Chapter 41: Hungry Boys

The boys sprinted toward the dining area like starving animals, their exhaustion momentarily forgotten at the mere thought of food.

Their legs, which had been shaky from hours of dragging wood and working on the rafts, suddenly found new energy as they raced across the sand.

Some of them were practically shoving each other out of the way, their competitive instincts kicking in even over something as simple as eating first.

By the time they reached the large mat spread out for meals, they were nearly tripping over each other.

The sight that greeted them was nothing short of a miracle — massive bowls of food were waiting for them, steam rising from freshly cooked rice, grilled fish laid out in neat rows, their golden, crispy skin glistening under the firelight.

Leo let out an exaggerated gasp, dramatically clutching his chest. "Oh my God. Is this what being a man gets you? Because if so, I’ll carry a damn forest next time."

The other boys burst out laughing, but no one wasted any time before digging in.

They grabbed generous portions of rice, scooping it into their mouths with their hands, tearing apart the fish like wild animals.

It was simple food — nothing fancy — but to them, after the back-breaking work they had endured, it might as well have been a royal feast.

Oliver groaned in pleasure, leaning back as he chewed. "This is heaven," he mumbled, half to himself. "Actual, real-life heaven."

"Forget rafts, man," another boy spoke between mouthfuls. "I’d build a whole house if we get meals like this every time."

Leo nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, yeah! If they keep feeding us like this, I say we chop down another tree tomorrow. Who’s with me?"

A loud chorus of groans answered him.

"Hell no," one boy muttered. "I’d rather starve."

"My hands are still shaking, dude," another added, holding them up as proof.

Leo shrugged, stuffing another bite of fish into his mouth. "More food for me, then."

Laughter spread among them, the exhaustion from earlier fading into the background as they enjoyed the simple joy of eating together. But not everyone was fully caught up in the celebration.

Lucas sat among them, quieter than usual. He ate, but not as hungrily. His fingers absentmindedly picked at the flaky fish on his plate, his mind somewhere else entirely.

The others were talking, laughing, enjoying themselves without a care in the world. But Lucas... Lucas was thinking.

Or rather, he was planning.

His eyes flickered across the mat, scanning until they landed on her.

Mia.

She was sitting with the other girls a few feet away, engaged in quiet conversation, her eyes warm and her expression soft.

Every now and then, she would laugh at something one of the girls said, and Lucas felt something stir inside him.

But that wasn’t what caught his attention the most.

It was the floating number above her head.

[Lust: 98]

That number had been lingering there ever since their last encounter in his tent, ever since the night they had spent together.

It had been rising gradually, inching toward its peak. She wanted him. That much was obvious.

And if he was going to test out the system’s features, then tonight was the perfect opportunity.

He needed to do the deed.

The thought sent a strange sensation through him — not quite nervousness, but not entirely excitement either.

There was something surreal about seeing lust quantified like this, something that made the whole situation feel less like a natural romance and more like... a game.

But if this was a game, he needed to play it.

He looked at her again.

She still hadn’t noticed him watching.

For a moment, he hesitated.

Was this really something he should do? Testing out the system’s features was one thing, but this was... different. This was real.

It wasn’t just numbers on a screen — it was a person, Mia.

Did he even know what he was doing?

Then, as if she could sense his gaze, Mia turned her head and looked straight at him.

Their eyes met.

And in that moment, Lucas knew — tonight, she would be his.

She smiled at him, her lips curling slightly, almost teasingly. It wasn’t much, just a simple glance shared between them, but it was enough.

Lucas smirked back, a silent message passing between them.

He would make his move tonight.

For now, though, he leaned back and finished the rest of his food.

As the meal wound down, the boys stretched out lazily on the mat, their stomachs full and their energy finally beginning to drain away.

The teachers had disappeared somewhere, probably discussing their next insane plan to work them all to death again.

Leo sighed, rubbing his stomach contentedly. "Man... I could pass out right here."

"Don’t," Oliver muttered. "They’ll make you build a house if they see you lying down."

"Then I’ll die right here."

Lucas chuckled but didn’t join in much after that. He was already lost in thought again.

He stood up, stretching.

"I’ll see you guys later," he said.

Leo blinked up at him. "Where you going?"

"Just for a walk."

Leo gave him a knowing smirk. "Sure you are."

Lucas just rolled his eyes and walked off.

Lucas walked with no particular destination in mind, his hands tucked casually into his pockets.

His steps were slow, unhurried, the distant chatter of the other boys fading as he moved further away.

The afternoon air was cool against his skin, especially now that he was in the shade, the scent of the sea lingering in every breath. The camp was behind him now, but he wasn’t quite sure where he was going.

Maybe he was just killing time.

Maybe he was just looking for an excuse not to think too hard about what he was planning to do tonight.

His foot connected with a small rock on the ground, and without much thought, he kicked it forward. It bounced once, then twice, before skidding across the dirt path — only to hit something.

Or rather, someone.

Lucas blinked, stopping in his tracks.

Standing a few steps ahead of him, illuminated faintly by the sunlight, was Nina.
