The four of them put on the cloaks, covering their bodies tightly, and walked into the Murderer’s Bar.
Not only in appearance, the interior space of this bar was also similar in size to the Leaky Cauldron.
But the decoration was completely different. The walls were painted a dark red , but the distribution was uneven, like coagulated blood, which looked very unpleasant. Deep blue curtains hung all around the bar, dividing the room into private areas, each with a small table inside.
The decor might have once been intended to evoke mystery, but now it just seemed disgusting. The bar was in a state of terrible disrepair, and the curtains hadn’t been washed in who knows how long. They were covered in dust and had turned almost black, making it impossible to tell their original color. Many of the private booths behind the curtains were filled with hags.
The room was dimly lit, with thick grime covering the windows, making it almost impossible for light from outside to get through.
The floor and the tables were also covered in dust and dirt, as though the place hadn’t been cleaned in centuries…
